The man who whacked Nancy Kerrigan in the knee is speaking out on TV for the first time in two decades about the attack seen around the world. Shane Stant attacked the Olympic figure skater with a collapsible baton 24 years ago. “The truth is I just thought, well, I’ll do this and kind of go on with my life and she'll go on with her life,” he told Inside Edition. He said there was talk of doing much worse to Kerrigan, who was 24 back in January 1994 at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. #InsideEdition

He didn't ruin Nancy's career. She was already close to retirement but was able to win an Olympic silver medal only 6 weeks after this attack. It must have been a terrifying experience for her but contrary to popular belief, her knee wasn't actually broken - she suffered a bad bruise. I hope that doesn't like I'm downplaying how serious violence is but we need to keep this in perspective. Kerrigan isn't a tragic figure - I doubt she would want to be thought of as one either.

The only person he spoke to besides the other blokes was her husband. At the time he was convinced there was no way she didn’t know yet he may have rethought this through the years.. When he was asked “did she know” he is hesitant, maybe he was thinking “I think so but I have actually no evidence”. And so he keeps his mouth shut. Without ever being able to know for sure, I believe Tonya when she says she had no prior knowledge of the attack. Of course I could be wrong. She was not treated badly, she behaved badly for slacking off, skipping practice, being late for competitions, and not checking her equipment. She had a bad lazy attitude and was given a lot more leniency than the other skaters before the attack happened. After her husband abused her physically and refused to let her go after she got a restraining order against him…she had every reason to be afraid of him and the fact that they did not even include her in planning what they wanted to do shows that she was just an object to them. It’s easy to blame an abused woman for what her abuser does, though, right? We believe him as soon as he says “I did it for her” and if she has the slightest hint of an unsavory personality, we throw her under the bus.

What was portrayed in the film was that Tonya in the beginning knew about the plan to mail death threat letters to Kerrigan, which was planned by Jeff's delusional friend Shawn with Jeff's funding. (Tonya herself was sent a death threat initially before the whole letter plan, which Jeff later on found out Shawn made the false death threat for some insane reason from his plan.) When things got serious with her preparation for the olympics, she detached herself from the planning, caring less about what they were doing so she could focus on practicing. When it came to the actual attacked, it was portrayed that Jeff and Tonya didn't know that Shawn had planned, along with hired hit man Derrick and his nephew Shane (in the clip), to bash Kerrigan's knee. So most likely, she knew something was up in relation to doing "something" to Kerrigan. Whether she really knew about only the letters or knew something about the attack since the accounts of the participants seems to change may never be known. The film gave off a vibe that Jeff's friend Shawn was insecure, delusional, and crazy and that he was the mastermind of the whole thing, but put the blame on Jeff and Tonya was caught in the crossfire and paid a great debt for it. Guilty by association. I watched a documentary with Shane and he was claiming more that Tonya did know about him and the plan. This interivew, it's like he is avoiding revealing the truth all together. Maybe he just wants to put it aside and not blame anyone and move on.
