So, this is a video that's been requested before, and I've finally made it. Whenever I make a video on Indonesia or Malaysia, I notice some comment, whether it be about where certain things are from, or differences in words and culture..Some are very positive and some are..extremely negative haha. So I've finally sat down with my friends from Indonesia and Malaysia and we're having a discussion. Enjoy :)

To me as a Malaysian, if an Indonesian and a Malaysian are having a conversation, Indonesian can speak in Indonesia language and Malaysian can speak in Malaysia language and we will understand each other just fine.

since I don't see any explanation about the language, I'm gonna explain a little from what I know Bahasa Melayu Malaysia and Bahasa Melayu Indonesia (changed to Bahasa Indonesia since 1928 due to political reason) are the standard varieties of Malay language. Malay itself is an austronesian language spoken throughout southeast asia, from southern Myanmmar (Tanah Sari) southern Thailand (Pattani, Songkhla, Trang, Yala etc) to the Malay Peninsula (known now as west Malaysia or inland Malaysia) and spreading to the east of the archipelago which is Papua (known as Melayu Papua), with a total of speakers for about 300 millions of people. Specifically speaking, Bahasa Melayu Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia are the standard varieties of Melayu Johor-Riau, which is a dialect of Malay in the southern part of Malay Peninsula and eastern part of Sumatra, the language today comes from Melayu Tinggi (High Malay) which a language used in court or by the noble, because Malay itself has 2 types of spoken language, the high language and the bazaar malay (Melayu Pasar) usually spoken by the merchant or commoners. On March 17th, 1824 the Anglo-Dutch Treaty established, separating the Malay World into two, British Malaya (now known as Malaysia) and Dutch East Indies (now known as Indonesia) and from this the language separation began too. Malay in Malaysia got a lot of influence from English while Malay in Indonesia got a lot of influence from dutch as well as other regional languages, mostly Javanese. The Javanese words entered the Malay in Indonesia because at that time the lingua franca of Dutch East Indies is Malay, they need lingua franca because there's 700+ different languages in Indonesia, so that's why the two language evolved into a kinda different language but we need to remember, the difference is only in the casual language, the formal or standard one is remaining the same. Bahasa Indonesia that usually exposed is the dialect of Jakarta, which is different from the standard one, and Bahasa Melayu Malaysia that exposed most is the dialect of KL or Malaccan and also different from the standard one. for example, here's word in Standard Language of Bahasa Indonesia and Melayu Malaysia : Saya memberi makan seekor anjing both of Malaysian and Indonesian Will understand this word because it's written in the standard language. so please, jangan ribut hanya karena masalah bahasa, we're speaking THE SAME LANGUAGE, only in different dialects. Peace✌🏻✨

Batik & Rendang is actually an original Indonesian heritage that has been recognized by UNESCO. Even though Malaysia actually has batik, it was originally from the Javanese tribe, while the Javanese came from Indonesia who migrated from Indonesia to Malaysia. While the Rendang comes from Minangkabau, meanwhile the Minang tribe comes from West Sumatra Province (Padang) and West Sumatra is in Indonesia. Many Indonesian cultures have been determined by UNESCO, you can see on Google. But for the upin ipin animation from Malaysia I like it.

There's no such thing as original Indonesian heritage. There's only original Nusantara heritage. Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei etc are all part of the same cultural sphere that was divided by colonialism. We are originally (and still are) the same people. Saying Batik & Rendang is ONLY Indonesian is the same as saying Hanbok & Kimchi is ONLY North Korean. Look at what happened to Chinese Indonesian! It's not a very pleasant history! I'd say that Malaysia is better in comparison. I'd say that Malays have higher tolerance, at least they allows the Chinese and Indian to preserves their cultures. Even tho the Chinese always complains about unequal treatments! But the fact that Chinese schools are allowed is already a proof of tolerance that Malaysia have. I don't think Malaysia have anything to learn from Indonesia, if anything it's the other way round.

Nah, even tho they don't really watch sinetron, Malaysian in general have a better language adaptive skills. once we recognized Indonesian tone and pronunciation, we can pretty much talk in it at least decently. Malaysian Malay is harder to imitates because of the schwa and stuff.

actually if a Malay person speak formally (like textbook) our pronounciation gonna be same as Indonesian but when we speak our accent heavily influenced by regional dialect making harder for Indonesian speaker to understand us. our main dialect is Johor-Riau dialect, which the speakers are mainly from Johor, Melaka, Selangor & Kuala Lumpur.

@@fragileword6189 because the root for bahasa Indonesia is bahasa Melayu. And bahasa Malaysia and bahasa Indonesia is both variations of bahasa Melayu. In Malaysia we still call it bahasa Melayu though. Bahasa Malaysia is just something for formality. So we never speak or write in bahasa Indonesia, it has always been bahasa Melayu all along. Thats also why we Malaysian understand bahasa Indonesia better than Indonesian understand bahasa Melayu/ Malaysia. Because we speak a modern version of bahasa Melayu but still know the older bahasa Melayu like the one Indonesia uses now before they rename it.
