It's a handsome looking stock! Definitely dried out and shrunk. Try a soak in raw linseed oil. Should start to swell the fibers of the wood back up a little.

Definitely happy with mine considering some of the ones I've seen go out. No major cracks, trigger works, and after about 5 hours of cleaning looks pretty good considering the age.

Just got mine this weekend, missing the rear barrel band and the safety, but my volley sight is still there. My gun looks like it spent 60 years in a barrel or motor oil, the stock is unbelievably dark, almost pitch black when I got it. But I guess the oil kept the barrel in good shape because my bore is looking sharp.

I also got one of these during the sale. Very similar condition except mine has darker wood. Same shrunken wood and loose trigger guard. Yours is missing the safety. Not a functional issue however. A trick for reinserting the bolt is to use a coin to hold the cocking piece away from the bolt body. Good rifle for the price!

Mine looks great nice dark stock. I was missing the safety as well but I found one in numrich. Should be here in a day or two. I did have a nice size crack on the right side by the tang. Apparently that’s very common spot for it to crack but it should be easy enough to repair. Bore is good but dirty I still haven’t completely cleaned the bore but everything else is cleaned. I had a nice big dead spider and web in the magazine. Overall I’m pretty happy with it at the $200 price point, but if I had a motor for that I don’t think it would be worth it. I also ended up getting a Gras Calvary carbine on that Labor Day sale.

That Crack you note at 2:20, seems to be very common, I have seen like 4-5 of these rifles with a crack in the same area

always check the bore for ethiopian bore spiders i call them lol. I got one in my Bertier i ordered from them. It definitely looked like it wasnt native to the americas. I thought it was just a dead bug or some gunk at first then it slowly started to move!!

Sounds like RTI needs to fumigate their imports. They don't want to get fined for invasive species!

Very interesting to see it not have the safety but having the safety screw. Almost all the 1888/90’s I’ve seen from them are also missing the screw. I have an 1888/90 as well as another 1888/95 for the collection coming in a few days so only time will tell

I thought that was odd too, it just shows they purposely removed the safeties. Hope your Mannlichers are in good shape

How long does it take for the rifles to come. I ordered 1 this year and I keep checking but it says pending, I even sent them a copy of my license and emailed them but nothing

I haven't had any experience but I've heard their customer service is hit or miss. Both my rifles from them took about 3 weeks to arrive.

What caliber is this, do they still make ammunition for it ?

It's in 8x50r Austrian. Some specialty reloaders may make it, but no large producers.
