My Uncle Steven passed away suddenly August 22nd 2023. He will be forever missed and loved-we adored our uncle! We live on a farm and our Uncle would come often through out the year to visit for a few days. (He lived a few states away). He played the guitar and sang often for us kids. Uncle Steven and I would sit under the great pine trees of our woods and write poetry together. We'd take walks under the full moon for inspiration, gaze at the stars with my siblings, laugh and wade in the creek. He and I would talk for hours about Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. He loved LOTR- he is the reason I love the fantasy worlds of Middle Earth and Narnia! When he fell asleep in Jesus, that night I stood outside, looked to the heavens and sang this song for him. Thank you Malinda and Rachel for the most ethereal cover of this song. You both did this beautiful song justice and you have the voice of Angels.

My mom _loved_ the LOTR movies. The extended versions were never not playing in the background at her place, if she wasn't actively watching something else. She adored the closing title to ROTK more than any other, and used to ask me to learn it so I could sing it for her, that she thought my voice would be perfect for it. I always said I would learn it, but it was a hard one and I had other things I was focused on then. And then she died at age 56, just a couple of weeks before the extended release version of ROTK came out, and I never got to sing it for her. I did learn it, though. I spent two weeks listening to it on repeat and crying, until I could make it through the song without dissolving entirely into sobs, and on the first anniversary of her passing, I lit a candle for her and I sang this. I hope she heard me and was as pleased as she always thought she would be with it. I still can't listen to the song without crying, though. Sometimes I can sing through the tears, but they are always there.

Whatever rendition I hear, this song never fails to bring me back to the 12 year old boy sitting next to his dad on opening night of the Return of the King, processing his feelings at the journey he had spent 3 years invested in. I still return to the trilogy quite a lot. Excellent cover!
@Sindrijo26 күн бұрын
Those years were truly special, I feel very lucky to have been 15 by the time the ROTK was in cinemas. Four years earlier I had been gifted a book called "The Hobbit", a year later and I had read all of LOTR, was making my own 'elvish' language and started on The Silmarillion... and then the first movie came out and the adventure began all over again. What a time it was indeed.

This song still makes me tear up so much, LOTR has always been my favorite series for books and movies (including the 1900's animated ones). When my grandma was dying in the hospital, she was too far away for me and my parents to travel to her. So, I played this song on my tenor saxophone for her through a video call. I spent most of my childhood at her apartment, her babysitting me when I was young, helping me learn and improve my saxophone skills, was the inspiration for so many of my hobbies. One of my favorite things as a kid was to read the LOTR and Hobbit series while sitting next to her. And then through middle (junior high) and high school, I would play my saxophone by her. So, anytime I hear this song I just think of her and my childhood. It just makes me smile and tear up every time, remembering all the good memories I had with her. In a way, I can't wait till my day comes to go Sail Into the West and see her again.

Marvelous rendition ladies. I could listen to it on loop and never tire. As a veteran and a lover of history, this song makes me think of a poor lad breathing his last on a distant green field, pock-marked by shell holes and enshrouded by smoke. He is seeing beyond the veil of this temporary life into the far green fields and white shores of the other reality. Theoden spoke of going to the hall of his fathers where he would not be ashamed; same for the lad in my imagination. Heaven for me,something else for others.

What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see All of your fears will pass away Safe in my arms You're only sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come to carry you home And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water All Souls pass Hope fades Into the world of night Through shadows falling Out of memory and time Don't say We have come now to the end White shores are calling You and I will meet again And you'll be here in my arms Just sleeping And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water Grey ships pass Into the West

One of my best friends took his life and left me without a word. I've been grieving his loss for as long as I can remember, but this cover the gorgeous harmony of both your voices has brought me so much comfort. The tears I wept were tears of fond memories. Of a bittersweet ending. Thank you. ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss. When you take your life you are only aware of your own pain, not the pain your loss will cause to others. I made a serious attempt on my life, but by a miracle God kept me on this earth. When I recovered I realised what my loss would have done to my loved ones and it changed my attitude for good.

I'm not ashamed to admit this had me tearing up, and quite misty eyed. Thank you for the most lovely rendition of this song I've heard. 3:19 Even the elves of Middle-Earth would be weeping at the beauty of your voices harmonizing here.

I accidentally wrote this comment for another of Malinda's songs. It was intended for this full cover rendition of The Sound Of Silence: Pure perfection. Expression: Nailed it! Tone? Nailed it! Resonance? Nailed it! On Key? Nailed it! Breathing? Nailed it! Tempo? Nailed it! Crescendo? Nailed it! Enunciation with passion? Nailed it! Loved your other songs, genres surely, but this version, this masterpiece will be unmatched for years to come. I rarely have the patience to listen intently to the entirety of any one song. This song has tempered my love for perfection in human voice and expression so completely that I have listened to every note a few times a day, every day, for months. Simply perfect, unmatched in my lifetime. I would have given anything to be inside the walls of that studio, that day, for that perfection of the human voice. Well, maybe not, I'm sure I would have cried at some point and ruined historic voice perfection. Gees Malinda, everything in your being and in studio must have been in harmonic bliss during those three minutes. Incredible, will not be matched in my lifetime. Thanks 🙏

My favorite song from the LoTR films. I was blown away from the first time I heard it in the theater by the powerful chorus and minimal instrumentals. But I've got to say, *this* version is really something special! Especially the second chorus duet - every bit as powerful and with a harmony that's just an amazing fit. Seriously well done, both of you.

I remember we sang this in chorus class when I was in 9th grade, and it stuck with me ever since then, up until I had my 1st child and I would sing it to him at night. Now I find myself singing it at random moments lol. Beautiful song, and you did a beautiful job bringing it to life
