So far I've only encountered Eves in my dreams, and the contents have led me to focus on allowing the intimacy of eye contact, improving my self love, and seeing others (especially girls) as they are without idealizing. Maybe if I work on those things, the dream contents will change and involve later anima stages. Maybe this is all bunk, but Jung is sort of my last frontier after engaging with all other esoterica. Striking out on my own.

I do not dream, nor when I meditate visual images pop up. While psychoanalytic views have changed me, so I don't see how active imagination applies to me. How can this concept apply to me?

I think you are on to something those interested in this comment about a grain of salt. More completely, Von Franz is taking us through the four cycles and as she mentioned that on the third stage of Mary there was missing this dark side which was then integrated in the conception of Sophia. The grain of salt is the memory (salt as preserving) of our loved ones through bodily desires which will make one long for her. Thus, the answer to the question requires a more intimate answer. This longing brings the negative side also as a "devouring mother". So full cycle; Sophia is an integration of all four conceptions of the anima as a relating function to a beautiful, compassionate, holy and wise woman. You can also hear that the interviewer asks with a smile but you cannot see it. They both laugh from the question if you listen so they know that it refers to the more subtle subject of Eve. Yes, in that moment she meant sex. And sex is “real”, it’s earthy, it’s “dirty” in a good sense (smile). I once met a woman who was beautiful, but I thought to my self “she has no salt”. What I felt was that she was not interesting, she was not complex, she did not have “perks” that would invite us to a deeper dive. She was one-dimensional, she was a fake Mary.

"I won't say" haha. I think Von Franz implies that perfect love is not perfect. There is a paradox. In other words, to love yourself or others you must accept their dark side. That is true romance, and that is what we mean by unconditional love.

That last stage of the anima.... intriguing to say the least!!! Can't find anything searching online to expand on Von Franz's "grain of salt". Deeply curious. Be sure to post more on this if you find anything! Much obliged .

Eh, with things like that you can go by through metaphors. Something that is seasoned is experienced, often using salt for food or fire and oil for pans. Loving often involves heartbreak from your delusions or nostalgia and due to tragedy, tyranny and wrong doing; and living humanly involves tears in many forms: joy, pain or laughter. So the highest form of love is a seasoned heart that is human and says yes to life with all it's pain and joy.

@@gabrielorville5334 I like this interpretation. Saying yes to life with all its pain and joy, which is certainly part of the process of becoming conscious/becoming who you are. Enduring the pain/discomfort of your delusions/unconsciousness being exposed and brought to light.

I noted her comments about men needing the ability to love and relate to women but also the wisdom '' that protects him from their devouring side .'' Jordan Peterson has spoken of the Devouring Mother as the toxic in feminine psychology , pointing to the way it will strip individuals of their resilience and efficacy. He gets branded a misogynist for saying it, but here is a famous female psychoanalyst endorsing the very same concept.

Sure, women have a "devouring side" and men are so very spiritual. It must be those evil, devouring women making men commit all those homicides and SAs.

Anybody mind explaining the line “the highest form of love is something with a grain of salt in it”?
@gaelntore47584 жыл бұрын
The way I see it....You dont always get along with loved ones but you always show up when they are in serious need, even when they get on your nerves... you're able to swallow your pride for their love... its vulnerable and can sometimes be humiliating ... But they are worth it only if they do the same for you I hope this helps
