Superman wouldn’t have known. Martian shapeshifting isn’t an illusion. Biologically, MM is pretty close to a human in this scene. They can take his blood and it would appear human. The only time the blood reveals that he’s Martian is when he tries too hard to be human. When Martians try too hard to be human, they accidentally leave a few details untouched, like color of blood. No way Superman would have known this was MM.

@@brandenmarcum430 correct. as for his super senses..remember how much effort is is to hold them BACK. there's a great deleted scene in B vs S where Clark DOES try to scan ALL of gotham for his mom...and he just can't do it. too much sensory input. now, MAYBE if he knew exactly what to look for and had a reason to look..things might go diffrently. I believe this clip contains more of what I love about Superman’s character than any live action film I’ve seen, _maybe_ even live action TV. Including Reeve, as good as they were. It’s more than his looks that fit the character. It’s his tone of voice, authoritative, yet gentle and kind. It’s his presence, so regal and powerful, yet safe and comforting. He radiates a quiet and steady confidence, yet still kindness. He possesses an unearthly quality to him while still having the compassion and qualities of humanity. It’s such a horrible shame that Warner Bros ditched Henry like that. He had such amazing potential as Superman, but got wasted by higher-ups and a so-so screenplay. Similar to Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. I will give Snyder credit on visuals, realism, and originality, however. This movie really went into the deep parts of the concept of an alien refugee with superpowers, and I loved that.

I wouldn't have missed the darker aspects of the synderverse, but I would entirely enjoyed a series of Henry Cavill Superman Movies. I loved how they really gave him another world.. Krypton became alive in this movie. I was fascinated with that prologue. One of the best Krypton prologues I've ever seen.

I think what really makes this scene great is the continuity. Remember when Clark visits the church when Zod first arrives on Earth? The advice he is given is that sometimes you have to put faith before trust. The general must have faith in Superman's loyalty, and Superman trusts that the general can get Washington to listen.
@kathleenhensley59516 ай бұрын
I really don't know why they made Washington such an adversary in the next movie. Superman had just chosen humanity over his own race. All he had to do was stand in the command room of the Kryptonian ship and watch humanity die. He didn't he fought for humanity, now, why exactly is Washington questioning his loyalty?

My dad is a big fan of the old original superman movies with Christopher Reeve. I used to watch them with him and my grandpa along with Jaws and westerns. When Man of Steel came out I showed it to my dad "you HAVE to see this" and he loved it. He was amazed at how far the CGI and effects have gone in comparison to the oldies. He also believes Henry is the perfect superman and gal was the perfect wonder woman even being a Lynda Carter fan. I'm inclined to agree they were top picks.

When I first saw the movie, I felt a little sick about it. I already knew the reason for it... that it meant letting go of the Reeve version/style of Superman, as it can never be made again. But despite that, I appreciated the quality of the movie and definitely saw Cavill as the new face of Superman. I'm picky when it comes to who portrays Kal-El... * In Superboy, the first actor I thought was okay despite an oddly shaped face. Second actor I could never really accept. * Lois & Clark, Dean Cain was okay. My opinion of him lowered when he showed support for Donald. * Smallville, now we're talking! Tom Welling was the embodiment of a humble person trying to become who they are meant to be. * Superman Returns - Brandon Routh was a mixed blessing. He looked a lot like Reeve, but still sort of off. The movie had a lot of potential but they dropped the ball big time. Don't get me wrong, Routh is a good actor and I think he did his best in the movie, so any problems aren't his fault. * Man of Steel - Cavill successfully took over the reigns of the embodiment of Kal-El. I'm talking on the same level as Reeve. IMO, that is hard to achieve but Cavill did it. He's very talented and I have a great amount of respect for him. Doesn't feel like he's trying to imitate, replace, nor disrespect Reeve in any way. Rather, trying to show us who Superman is to the best of his abilities, just as Reeve tried his best. * Superman & Lois - For the show, Tyler Hoechlin a pretty good choice. I think he has the right look and the right attitude. I don't think there's anyone else that would be a better fit right now. So I definitely respect his portrayal of Kal-El. Welling was good as a young Kal-El, but we never truly saw him as Superman other than a few moments of flying, so his exclusion isn't a fault of his, just of circumstance. Prior to Reeve, there was of course Reeves and Kirk Alyn. Good for their time, when it was for pure entertainment instead of trying to give us a character as a mentor. So respect to them as well.
@markmarderosian96572 жыл бұрын
@@Wolfie713 What a great essay. Probably the most nuanced review of the strengths of the actors who've portrayed the character, with an understanding that the approach of a Kirk Alyn was a product of its time. I especially appreciate the overall theme in your essay that the character is strong enough to have many different "takes" and each of them can be equally valid.
@Wolfie7132 жыл бұрын
@@markmarderosian9657 I appreciate that. I have a high opinion and expectation for who can portray Superman/Kal-El, not only in the execution of the character, but in the looks. Sylvester Stallone supposedly tried for the lead role for the 1970's movie and as fun as he is to watch, if he had gotten the part, the movie would have failed. He doesn't have the right look, and hearing him say, "YO ADRIAN!" would have killed the movie.

General: "Yeah, but if you're so confident we won't be able to find you, why do you even need to prove the point? Let us look. That thing cost $12 million. Are you going to pay for that?" Superman: "Uhhh, oh man, this is getting intense. Just quit looking, okay, or I'll destroy more property that isn't mine." General: "We're only concerned about protecting the interests of the United States." Superman: "I grew up in Kansas. I'm basically as American as they-" General: "Wait, Kansas? You mean like Smallville, Kansas, where the aliens first showed up and trashed a random farm house before wrecking the city? Thanks! Now all we have to do is look through all the old yearbooks from Smallville High and we'll know exactly who you are by tonight?" Superman: "No, not there! It was, uhhh, some somewhere else in Kansas. Someplace far away from Smallville. And don't check the Kansas DMV drivers license photos either, because I uhhh, part of my blending in meant never learning to drive, and uhhh, ah fuck!" Really, what bothers me about the scene is not the identity discussion. It's that 1.) he crashes the drone right in front of their moving car which is very dangerous and a show of physical forced which could only be interpreted as a display of force/threat of violence, and 2.) the fact that he talks about being "as American as it gets," yet destroys government property worth millions of dollars without the consequence any regular American would have to pay.

Superman has kryptonian tech filled with all of his dad's scientific knowledge who was one of krytons top scientists, if the US government gets their hands on that tech then the universe will be open to expansion. Cooperating with the government will lead to disaster and I'm pretty sure Superman was taught enough by his dad to know this so I can't see the dark knight returns story being played out in the next movie.
@kyransawhill66509 жыл бұрын
I love that, because to me, that's exactly the kind of person Superman is. As much as I enjoyed The Dark Knight Returns as an Elseworlds tale, I can't stand how out-of-character Superman was portrayed. I mean, this is a guy who revoked his American citizenship to _prove_ to everyone that he's _not_ restricted to just the U.S. That his loyalty lies with all of Earth and its people. It's kinda like Captain America in Civil War. He fights for the American way, but in that he fights for the _people_, not the _government_.
@kyransawhill66509 жыл бұрын
That scene kinda reminds me of Action Comics Vol. 2, #3 when Lois was having lunch with Jimmy and Clark the day that Superman's alien origins were revealed to the world and she commented, "My _sister's_ response? 'So there's a whole planet of these hot superguys?'" Anyway, back to the Champion of the Oppressed part, that's one of my favorite things about Superman. And about _Clark_. While he's off fighting for the little people as the Man of Steel, he's also sitting at home typing up columns that expose the corrupt businessmen who feed off those people and shedding more light on the underprivileged citizens. Lois once mentioned how one of her favorite things about him was that it was impossible to walk down the street with the guy without him giving change to the homeless and even remembering their names. He's so passionate about it that he's willing to become a menace in the eyes of the law if it means bringing justice to those who cheat hardworking Metropolitans out of their jobs and look down on others like ants. People like Glen Glenmorgan and, of course, Lex Luthor. Then there as that time he broke into a military base and fought off a whole squadron of soldiers just to free Lor-Zod (who was later adopted as Christopher Kent). So as much as he respects the law and those dedicated to carrying it out, he's not shy when it comes to going outside of the system to defeat the real threats. Those we deal with in real life.
@kyransawhill66509 жыл бұрын
Batman and Superman both started out a little more like vigilantes than they are nowadays, but Clark has always been a little more up front about it. Like you said, he's all about _truth_ and justice. He definitely became a little bit less rebellious and more boyscout-y over the years, but never faltered in his beliefs and principles and never bowed down to the government when they tried to prevent him from doing what he believes is right. Because that's just who Superman is. He does the right thing, no matter what, because the _people_ are more important to him than things or laws and there's nothing that'll stop him from sticking up for them. That's something I love about Superman. People complain about him being a flawless Mary Sue all the time, but that's just a narrow mindset. Clark is a very deep, thought-provoking individual whose values have inspired me in everyday life, to become a better person and treat others the way they ought to be treated. I give to the homeless whenever I see an opportunity, I offer everyone a second chance, and I try my best to make others happier. If Superman can provoke people to do good in real life, I don't see the problem with him.

The government was using that satellite to keep an eye on Superman, which they had every right to do, considering that he had just destroyed half of Metropolis. Superman then smashes it into the ground and then he's smug about it. Then, in the next movie, Superman hates Batman because Batman is a vigilante, who takes the law into his own hands. Can we change Superman's name to Captain Hypocrite? He's holding the planet hostage and basically saying, "I'm going to do whatever the f*ck I want." This is not a good man and this is not a happy ending. The Daily Planet's headline should not be, "Superman saves the world." It should be, "creepy space alien harbors the doom of us all."
