My dad took me to see this movie on the opening night and I’ll never forget how much we all cheered once Superman started to crush General Zod‘s hand and the music started in. It was the first time I’d ever gone to a movie where the audience audibly cheered. It was amazing.

I love this scene because it shows that *Superman* realized that using punches and powers weren't going to win the battle. Thus, *Superman* finally understood his opponents (including Lex Luthor's deceitful ways) and went back to his *Fortress of Solitude* and used "prep-time" to outsmart them. Furthermore, in the first film *Lex Luthor* said "Mind over muscle" to *Superman* as a way to show his dominance over our hero. Now in this film, *Superman* did exactly that in this scene and when *Lex Luthor* realized it, *Superman* pointed to his head gesturing, "Yep, Luthor. Mind over muscle. I used my brain."

@@chpsilva They died. That scene was _deleted._ Deleted scenes don't count. Only what we see on screen guides what audiences think happened. In 1980, when audiences walked out of the theater, they had just scene all three Kryptonians dropped down a chasm, and that's the last anyone ever sees of them. I assure you, every person in the audience thought that was lights out for Zod, Ursa, and Non, because the film gave them no reason to think anything else. And as I said, no one seemed to have a problem with it back then.

@Hibernicus1968 following your reasoning: have you seen they dead ? No ? Yeah, me neither. They weren't dead, just accept it.
@Hibernicus19687 күн бұрын
@@chpsilva Yeah, no one in the audience was nitpicking like that. Richard Lester made the directorial choice to _omit_ the scene showing them survive and be taken into custody, knowing full well audiences would assume they fell to their deaths, because ordinary, non-superpowered humans don't fall from a great height to either go splat on hard, unyielding ice, or plunge into icy Artic waters. Lester wasn't going to _show_ them go splat, because this was a movie with a lot of kids in the audience, but it was understood. Viewers saw unrepentant villains get presumably lethal comeuppance, _and they were fine with it._ That's the important point you seem determined to miss: it _really doesn't matter_ if "wELL AcKShuaLly..." they survived and were taken into custody. The point is, in 1980, when people saw this, they _saw_ Superman crush Zod's hand and, _assumed_ he threw him to his death, and no one blew a gasket over it.
