While I was walking around the Mosque of Cordoba, I noticed that most of the tourists only cared about the shape and color of the columns and arches, and they stood for a long time in front of the mihrab, contemplating the beauty of the inscriptions and the splendor of the domes. Most of them denounced the presence of the church and statues in the middle of the mosque.

@@neblocker17 Well done and congratulations. Thank you for your Comment, but I don't think I had any good ideas. 😀 I am an old man, and I only reported what I have seen people of ALL faiths actually doing. I was not so fortunate in the Church i was born into - the Roman Catholic Church is guilty of much hypocrisy, oppression (eg of women) and of evil ( such as hiding serious sexual crimes against children, and massive corruption of Church funds ) I could NEVER in good conscience follow any faith that says that God requires people to die or be killed in his/her nameI Therefore, I practise the philosophical principles of Humanism, and it's quite simple: "Love, care for, and do no violence to fellow human beings. Do no harm. Do not kill." Crusades, wars, jihads or any killing in God's name is an abomination. Humanists don't disagree on this. Just do it, is my motto. It's never easy, but try, anyway.

It was like crossing a time an space portal. I agree with the kings opinion. It should have not been done, but on the other hand it created an even more unique building. It may have also helped to preserve better the remaining Muslim parts of the mosque. A pity that only one and not both worships are not allowed today there.

Excellent coverage with so much useful information about the great mosque of Cordoba covering all necessary aspects from history to design and archecture. Well done. I have visited this place three times. It is a masterpiece buit by the muslim umayyads of Cordoba and later stolen by the catholic extrimists in 1236 and converted it to catholic temple by force without buying it from the muslim people of cordoba before they got expeled. Unlike what happened to Aya Sofia in Istanbul when Fetih has bought it from the orthodox and converted it to mosque. Luckily today Spain is secular and wish one day it takes the building from the church and convert it to a muesum or allow us as muslims to pray in al mihrab area next to the christians who pray in their section located in the middle of the building

*lol.* *It looks like you are inventing your own history here.* *Here's the fact.* _The present-day site of the Cathedral-Mosque of Córdoba was _*_originally a Visigothic Christian church_*_ dedicated to Saint Vincent of Saragossa, which was divided and shared by Christians and Muslims after the Umayyad conquest of Hispania._ _As the Muslim community grew and this existing space became too small for prayer, the basilica was expanded little by little through piecemeal additions to the building._ _This sharing arrangement of the site lasted until 785, when the Christian half was purchased by Abd al-Rahman I, who then proceeded to _*_demolish_*_ the church structure and build the grand mosque of Córdoba on its site._ *LOL* *YOU ARE SPREADING FAKE HISTORIES HERE.* *There was No Record that Fetih bought the Hagia Sophia.* _When Mehmed and his entourage entered the church, he ordered that it be _*_converted into a mosque immediately._* _One of the ʿulamāʾ (Islamic scholars) present climbed onto the church's ambo and recited the shahada ("There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger"), thus marking the beginning of the conversion of the church into a mosque._ *_Mehmed is reported to have taken a sword to a soldier who tried to pry up one of the paving slabs of the Proconnesian marble floor._* *How pathetic.* *They even looted, desecrated and destroyed churches in Constantinople.* _Throughout the siege of Constantinople, the trapped people of the city participated in the Divine Liturgy and the Prayer of the Hours at the Hagia Sophia, and the church was a safe-haven and a refuge for many of those who were unable to contribute to the city's defence, including women, children, elderly, the sick and the wounded._ *_As they were trapped in the church,_*_ the many congregants and other refugees inside became spoils-of-war to be divided amongst the triumphant invaders._ *_The building was desecrated and looted, and those who sought shelter within the church were enslaved._* *_While most of the elderly and the infirm, injured, and sick were killed, the remainder (mainly teenage males and young boys) were chained and sold into slavery._* *How hypocrite and heartless are the Ottoman Muslims.* tsk tsk tsk *So it was the Islamist Extremist people from Arabia that first conquered the Church and demolished it.* *Do not be hypocrite.* *A lot of ancient Churches were converted into mosque during the Ottoman and Islamic conquest in Asia Minor and North Africa.* *Islamists are also destroyers of Heritage sites.* *We're glad it came back to its original purpose.* *A Church.* *And if it will become a Museum it would Stop to function as a Worship building.* *No any religion would use it for a particular function.* *It would just be a Museum that's all.* *But We would still prefer it to function as a Church.* *Turkey is also a secular country but they reverted the Hagia Sophia into a Mosuque.* *Don't be blind.*

It's a Free Country a Secular one. But One thing is for sure we don't want to submit these heritage sites to anybody else. And do you think Sharia will come back to Spain? No way!! hahaha Sharia is Oppressive and demonic. And you got it all wrong about your misconceptions about the Inquisition. How about the Islamic conquest and Islamic inquisitions? Did you feel sorry for looting our lands, desecrating the churches, imposed heavy taxes, also killing for those who don't want to embrace Islam? As if Muslims are not committing atrocities from the past and in present. Take Note. *In the Present.* Why until these days there are Muslim countries imposed their Sharia law to the people and even force conversion in the modern age?

@@beausu5823 just to correct some information, the Umayyads didn't invade Spain since it didn't exist as country back then they invaded the Germain visigothic kingdom. Ferdinand and Isabella didn't expel the Umayyads since the Umayyad kingdom in Iberia collapsed from within long before 1492. Ferdinand and Isabella just ended the last Islamic ruled dynasty in Iberia with peace treaty guaranteeing freedom of worship yet it was broken few years later starting the extreme inquisition age. Muhammad has no picture so we don't know how he looked like This Picture comes from the ottoman era and certainly it is not imagined Muhammad if I'm right the picture present Mimar Sinan Muhammad didn't conquer Arabia he just took over Mecca after its pagans were defeated in a long war lasted for 23 years Jihad Mean Struggle in Arabic it do not have Divine meaning the way it is in Catholic Christianity of holy war Struggle can be multifaceted from doing a school exam to fighting for your rights or for justice. Caliphate mean successor, leader, governmental. it was created after Muhammad's death by his companions. they created a republic where the first four leaders of it were elected by the early Muslim community and those were the ones who conquered Arabia, The Sassanid Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire. the Umayyads made a coup later against the republic and took over the power and made from it a dynasty. Umayyads is name of a tribe. The reason for some of the shadowy parts of the current building is not the engineering itself but the Christian priests who wanted to darkened the mosque as much by removing its original doors as much to darkened its rooms so the mid built church can be filled with light to overshadow the rest of the mosque
@beausu5823 Жыл бұрын
@@starcapture3040 I said, Umayyad's Conquest of *Hispania.* Was the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula and its provinces. Then Visigoths arrived and it composed kingdoms, dukedoms and principalities who were Christians. So I didn't claim that there was a unified Spain at that time. But yeah Reconquista is the historical term used to describe the military campaigns that Christian kingdoms waged from the 8th century until 1492, in order to retake the Iberian territories which were lost due to the Umayyad conquest of Hispania. From your own admission and history the Arab conquerors were also foreigners of the land. The treaty of Granada was followed, blamed that to the Moriscos who were collaborating with the Barbary Pirates and they were basically traitors and threats. So the role of the Inquisition is to Inquire and to investigate against the enemies of the kingdom. The current purpose of the site is a Church. it should function as a Church. If they needed more light in the mid Cathedral we can do so.
