@ATrain at the same time, Zod only came to Earth because of Clark being there. They wanted him to get TF off the plant so he wouldnt draw in more alien threats. Some peoples family probably died, and several expensive buildings, even a satellite, got destroyed in the process.. they also feared him because of how powerful he is.. if he got mind controlled or went bad for whatever reason, that could lead to genocide. Exactly why Lex wants him gone, and why Batman is always prepared for the worst around him.

Least of all Superman. Plus it helps Cavill understands the character and how to play him, especially the flawed version.

I honestly think this entire conflict and story would work SO much better as a sequel. We have our first Superman movie which sets up his mostly hopeful side, learning his powers, setting up his principles and ethics he values as a human/person/hero, maybe have the villain be a human (Lex?) or people with powers to show this Superman not everything about humans is perfect, but its ur job to guide them, to inspire truth, justice and hope. THEN the sequel challenges Superman's values, the way he operates, with the villains being his own kind. He cannot hold back when it comes to fighting them. But even then it costs so much loss. Then in the end, he has to break his values and kill someone, his own uncle no less (I think Zods his uncle?). And this makes this better cuz now after looking up to Superman, people are now much easier to be afraid of him, easily setting up his debacle in BvS with Batman and with people in general.

@wordsmith681 Жыл бұрын
100% Agree. I have come to really appreciate this film but one of my qualms is fitting Zod & Co. into this movie as the main protagonists. One of the wonderful attributes of the original in 1978 and its sequel was to time taken to unpack the story of Kal-el and as you say, learn his powers and generally acclimate to earth/humanity. We get to watch him become Superman, matching wits with genius criminal and yet still human, Lex Luthor. It is not until Superman II do we get to see him square off against beings equal to his strength. Sometimes less is more and a Man of Steel that just gave us wonderful origin and coming of age story would have been perfect. Then a deftly handled follow up movie with Zod would have been even better.

Then he explains that he exists only to serve Krypton... and when that is gone he has nothing left and that's when the death match breaks out. People complained SO MUCH about this honestly great film; that we got nothing but butchered messes for the most part after. WB had a goldmine with this type of gritty, serious depiction of its heroes. With these incredible, high octane set pieces that Marvel STILL hasn't replicated to this day (for the most part). You messed up WB

The funny thing is the way this fight went down is almost the exact way Superman vs doomsday went down. Obviously we got “doomsday” in Batman v Superman, but after Zack Snyder said “the real doomsday is still out there”, imagine how crazy that fight would go down?

well... even worse it's directed as if Zod has to turn his head when he could just turn his eyes... Zod is definitely in the top 5 or so opponents in film history. And he's actually : In the right. Kal and his father were technically traitors and thieves... Everyone went nutz over Thanos and while he wasn't bad... he was pretty fuckin far from the Thanos in the comics that killed half the universe to impress a chick (Mistress Death)... That's a hell of a way to flirt..

I loved the final fight with zod, but I just wish they hinted more at Superman activately trying to minimize the destruction, like supes trying to take the fight somewhere else, or trying to catch the gas truck and having zod don't letting him do any of these, I think it would've reinforce Superman as a character

@ATrain yes, he's not experienced, but doesn't even showed an attempt to avoid conflict in town, sure he's green and will most likely not have any sort of control of the situation, but like I said, I didn't dislike tha fight, I just wanted him to show some more importance towards reducing damage

Good point. When I saw MOS for the second time I heard a moviegoer at the end say angrily at least you (Superman) could've helped dig people out before getting up and leaving. For some the utter destruction and neck snap were too much.

He had no choice but to concentrate on Zod. He couldnt have taken the fight to somewhere else because Zod would have just killed people on purpose. Zod: I'm going to make them suffer Kal. These humans youve adopted, I will take them all from you! One by one. That doesnt sound like a being who is going to allow the fight to be taken somewhere else.

Yep. Even without sun exposure, the Kryptonians would ragdoll humans because of the difference in gravity on both planets. A human wouldn't even be able to step foot on Krypton without being crushed by his/her own weight.

One complaint I’ve seen is “Superman would never kill” but he himself simply said he prefers not too. He understands at some point somethings have to be put down, not that he won’t try and find every solution before had. One example during JLA Trail of Fire, Manhunter got taken over by an old Martian called Furnace, and having MM’s powers on 100% he was a threat to the entire world. To the point where he was trying to set off every nuke, and have thousands of people kill themselves, even went as far to as Clark if he could lobotomies Luthor. After Clark out of the sake of his friend tried to exhaust every option prior, he eventually told the JLA they had to put him down no matter what cost. The threat of keeping Furnace alive or prolonging the fight any longer would result in countless tragedies.

Always thought this was a very good fight they didn’t hide the destruction that would inevitably happen with two beings fighting with that type of power. It’s sucks to see all those people die really but if Superman would fail then the world would fall. Still hard to see if that was someone you knew or loved.

they should make an alternate history where superman is able to turn Zod good like Vegita. That would make for some new and original story.
@MrMan2006 Жыл бұрын
So.. Superman and Zod throw it down in the city and destroy the entire thing, killing thousands of people. There's no way people DIDN'T die in their battle. Buildings were toppled, Superman dragging Zod through buildings, Zod kicking Superman through 3 more, and massive collateral damage. Yet Superman doesn't seem to even bat an eye at the people he's hurting and killing. The real Superman would have had a conflict of saving people in the middle of his fight and trying his hardest to keep the damage to a minimum. Zod would have tried to kill people to prove a point and try to kill Superman. Think Invincible vs Omni Man, but on a bigger scale and make the hero an actual match for the villain. When Superman has Zod in a headlock and cries out to Zod as to not kill the civilians, it doesn't work at all because just a few seconds earlier, Superman dragged Zod through a building without batting an eye to the amount of people he killed. Also Zod could have easily killed those people with heat vision by... moving his eyes just a little bit to the right... lol. And don't get me wrong, I'm fine with destruction in a superhero film, especially in a scene where 2 superpowered "gods" throw it down in a city. But the fact that we're supposed to buy into the idea of Superman suddenly caring for civilians and protecting the Earth despite causing almost half the amount of destruction Zod caused in this fight (which says a lot, the entire city was in ruins) is very dumb. So I don't mind the destruction, I mind the concept of Superman's love for humanity being mishandled, and the final scene was kind of dumb and I found it very ironic. 5/10 movie at best because First Flight carries the film.
