Good review. This is exactly what I also experienced. Well, in my opinion when a historical movie is taken with so much of investment, it should have been taken in 2 different parts or even 3, in order to showcast the dept of each chatacror's one by one, just as how Bahubali was taken. അങ്ങനെ ആയിരുന്നു ഈ പടം എടുത്തിരുന്നു എന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ ഞാൻ അടക്കം ഉള്ള പ്രേക്ഷകർ ഇത്രേം നിരാശപ്പെടില്ലായിരുന്നു. ഇതിൽ ഒരു "wow" factor എന്ന് പറയാൻ പോലും ഒരു scene കണ്ടില്ല. എല്ലാം ഓടിച്ചിട്ട് എത്തിച്ചു. This disappointed me. ഇതുപോലെ ഒരു big budget സിനിമ ആവുമ്പോൾ അതും with so many top super mega starts, obviously പ്രേക്ഷകർക്ക് ഒരുപാട് expectation ഉണ്ടാകും, which they failed to meet. It's just a one time watch movie that's all.

പടം ഇറങ്ങി ഒരാഴ്ച ആകുന്നു, ഇതിനിടയിൽ ഒരു നൂറായിരം reviewകൾ കണ്ടു, പല commentukal കണ്ടു. ഇന്നാണ് എനിക്ക് തീയറ്ററിൽ പോയി സിനിമ കാണുവാൻ അവസരം ലഭിച്ചത്,ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ മനസ്സിലായി കാണുമല്ലോ സിനിമ ഏതാണെന്നു. അതേ പറഞ്ഞു വന്നത് മരക്കാറെ പറ്റി തന്നെ ആണ്,,,,, ഈ സിനിമ ഇത്രയേറെ പോസ്റ്മോർട്ടത്തിനും, ഡിഗ്രേഡിങ്ങിനും വിധേയമായത് എന്തു കൊണ്ടാണെന്നു മനസ്സിലാകുന്നില്ല. ഒരു ക്ലീൻ മൂവി, ചരിത്രം വളച്ചൊടിക്കാതെ അതിനോട് പരമാവധി നീതി പുലർത്തി എടുത്ത ചിത്രം. എന്നിട്ടും ഇത്രയും വിമർശിക്കപെടുന്നത് കാണുമ്പോൾ സങ്കടം തോന്നും. *സിനിമയുടെ പോസിറ്റീവ് വശങ്ങൾ:* 1. പ്രിയന്റെ crafting തന്നെ ആണ് highlight, ഈ സിനിമക്ക് ശേഷം പ്രിയനെ സംവിധാനം പഠിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഒരുപാട് അഭിനവ ഹിച്ചിക്കോക്കുമാർ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അദ്ദേഹം വെറും 100 ദിവസം കൊണ്ടാണ് ഇത്രയും ക്വാളിറ്റിയിൽ ഈ ചിത്രം ഒരുകിയതെന്നു പറഞ്ഞാൽ വിശ്വാസം വരില്ല, അത്രക്ക് perfect making. ഇനി പ്രിയനെ വിമര്ശിക്കുവാൻ പോകുന്നതിന് മുൻപ് അവരൊക്കെ 2018ൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ അമീർഖാൻ ചിത്രമായ Tugs of Hindustan, ഒന്നു കാണുന്നത് നന്നായിരിക്കും ഏകദേശം 210 കോടി രൂപ ബഡ്ജറ്റിൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ ആ സിനിമ vfx ഉൾപ്പെടെ വൻ പരാജയം ആയിരുന്നു അവിടെയാണ് പ്രിയദർശൻ എന്ന സംവിധായകന്റെ കഴിവ് നമ്മൾ കാണേണ്ടത് . 2. Vfx- ഒന്നും പറയാനില്ല,,ഇന്റർവലിന് തൊട്ടു മുന്നേ ഉള്ള കടൽ യുദ്ധം കണ്ടാൽ അത് ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയിലെ സീൻ തന്നെ ആണൊന്നു സംശയിച്ചു പോകും . *Negatives.* എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയ ചില ന്യുനതകൾ; 1.കടൽ യുദ്ധം ഒരെണ്ണത്തിൽ മാത്രം ഒതുക്കി, 2ആം പകുതിയിൽ ഒരെണ്ണം കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ secondhalfile ആ slow പേസ് അത്രയും ഫീൽ ചെയില്ലാരുന്നു. 2.പാട്ടുകളുടെ എണ്ണകൂടുതൽ,1-2 പാട്ടുകൾ ഒഴിവാക്കാമായിരുന്നു. 3.casting കാസ്റ്റിംഗ് ഒരു ന്യുനത ആയി തോന്നി, പ്രഭു ഒരു അധികപറ്റു പോലെ ആണ് തോന്നിയത്. മാമുക്കോയ ഒക്കെ സിനിമയിൽ ആവശ്യമുണ്ടായിരുന്നോ എന്നു നമുക്കുംതോന്നിപോകും. വീണനന്ദകുമാർ-ഈ സിനിമയിൽ അവരെ പലരും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു പോലും കാണില്ല, ഒരു ജൂനിയർ artistനെ കൊണ്ടു ചെയ്യിക്കാവുന്ന റോൾ ആണ്, സുനിൽ ഷെട്ടി- അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ചെയ്യാൻ വേണ്ടി മാത്രം ഒന്നും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു, ആ റോൾ ചെയ്യാൻ സുരേഷ് കൃഷ്ണ പോലെ ഉള്ള ഓപ്ഷൻ മലയാളത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഉള്ളപ്പോൾ സുനിൽ ഷെട്ടിയുടെ കാര്യമില്ലായിരുന്നു., സിനിമയിൽ സുരേഷ്‌കൃഷ്ണ ചെയ്ത റോൾ സ്ഥിരം ചതിയന്മാരായ സാധിക്കിനെ കൊണ്ടോ സുധീർ കാരമനയെ കൊണ്ടോ ചെയ്യിക്കാമായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നസെന്റ്- കഥാപാത്രം ഏതായാലും ഇരിങ്ങാലക്കുട സ്ലാങ് must ആണ്, ഇന്നസെന്റിനു പകരം സുനിൽ സുഖദ ആയിരുന്നു ബെറ്റർ. *വാൽകഷ്ണം;* സിനിമ ഒരു ഗുഡ് entertainer ആണ്,തീയറ്ററിൽ തന്നെ ആസ്വദിക്കണം. ഫാന്സുകാർക്കും സിനിമ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടില്ല എന്നു പറയുന്നത് കേട്ടു., അവരോടു എനിക്ക് പറയാനുള്ളത് ഇതു ഫാന്സുകർക് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള മസാല ഫ്ലിക് അല്ല, ഇതിൽ മുരുകന്റെ സംഹാര താണ്ടവമോ,ഖുറേഷി അബ്രാമിന്റെ സ്റ്റൈലോ കാണില്ല. ഇതു കുഞ്ഞാലി ആണ്,ഇതു ഇങ്ങനെ ആണ്. ഭാവിയിൽ ഇതേ പോലെ ഉള്ള ക്വാളിറ്റി സിനിമകൾ മോളിവുഡിൽ ഉണ്ടാകട്ടെ. മിഥുൻ കൊട്ടാരക്കര

"ഒരു സിനിമയുടെ പിറകില്‍ ഒരുപാട് അധ്വാനമുണ്ട്. മുന്‍പ് നിരൂപകരാണ് സിനിമകളെ വിലയിരുത്തിയിരുന്നത്. ഇന്നിപ്പോള്‍ ആര്‍ക്കും എന്തും പറയാവുന്ന നിലയാണ്. ചിത്രങ്ങളെ ഡീഗ്രേഡ് ചെയ്യാനും ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ നടക്കുന്നു. ചലച്ചിത്ര വ്യവസായത്തിനെതിരായ കുറ്റകൃത്യമാണ് അത്. ഇത് ചെയ്യുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് യാതൊന്നും ഇതില്‍നിന്ന് ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഒരു സ്ക്രീനിന് പിറകിലിരുന്ന് ഒരാള്‍ ഒരു കമന്‍റ് ഇടുമ്പോള്‍, അത് ഒരു വ്യവസായത്തെയും അതിനെ ഉപജീവിക്കുന്ന ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് മനുഷ്യരെയുമാണ് ദോഷകരമായി ബാധിക്കുന്നത്. ഞാന്‍ പറയുന്നത് മരക്കാരെക്കുറിച്ച് മാത്രമല്ല. ഒരുപാട് ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്കെതിരെ ഇതുണ്ടായത് ഞാന്‍ കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. സൃഷ്‍ടിപരമായ വിമര്‍ശനത്തെ ഞങ്ങളും സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നു. പകരം ചലച്ചിത്രകലയുടെ ക്രാഫ്റ്റിനെക്കുറിച്ചോ, നിരൂപണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചോ ഒന്നുമറിയാത്ത ഒരാള്‍ മനസില്‍ തോന്നുന്നതൊക്കെ വിളിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞാല്‍ അത് തെറ്റാണ്. പുതുതലമുറയില്‍ ഈ പ്രവണത കൂടിതലാണ്‌--- മോഹൻലാൽ

മരക്കാർ സിനിമയിൽ കണ്ട positive - Excellent art work ( കൊട്ടാരം, കടൽ, യുദ്ധം) - Costumes - Cinematography - Movie color tone - കുറച്ചേ ഉള്ളതെങ്കിലും പ്രണവിൻ്റെ ആക്ഷൻ & emotional scene നല്ലതായിരുന്നു. - Actors at best performance : ഹരീഷ് പേരടി, സിദ്ദീഖ്, നെടുമുടി വേണു, അർജുൻ സർജ (വിനീതിൻ്റെ സൗണ്ട് അർജുന് match ആവതെ പോയപോലെ തോന്നി, but, അർജുൻ്റെ performance നല്ലതായിരുന്നു) Negative - Script - ചില casting - കൂടുതൽ ആളുകളുടെയും ആവറേജ് performance aanu തോന്നിയത് - ബാബുരാജ്, ഗണേഷ്, ബിനീഷ് കോടിയേരി, മുകേഷ്, ഇന്നസെൻ്റ്, മാമക്കോയ dialogue delivery & slang മോശം ( ഹിസ്റ്റോറിക്കൽ movie ആയോണ്ട് തോന്നിയതാവാം) പക്ഷേ, ഒരിക്കലും ഇതൊരു മോശം പടമല്ല. ഏത് പ്രേക്ഷകർക്കും ഫാമിലി ആയി കാണാൻ പറ്റിയ മികച്ച ഒരു visual treat aanu മരക്കാർ.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Well analysed. Two of the unnecessarily over hyped movies of Mohanlal has been a total disaster according to me because the director more than concentrating on the writing and screenplay have been focussing on other things. Odiyan was one of them and now Marakkar. Its just an OK film which need not have got so much publicity nor the director himself saying so much above that. Rather than Mohanlal he should have concentrated on the writing and screenplay. Malayalam films always stood out for its writing and salute to all those writers who used to carefully give scope and roles of impact to even small characters and actors, unlike any other industry where only stars have value. BUt here in the quest for making a grand film, Priyadarshan looks failed. The pace is also very slow. NO audience have time to get bored in theatre. All said, the film is good for its technicalities, VFX and craft. Even Mohanlal doesn't have a great performance and there doesn't seem a need to have taken Manju Warrier, Suneil Shetty etc. if they are not able to give them impactful characters. Its good to dream to have a big project and make a grand movie, but even Bahubali's writing was good. Director cannot just rely on star status and technicalities to make a good film to be hit. The film is not a must watch, but an OK watch especially for Mohanlal fans, nothing else.

Stating a movie classic doesn't hide or cover up the fact that writing was a let down and Priyadarshan didn't focus mainly on that. Taking big stars without making their roles impactful doesn't guarantee success. If Bahubali was not good in writing it would not be a big success.

I was reminded of the movie braveheart and troy many times while i watched marakkar. I mean that not in a good way. The famous speech of wallace that inspires the countrymen when they were afraid that they will fail and wanted not to fight, the supernatural rumours about wallace, the betrayal and attempted assasination of wallace which is spoiled by his crazy friend, the crazy friend himself, the cutthroat killing of wallaces wife by tge villain, the cutthroat killing of that villain by wallace, the final execution of wallace where he screams freedom and sees his dead wife, wallaces supporters in disguise watching his execution in tears,.... All these scenes are there in marakkar also, but very mildly altered. Now coming to troy. The killing of hector, the disgracing of hectors corpse, the king that is hectors father coming to achilles camp hiding to beg achilles to give him his sons body for ritualistic burial, the dialogue " even between enemies there can be respect".. All these are there in Marakkar also. This cant be an inspiration form these movies. If you have watched the movie braveheart and troy then you will definitely note these extremely striking similiarities. I dont know why people are not talking about these in any reviews or anywhere.

As a mohnalal fan പടം ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല. Direction ഒക്കെ വൻ ശോകം. Casting ഉം ശോകം ആരുന്നു. അത്രയും വലിയൊരു പടം ആയിട്ട് കൂടി ഒരു character ന് പോലും depth ഇല്ല. Even ലാലേട്ടന്റെ character ന് പോലും depth കൊടുത്തില്ല എന്ന് കാണുമ്പോൾ ആണ് ഏറ്റവും അത്ഭുതം 🥲.ഏറ്റവും നന്നായി fight ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രണവിന് ഒരു action രംഗം പോലും കൊടുത്തില്ല എന്നതൊക്കെ വലിയ മണ്ടത്തരം തന്നെയാണ്.എല്ലാരും over dramatic അഭിനയം ആരുന്നു. But technically മരക്കാർ പൊളി ആണ്. Vfx ഒക്കെ മാരകം 👌. But vfx മാത്രം കൊണ്ട് കാര്യം ഇല്ലല്ലോ. പ്രിയദർശൻ ഇപ്പോഴും 90 കളിൽ കിടക്കുവാണെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. കണ്ടു മടുത്ത, അടുത്തത് എന്ത് സംഭവിക്കും എന്ന് predict ചെയ്യാവുന്ന കുറെ ക്ളീഷേ scenes ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.മൊത്തത്തിൽ പടം ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല.

It was a good visual treat for a malayaali movie. But being a period movie it completely lacks attention to details. While we focus on glorification of character and making people hero we simply ignore other characters. To start with Portuguese were in the attire of 18th century British !! The public in general when marakkar is executed were in 20th century Irish costume. 😀. Poor homework and an injustice to history. Last bit, kerala rulers and public in general were not so overdressed in the century of marakkar. Kunjali himself looked like Moroccan from lion of desert. 😊

We really marvel at the output of Mammootty's effortless linguistic skills, but the fact is that, there is huge amount of hardwork and urge to deliver a masterpiece. Everyone understood this clearly. Ambedkar, pranchiyettan, rajamanikkam historic characters and many more, he learn it with a child's heart and hunger. There were proffessors masters in languages and even ppl with least Importance, whom mammootty used to learn from, this is bcz he RESPECT AUDIENCE AND VALUE THEM, we shd salute his attitude to deliver best to audience and give a wonderful experience. Don't compare with epics like Braveheart please those had more soul and thrill than this movie Marakkar is really boringly slowed paced No character depth in a 3 hour movie Most scenes feels like made to include certain actors Language spoken is not suitable to the period in which it is talking You can go saying it's emotional classic movie but it's no where near that Emotional scenes are there but audience are not getting that feel Even pazhassi raja had more engaging story Complete failure in terms of direction, story and editing Only good point is on costumes, technical side and vfx (which is not great but mollywood hasnt seen any good ones so that is okay one)
