"for kids" -"I was created here, I don't know if there's a place for me on Earth" -Maria grabbing his hand and him immediately getting a PTSD flashback -intricately choreographed and fantastically animated fight scene -second half is akin to a horror movie -shows the firing squad that executed Gerald -Gerald flashing back further and further from Shadow symbolizing (in my personal opinion) his guilt -reliving Shadow's past trauma as a PTSD nightmare, waking up in the same way someone with PTSD would -Symbolic depiction of Maria getting shot in the heart (the shattered glass form the shape of a heart too btw) for kids btw

I really dislike the idea that media for kids somehow can't include dark subject matter. The latest Digimon film had a realistic depiction of child abuse. You can discuss mature subject matter in child-friendly ways, and in fact I'd argue it's important for kids' media to be willing to do so.

"For kids" doesn't mean "For idiots" Contrary to popular opinion, kids aren't stupid, and can take serious, emotional, complex, heartfelt and dark stories. Something this series of shorts understood, but something that was ignored by the movies. A good "Kids movie" is a movie for everyone, that doesn't talk down to kids
