US admiral Robert Harward praised the Norwegian commandos contributions in the first major ground deployment in the War in Afghanistan; " I can attest to the fact that the Norwegian special operators were absolutely critical to the success of our operations. They came to the fight with specialized skill sets for operating in mountain and arctic climates that enabled the survival and effectiveness of the entire coalition of special operators. Just as important, was the planning and staff experience the Norwegian SOF proved to the operational expertise of the entire Task Force effort. As a direct result of their partnership, our unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, the highest honor the United States bestows on a military unit for which President George W. Bush personally delivered the award"

If you are looking to visit Scandinavia I'm inclined to say, as a Swede, do Norway first. The Fjords are unbelievable. Even looking at them on video is dream like, but nothing compared to being there. I go hiking in Norway every year during my vacation. With that said Sweden has amazing nature too. The deep woods, archipelago, the mountainous regions along our border and of course the river systems up north and inland.

As a Norwegian I would say do Sweden first. Get into the Scandinavian nature, the deep woods etc And then do Norway. A lot of Norway looks like Sweden, but once you get into the Northern and Western fjord region, it is "you think you have seen nice nature? Hold by beer" territory. I say this as a Norwegian in Oslo, even I was shocked the first time I visited the best fjord regions, I had seen them on pictures and on tv all my life, I thought I knew what I was about to see. But it is so majestic and insane.

Hello, and thank you for showing what it's like to be in the various special units that are in my home country of Norway. Saw in one of your videos that you wondered if it was a General because he had 3 stars on his uniform. It means in Norway that he is Captain and 2 stars means Lieutenant. Thanks again for great contributions and comments. Greetings, a former gene hunter who was on the border between Norway and the Soviet Union.

@DaOneJoel. I have not finished watching the video yet but I concur with your assessment. At around forty, that's amazing. Very fit. And as a Canadian, I can tell you that many years ago, the Canadian government started to shame Canadians to get healthier by informing them that the average Swede at sixty was healthier than the average Canadian at thirty. The campaign worked. Here's to the Nordic culture!

Just a small correction. The floor during the sprint exercise is grippy. It is a little elastic to offer more grip for indoor ball sports like unihockey, handball, volleyball, etc. it is also good for avoiding slidmarks when you fall, or break your fall a little should you land on your hip for instance.

That part with the saw kinda triggered me cause boarding a ship on a ladder like this while moving and rocking back and forth creates so much failure points compared to just attaching a line to a nice secure peli case, get on board and then just pull it up. Wont get it wet, wont brake it and probably twice as fast. Ive done quite a few storm ladder boardings, no gear, no safety, off a rib in open sea. Not easy going 30 feet. But good for him, really tough dude.

You, Magnus and Ryan Forrest (aka British Marine) should try and get some collabs together for military stuff like this. Trying to set up something similar in the US, the UK and Norway. Eksampel: Magnus and Ryan visits you in the US and you try various military fitness challenges, preferably in collaberation with various military units if possible, and vice versa! Hell, you three could do it all on a kind of global scale. Trying to set up something like this with various military units around the world. Like the Korean Englishman channel posted "British Twins go training with Korean Army Commandos". That's content I don't think anyone else is doing on that scale, but that's content I'd easily consume!

If they're modded it was most likely done by the company "Arctic Trucks" (originally Icelandic, then expanded to Norway and then to the US and beyond after that) which specializes in that kind of stuff and is probably one of the best in the world, they did the modded Toyota Hilux for Top Gear that went to the North Pole and also a 6-wheel modded Toyota for an expedition to the south pole.

@gearoidosullivan356
@gearoidosullivan356 Жыл бұрын
From doing decent level sports stuff when I was younger i'd like to think I could've managed several of those tests ok with a bit of prep, but i'd probably fail the weighted chin ups. :) I'd love to try the boat stuff though. Although I only ever got my rescue diver certification, I have done hundreds of dives, mostly in cold water for scientific survey work, and always in wet suits (which is not fun in winter). I did fieldwork in 6 °C water (approx 43°F) in winter , both in Ireland and in New Zealand and the cold shock on your face is not fun. Which is why I was surprised that his face was totally exposed for the swim. I thought they would've put a mask on (once in the water) both to protect the eyes and keeps the face warmer. They look like they are wearing dry suits though, or some type of survival suit. Swimming is one thing I wouldn't mess around with though, because if you start to struggle at all in the water, either through panic or bad technique, it just saps all of your energy, and you'd be useless for the next test. It's so important to get people to be comfortable in the water.
@brokenselena
@brokenselena Жыл бұрын
Never underestimate water, I've taken so many of my friends with way better endurance than I got swimming, that couldnt even keep up with me for 5 minutes. And that was in a nicely heated pool in swim wear. It's crazy for me how much just slightly colder water can decrease my endurance and my entire body telling me fuck you no second longer, I dont wanna imagine having to do work in 6°C water.

the running brings back memories of suicide drills we used to do for basketball. I will say tho, these runs are nothing compared to what we had to do for soccer training. They were called Indian runs at the time. Not sure if the name was canceled or changed at any point but we did it with two lines parallel with one another, run laps at 75% speed. On whistle, furthest back must sprint to the front. You can't imagine how tired you become from doing something like that for over 10mins. Another drill I did for Soccer that completely destroyed me was, coach in middle circle with ball. Rulles are simple, ball can never cross the circle. The catch is, you can't change directions, so if the ball is heading behind you, you gotta sprint your ass off around that circle and reach a few feet before where you originally were to keep the ball in. Then you pass back and run run run run! Best shape i've ever been in my entire life. Should be noted, these drills will cause inexperienced participants to throw up so be ready for that. Even tho i was captain of my soccer team and the one known as the runner or the machine i also got growing up, i had to let it out after doing that circle drill for 2 mins.

I am surprised that the ladder climb was not on a floating vessel where the movement of a boat would be simulated. By vessel I mean a moored vessel but in "open" water. Perhaps that would make it an easier climb in some ways? If you know how to use the vessel's motion.

He was told when to grab onto the ladder to simulate grabbing on on the top of the wave, but this test was to ensure he wouldn't be squished doing the real thing. If they did their dry runs on an actual boat, there would be injuries and possibly deaths.

@oddjobkia
@oddjobkia Жыл бұрын
@@boogaloo4640 Yes I am aware of him, and his immense fitness and achievements that I could never dream of doing. However I think you missed my point. The soldiers across the world when they do these assessments, have not had the chance to sleep 8 hours a night for the last few months, they have not had the chance to have eaten a perfect diet, attend massages etc. If you listen to ex or current serving elite personal they will often say, many people who were fitter did not pass, it is the robustness that they lack, the desire to carry on when wet and cold for days or weeks at the time. almost 30 years ago I passed the PRMC but got injured at home a week or so later playing rugby, (almost two years rehab) it put an end to even trying to get any further, truthfully now I don't believe I would have passed, I was very fit at the time, but I understand now I was not as robust as they needed. Fitness and robustness are very different. Im sure you notice the difference in your own daily life when you don't get as much sleep as normal how it affects you. I also understand that this is impossible to recreate. I am not saying Magnus is incapable of achieving the goal, my point was that these are entertaining but can not be true to life, even the chatting about each exercise before and after gives a morale boost that recruits don't get, every little thing helps.
