Your Rage of Dragons analysis was great! I DNFd it because it was pretty much 95% fighting. Fight in a battle, fight while training for battle, fight in a competition to see who will be best in battle. With only 5% non-fighting, how can you get to know the characters enough to care? And now I'm glad I quit before that romance got started. And the bathwater. LOL

omg there are soooo many good ones. lots of different styles (magic/ non magic, gentry/working class, high/low plot-to-romance ratio). She's the master of queer historical romance IMO (though KJC is mostly MM so maybe tied with Olivia Waite)

Omg so mind-blowing to see you talk about fifth season again i finished it just yesterday and it's such a Masterpiece. The beginning is rly like punchy and i love it esp the second person because it's very unexpected and like stylish. I absolutely loved it even doe it was an act of emotional terrorism. But i do wanna say one thing which i'm hoping makes sense to you. Remember like around 3 quarters in when redacted is having a good time and then they fix that big mistake that happened years back and they see the person in burgundy on the horizon? I remember i had stopped reading the story then bc i was like noooo.... Let them rest. Let them know peace they been through enough already! And like through the book you *know* all the shit that was going on and you understood the depth and horror of the consequences to come and the stakes were so high bc like u were just prepared for the worst case scenario and i didn't wanna read that. I just think that NK is just so amazing for having done that because what happened next and how it resolved itself felt very kind and not brutal, it felt fair and it felt like kindness. When in reality it was still very fucked up. I love that a lot. It's like writing excellence. Also i want to read obelisk gate but I'm gonna take a break from that to like. Read less heavy stuff and write a bit. But I'm reading PET now which is about how this black trans girl accidentally summons a creature called pet and how they join in a hunt for monsters. It's rly cute and i love it a lot.

📚 in March I finished Robin Hobbs Farseer trilogy. Not sure if I liked it. It was interesting but a little too dry for my taste. I mostly got into because I saw cute fanart and I wanted to know if there was actually queer characters or if it was just fans being fans. The answer is some definite queer coding but nothing really confirmed (yet). Going to keep reading the books in this world. I've grown attached to the characters and the world is interesting. Even if I don't particularly like the writing style this is still a pretty casual book I can listen to on my drive to work.
