It is possibly something to consider if really symptomatic or in emergency scenarios. Best to chat to your healthcare professional 🙂

@@clinicalchronicles Recent conclusions that seeds, nuts and popcorn are safe for diverticulitis patients to eat are based on only ONE study. (Strate LL, Liu YL, Syngal S, et al. Nut, corn, and popcorn consumption and the incidence of diverticular disease. JAMA. 2008;300:907-914.) I have had diverticulitis for over 25 years and lost 8" of my sigmoid colon to this disease. Every episode I have had of this disease can be traced back to ingesting nuts, either intentionally or unintentionally. I have been symptom-free for over 2 decades after surgery by increasing fiber in my diet and scrupulously avoiding seeds, nuts and popcorn. Last week I had my first diverticulitis infection in over 20 years and I am 100% certain it was caused by eating toffee that contained almonds of which I was unaware at the time. No single study will ever convince me that seeds, nuts and popcorn are safe to eat with this condition. And NO antibiotics for diverticulitis? That's just absurd. Perhaps some flare-ups can be treated without antibiotics if no infection has set up in your colon already, but other cases cannot be remediated without them. My original incidence of diverticulitis was treated with antibiotics, but not enough to completely eradicate the infection. I would relapse weeks after a course of antibiotics and was eventually rushed into emergency surgery when my sigmoid colon became too damaged to save. All because no one ever checked to ensure that the antibiotics had actually stopped the infection. I'm taking Cipro again with this latest attack because it's still the standard of care for this disease and the only way to reverse it's course if the colon is already inflamed and infected. To suggest that they are not needed at all in the treatment of this disease is simply wrong. I will take decades of my own personal experience and volumes of past medical research over the latest "study" or "thinking" about this disease any day.

In no way did I suggest that antibiotics are not needed. There is a time and place for everything. And the same goes for nuts and so on. Your case is unique to you. I am sure there are diverticular disease sufferers who have no issues with nuts - and the examples can go on and on. To say the content which is evidence based is wrong based on your own unique circumstances is not right, as there are others who react differently to different things. I am glad you found what works for you, that is what is most important.
