As an Arsenal fan i hope this is a sign of good things to come for both teams. UTDs back line was incredibly solid and provided many opportunities for counters, and Arsenal looks dangerous in the midfield but still lacks the maturity to see out a full game against a top team. Hopefully we’ll see a top 3 shake up this year

I watched the game live and haven’t watched the highlights back but when Arteta made the three subs bringing on 2 players besides Smith Rowe, he looked at all three and started to write something down on the piece of paper he had in his hands. Same with the rest of out attacking players (even Ronaldo a bit now), they're not just running for through-balls, they're making runs to open space for other players, or to press, it's a thing of beauty and it's only going to get better as they grow into the system.

ETH got his tactics spot on - stretch the flanks in the 1st half, ambush and run through spaces in the 2nd. Between Ronaldo and Fred, not sure who was the false 9 but Fred taking that destroyer midfielder role up high and pressing ferociously freed Bruno and Eriksen to perfect the maestro role interchangeably. When Casemiro came in 2 DMs, 2 CMs and a pressing AM was just too much in the middle for Arsenal to have any impact.

A game where both sides showed their strengths. It boiled down to who was more clinical on the day. Arsenal were very good on the ball but if you don't finish your chances and make a massive error while playing your back four on the half way line against pace then you'll get killed. Respect to Ten Hag for what he's done following the Brentford game. Took it back to basics, made them hard to beat, told them to run or come in on your day off and picked a back 4 that actually seems to work. From a team who have conceded a stupid amount of goals this year they've only conceded 2 in the last 4.. both against decent sides who dominated them for long periods.

Nice analysis. I think you missed the reason why there was so much space behind the Arsenal defence at the 2-1 and the 3-1, which was Ronaldo’s subtitution. From the point Ronaldo took over that striker position and Rashford got to the left hand side, the Arsenal defence wasnt scared anymore for balls in behind and moved up 10 meters or so while in possession. That gave Rashford the space to run in behind from the left hand side twice. A trap layed by Ten Hag and Arteta fell for it.

EtH is so desperate for an inverted RW that's why he plays Antony right away while player like casemiro still needs 'a time to adapt' Those RW positions are a liability on attack when united played elanga there, elanga isn't a right winger nor an inverted one, so most of united attack from right is came from dalot alone because elanga practically useles when he play on that side. Now I understand his reasoning to start Antony, even though he knows Antony still lacked match fitness and subbed him off after an hour of playing

I thought Eriksen had been such a revelation for united. He's so much harder working than Pogba. And even at 30years old, he runs so much more than Pogba had ever done for United in the years that Pogba had been in the club. As a united fan I can totally see why Ten Hag is not fully satisfied with the teams performance. Although they won 3-1, with the exception of Antony's goal, the other 2 were scored on very tight margins. Both of Rashfords goals were a few inches away from misses/blocks. Ten Hag loves to play dominating football, yet on paper (statistically) it was Arsenal who dominated. Without Eriksen and the Defensive line, the game probably would have turned out differently.

They haven’t dominated any of the 4 games they have won tbh. They are much better on the counter than they are with controlled build up so they still have a lot of work to do until they can play how Ten Hag wants them to. But the culture/character is changing, defensive stability is returning and the more intricate tactical bits will just take time. Feels like progress but we have heard that before…

I guess I'm just greedy, but I'd rather see us win games by as you said, those more intricate tactical bits rather than relying on flukes/penalties/incompetent opponents, which I think we relied on a lot last season

The thing is, counter attacking football is a part of Manchester United’s culture. We’ve even played it under Ferguson. The footballing style is embedded in this club. Which is why we’ve been playing like this under every manager, even Van Gaal, when you saw some possession dominance. It won’t always be pretty football. Counter attacking football will be a part of ten Hag’s reign, and it won’t go anywhere. Regardless of his philosophy.

Correct me if I am wrong but United played a very matured football, to me Arsenal were trying to do everything but all they did was fall for the United's trap from upfront such can be of Rashford and Bruno pushing the line from upfront while Eriksen keeping an eye on Odegard, they let Arsenal be happy controlling the ball. This will never work every week for United tho... but they knew Arsenal's sort of approach in every game it was very identical even to previous games and tbh Arsenal made a big mistake by changing the subs a lot... it really affected the momentum of the game maybe that's the emotion playing part in it, maybe Artheta could have at least sit back and not rush into it because it was still 1-1. United didn't play anywhere near world class but they did play very well to see the loopholes of Arsenal thus United have more shots on target than Arsenal where they had more ball possession.

Arsenal fan stop kidding yourself, This manager is on his fourth season and been building this team for 3 1/2 years. Against a manager that’s been there for three months and it’s just starting to build this team. Five of the starting lineup was bought at the beginning of the season with no preseason. Arsenal full squad had a full preseason. If Arsenal is going to achieve anything this season they should’ve won this game, it just shows that Mikel Arteta it’s not it.

This is nothing new, the Prem refs have been working against us ever since the Wenger days. It's like all the refs collectively decided to have a negative bias against us, we get red cards from challenges where van Dijk can get away with a finger wag and teams playing against us can commit fouls all the time even in the box and the outcome is rarely a penalty. It just is what it is.

I can understand to a degree why people are saying Arsenal played well, their system was pretty and they had nice passing moves. However, they were not clinical when they needed to be. The goal they eventually scored was gifted by United giving the ball away in the midfield. De Gea came off his line even though Dalot had Gabriel Jesus covered. Dalot tackled the ball away but it fell to Saka while De Gea was wildly out of position. Credit to Saka for putting it away in that instance. Great game, United didn't play pretty for the most part, but when they did counter it was efficient and clinical. Arsenal's naivety and Arteta's late changes let them down. GGMU

United played well Arsenal played well. United played at Old Trafford and were happy to sit on the counter. That's the difference. The amount of people now saying that United are going to come above Arsenal and that Arsenal wont get top 4 because of one game is ridiculous. We never beat United at Old Trafford, they never beat us at Emirates. People saying Arsenal failed at their first test are clearly extremely bitter - Palace beat some of the best teams in the league at Selhurst Park last year and we got a clean sheet against them, Fulham got a draw against Liverpool we dominated them, Leicester are in poor form but we were arguably the team to start their poor form with a complete domination. Arsenal are continuing to look strong and United fans are getting very overconfident. These aren't the games that will get us top 4. United are going to continue to struggle against high pressure or low block teams. Palace at Selhurst Park I reckon will beat them.

Arsenal was a better team. They could have easily won this game. Their front 3 Jesus, Martinelli and Saka were a menace all game and looked like they could score every time they go forward, with Odegaard providing creativity. Their build up passes was a joy a watch. Arsenal has a gem in Jesus who is probably their best signing since Henry. The guy has everything. dribbling, movement, positioning, physicality, finishing, header... too good to be a fringe player to Haaland. Young players like Martinelli and Saka also are coming of age. Pains me as a United fan to stay that they're already ahead of us. I'm not too excited on United winnng form just yet. No doubt ETH is improving the team but the depth of squad doesn't convince me yet. Rashford was holding his hamstring, Martinez also left early, assuming Eriksen wont be playing through the whole season with his age and heart, so basically we're just a few injuries away from going back to being average again. I'm sure this will be addressed in 2 to 3 more transfer window (because I dont think we will make big signings again in Jan) and i'm basking in these wins for now, but i wouldn't get too carried away just yet.

Ball possession teams such as Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal need to find a way to break counter attacks, break 5-4-1 defensive formation, or concentrate their full strength to score an early goal. Scoring a goal first will open up any defensive play style relying heavily on transitions, including what Man United have been doing last 4 games. Teams such Tottenham or Man United will forced to go in attack and this will open them up and collapse. This what happens when Man City or Liverpool score and early goal, you are doomed the rest of the game.

But here, under EtH, we literally bisected the Arsenal midfield through Eriksen's top quality line breaking passes which exposed their back line to our pace.. there is a huge difference between the two playing styles...
