Remembering the concept and progress in concept throughout the story when reading, is one of the main reasons I try to stick with only a few mangas at a time (2-3 mangas)!! Also I try to really remember certain key concepts of the story and even make screenshots of important revelations, so when i come back into the story (especially with on-going mangas), I have some sort of a short summary!! Sometimes, like in One Piece, I go back to certain chapters and re-read them to not forget newly established story progress or watch youtube-videos about characters!! Reading or watching discussions on Reddit and KZbin help me lock in certain key moments in my memory, so I'm better able to remember them in the future!! The fandom helps a lot here!! Also the more time I spend in the story (taking my time, reading up on fan-wikis, watching secondary content) the more I am likely to remember the important stuff!!
@evandercaldwell99933 ай бұрын
Also, I tend to read different styles of manga at the same time (1 gag-manga or cozy-manga, 1 seinen, 1 shonen) to switch it up a bit, so I don't read several demanding mangas all at once!!

Eyy let's go. Super hyped to see you started Fire Punch and planning to get Fujimoto's oneshots too. This is an interesting topic where I think your mileage would determine a lot, you've actually covered a pretty niche spectrum of manga with a lot of works that are considered more fringe or rare. The manga and anime world has been over-saturated by many formulaic works for a long time that followed this kind of "magic power battles with skimpy girls in compromising positions" and I don't knock it but I've been reading that for such a long time that when someone like Fujimoto came on the scene his works felt very refreshing. Like in Chainsaw Man when Denji's goal of getting a "squeeze" from Power for his first big battle ended up with him realizing that he only felt empty after it and that this goal didn't live up to what he imagined it would, the fights that aren't solved by flashy moves and cheering crowds but sometimes end in seconds in a very brutally realistic fashion and losses that can be felt. Maybe I'm rambling but that's the kind of perspective thing I mean and your personal experience and history with the medium can dictate a lot. You asked what western stuff influenced content in Japan and here's a fun one, the 1962 Sabrina the Teenage Witch from Archie comics is considered an inspiration for the "magical girl" genre that became a phenomenon in anime and manga with the very first anime being Sally the witch from 1966, and of course many more that came to follow like Sailor Moon. Very hyped to see you delve further into FP! It introduces some very interesting themes and concepts as early as the next volume and only gets better from there imo.

I read "skimpy girls in compromising positions" quickly picked up my pad and pen, please do tell me more, I need to know for research purposes. @bloody_hilarious3 ай бұрын
@@comiccasper3053 Haha oh it's so ubiquitous you'd be hard pressed to find a manga without that. It's really more of a spectrum, there's a recent one that generated some buzz called Chained Soldier that indulges in it a lot. But then you have some classics like Sun-Ken Rock where at first glance you wouldn't even think it's the type of content you'd find in it but it is.

I find this to be a strange take. I don’t think having different, unique concepts makes something harder to understand. Western comics (as a westerner) I’ve found are way harder to get into despite being in colour and reading left to right. Manga panel just flow so much better and aren’t crammed with dialogue boxes that are hard to decode.
@comiccasper30533 ай бұрын
Love your input Sheerperfection, really appreciate it.
@evandercaldwell99933 ай бұрын
I agree, western comics can be more crammed with information and backstory, manga is more straightforward imo, but depends on the comic/manga, I guess!! And the whole western superhero comic market, for example, is an absolute nightmare to navigate, when it comes to chronology, where you should start reading and what different titles to read for the whole story-arc!!p
@comiccasper30533 ай бұрын
@@evandercaldwell9993 The chronology of western comics can be a multiverse of madness for sure. Whilst I know who Spider-Man is, I can barely keep up with what's going on in his life.
@evandercaldwell99933 ай бұрын
@@comiccasper3053 Yeah, it really ruined the experience for me, as I am a completionist 😓 but I'll never be able to catch up on 50 years of superhero comics PER superhero, especially with the confusing reading orders!! When I see a new villain I wanna know when they first appeared and how they progressed throughout the decades, but it's just a never-ending jungle of stories and every story gets ret-conned a thousand times over and titles changing constantly!! Reading certain runs of creators is fine, but as I said, it's not the WHOLE THING, I'm a completionist and my OCD goes through the roof, when confronted with such an overwhelming backlog of stories to pick from!! So mangas are relaxing to me, as there is one story at a time and spin-off mangas mostly get released after the main story is done and they don't intertwine in plot-progression, so I can casually read one story at a time!! Western superhero comics need to be streamlined for sure, but it's already too late, I guess!! 😂

ive never heard this sentiment. manga is perfectly written 9/10 in my opionion, comics make me feel like im having a stroke dialogue lines at times flowing so bad id swear comics were translated from another language and manga was written in english. manga is MANY times deeper than comics are on a general sense. a single line can hold so much in a manga, lines in comics are almost always just someone saying what they're directly seeing or feeling. everything is really straight forward for the most part, leaving little to none up to imagination. its fun to have your videos to watch, as you represent opposite ideals as I do. and even are doing a reverse collecting experience as I, like i started reading manga and watching anime when i was young and its been part of my life forever, i collected manga for YEARS before ever even reading a single comic issue until just last year, now im branching out and try to stay positive with it but marvel and DCs fans frustrate me more than any manga fan base, as they all force their opinions down your throat. marvel is fun to me and DC has deeper stories and cooler fights, in my personal opinion. im still i think always gonna be a manga fan over a comic fan but im glad i have comics, they are a nice palette cleanser.

Mangas dialogue are too basic feels like 5th grade student translated. Where comics use some complex words in dialogue which challenge my mind to learn new vocabularies. Manga relies on excessive speed lines which makes the fight hard to understand. I am glad that I'm still holding comics because if I don't then I could've missed comics Such as Transformers Power Rangers Dawnrunner Rook: Exodus Monstress Saga King Spawn Conan the barbarian Ultimate Spider-man Alex Ross's Fantastic Four Millarworld TMNT

I can understand the sentiment, reading manga can really feel out there sometimes. 😅 I'm not too familiar with no gun's life but it was interesting to hear about, about the concepts you nailed it, "Blame!" by Tsutomi Nihei takes the cake for that for me - it has a massive intricate world with its own names for events, companies, objects, life forms and other things that are thrown around and you are indeed expected to almost learn a new language but at the same time it has very minimal dialogue with sometimes multiple chapters being completely silent, the author has background in architecture so he lets the sprawling world do the speaking. Randomly PewDiePie has a cool video on it called "my favorite manga" it's only a few minutes long and spoiler free and I'd recommend giving it a watch! 😊 Nice you got into Fire Punch! And you didn't get deterred 😅 The first volume is a lot, it has some very heavy themes and imagery but it's the only one that throws you in such cold water, starting with volume 2 and onwards it really picks up and goes totally not where you would ever expect and it's a wild ride all the way through to the end 🔥 Very excited to see you continue whenever you get to it, no rush 😅
@comiccasper30533 ай бұрын
What an awesome comment, thank you, and I'm happy I don't feel alone on needing to learn a new language everytime I'm stepping into an epic manga. That is so cool that PewDiePie reviewed it, I should check it out, must have made a huge impression on him, knowing it compelled him to make a video on it. Fire Punch is a lot, pretty heavy stuff, but would love to know more.
