This is ur 5th child I think u have it figured out what ur doing and what works for ur kids. People shouldn't baby shame. We all have our own ways of doing things with our kids after all aa the parents we are the ones with them and know what works. Also Thumper says "if u can't say something nice don't say nothing at all". Bambi as my oldest daughter's favorite movie when she was a kid. I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep. That kept me sane. Really. Their Father worked all over the state on a Road construction crew & he was rarely home. As I looked around at the shambles and chaos around me I just read that poem and I kept rocking my baby. Dear Kim, I had three babies and never had a sound machine. MY Mom had 5 kids without a sound machine, three aunts had 10, 8 and 6 babies without a sound machine in the “ old” days….and all babies fell asleep just fine without the sound machine or singing! My kids slept through noise…everyday noise, tv, people, dog noise! I think today so much crap is out there they people are pushed to “ buy””, buy, buy”’. I didn’t sing to m babies but hummed right against their little heads and off they went to the land of nod. You’re a great Mom and don’t worry about the ones that Mom shame. You just raise those babies how you and Alex see fit and not to anyone else’s standards! You do so much and are just amazing and doing the best you can! OMG Kim when you said " Eleanor or Meredith, whatever her name is, is playing legos right now" I burst out laughing. I felt it on a cellular level, I too am the Mom of 5. When I've got too much going on I often start saying my kids names and never seem to say the correct name so I then resort to saying " You know who you are ". I always tell people that even during stressful times I always remember how thankful that I am that I have been able to have the family that I always wanted. My children are older than yours but I agree with you each stage becomes your favorite. There is something quite amazing in being able to watch your little tiny baby grow and evolve over the years. Oh dear! I have so many thoughts running around in my head. First, Wolfgang is absolutely adorable. That smile just lit up my heart! I have studied brain development for over 30 years. I love what you say about the advancing stages of childhood. You nailed it. Each stage brings with it a new way to look at your child. A new set of challenges to manage through, and disorganization of the child learning to cope and parents learning to do right by their child. It certainly is a time to celebrate the good work parents have accomplished during the last phase. It led their child to this new stage. If we could all step back and realize it isn’t always a reflection of our parenting that brings forth challenge. It is also due in part to brain and child development. Let’s stop judging parents and start celebrating what they do right. The same with children. You are the perfect parent for your child. No need to measure yourself against anyone else. Xoxoxo
