That was another cool video. I thought of a fun fact related to a comment you made on the video. In Finland civilian K9 police officers actually also keep their dogs at their homes as pets. When they are off duty the dogs live with the handler at home and when the dog retires, they stay with the handler to enjoy retirement.

In Sweden too. My friends neighbour was a K9 police. Both his dogs were at home with him, his active and retired dog. Really nice dogs that knew when they were off duty and on the job. They both were experts at finding things :)

My great grandmother was boss over those traffic specialized military people during WW2 and she invented almost all the traffic signs that we have in Sweden today, some have changed and many was adopted by most countrys in the world :)

The bent bill cap is because you store the cap in a pocket when inside. And you will get yelled at if the cap looks like smushed crap, so you learn to fold it in a specific way. There is probably a few variants, and some people exaggerate the sharpness of the bill as a fashion statement.

Actually in the last part they show part time MP:s. That’s actually is civilian polis so they are experienced police officers and know the rules and tactics. That make them better MP’s and know both world.

I think there were three platoons of regular employees and one platoon of MP Rangers. The regular military police learned to ride horses for parade purposes while we had the German shepherds to chase down foreign invaders... Already subscribing, but liking! Obviously... / 👊🇸🇪⚔️

I'm not sure how this is everywhere but I know for a fact that all the dogs in my unit are brought home at the end of the day. I'm pretty sure this is the same in the Police here as well. They are pets AND working dogs in that sense. Some dogs are acquired and owned by the Army. These would generally be given back and to a new handler if you leave the service. Others use their private dog (approved and trained in the same way as the other dogs) as a service dog and it would naturally come with you if you quit.

@Combat Arms Channel This is the MP police k9. They are trained to be a jack of all trades, able to track and differentiate between explosives narcotics etc. The other dogs are the ones used by counter-spec ops/recon units. Those are almost pure bloodhounds tracking people. Handler and dog have an extremely loving relationship but those dogs are absolute beasts if you´re someone else. After working together with those dogs, they´ll eventually get used to you and treat you like a friend more or less but they have a strong sense of duty and will only approach you with good intentions when not in duty. I suppose this is different to how you guys do it considering you said the relationship is strictly professional and you can´t bring the dogs home. Swedish handlers do but they need to be very observant of the dogs behaviour.

You should try and react to the special forces selection for the Danish Maritime special forces, called the Frogmen. They are basically the Danish equivalent of the US Navy seals and have worked together with them many times.

I did my military service as a k9 handler for MPJ, that is the anti sabotage unit of the military police. Our targets were the speznas and similar units, preventing them from doing strikes at infrastructures. We had none of the traditional police duties as crime scenes and things like that. Our dogs were amazing.. the special forces units we trained against had no chance what so ever to get away :D .. and yes they still use the KSP58 .. that heavy machinegun is awesome eventhough its over 60 years old..

If you do visit Sweden, I recommend trying to have a travel plan within the country. Going from south to north. Or simply researching which area you find the most interesting. This is because; The *landscape* and *climate* obviously differs A LOT. The different regions within the country has focused and specialised in *different necessities* within the military.

You should do a video about swedish Coastal Rangers (navy seals/marine recon unit) The video is called Blod, svett och bajs, or just Kustjägare. It means blood, sweat and poop and is about the rangers training in the 90’s conducting marine asssults and sabotage behinde enemy lines

Swedish MP has also had anti sabotage and vip protection duities for a long time. But as late as the 90ies there was also an MP unit called MP rangers as far as I remember. Not sure if it still exists something similar. The MP rangers were supposed to hunt and track down the enemies special forces, for example spetznaz targeting important swedish installations in the very beginning of an assault on Sweden.

I don't know how it's with the Swedish military police, but one of the tasks of the Finnish MPs is to hunt down hostile SF teams/groups. But I would imagine the Swedish MPs do the same.

Kari Tuominen - I was in an MP subdivision called MP Rangers (militärpolisjägare) back in 01/02 and we had exclusively those tasks.. no traffic duty et c. Strictly chasing foreign SF’s with German shepherds and fairly heavy weaponry and prioritized gear..

Militärpolis Jägare no longer exists,it is now called MP UND/SÄK ( Intelligence/Security). But as you said,they are specifically devoted to tracking and eliminating enemy commando and SF units with a recon element and a more heavily armed assault element. The name may have changed,but the game remains the same.. i do feel that since they recieve Jägare/Jaeger training,it would have been more fair and honourable to allow them to keep the name and the badge, but then again im just a civilian, and the swedish military is not always known for having the most supportive ( actually never for decaddes ) politicians, but they serve with honour and provide a great force. As a commander of the combined special operations assets and units of Sweden once said: "Even a qualified oppononent will have to plan for,and be ready to, deal with swedish specieal forces,commandos and counter SF anywhere,anytime,all the time".

I would love to have heard about how it works with the judicial system in the military. If someone commit a crime while in service is that automatically always delt with by the military police and become a case for a military court - or does it depend on what kind of crime we're talking about. I understand that if someone commit a war crime against civilians in a war in another country it become a case for the military judicial system, but let's say someone murder a fellow solider on a base inside their own country. Feels like it's then the military police investigating, but not necessarily the military court dealing with deciding the punishment but rather an ordinary court. I understand if this is a huge and complicated system but a few words about it would have been interesting to hear about.

As a former Swedish MP I can say that it depends on where the crime is committed more than wether it concerns military personnel. An offence committed outside of a military area by an actively serving soldier will not be handled by the military police. Vice versa a crime on military areas committed by a civilian will be investigated by the military police. We do not apply military courts at all, they don't exist. Meaning that cases handled by MPs will still be processed by the regular judicial system.

My brother did his military service as a MP Dog handler. I was supposed to also do my service as a MP but when they got to testing my hearing it turned out I had frequencies I couldn't hear well so I got moved to a more basic service instead. For a while we shared an apartment so we often trained with the dog together, it was such a fantastic and intelligent dog.

My brother did it as well. I always wanted to be at Boden as Jägare. But due to hearing and visual requirements they relieved me of service due to medical reasons. I eventually ended up in the HV as a driver of the bandwagon (Hägglunds Bandvagn 206). I did five years.

@@swedMP No, I was selected as MP as my aptitude tests fit that role, but had to see a doctor again about what was up with my hearing. After that I simply got re-assigned as my issue wasn't temporary. This was 1993 (if I recall right) so it was some time ago now.

@@swedMP they do a pre-check medical eveluation known as mönstring. They will check your basic health, stamina, strenght and your logical thinking. Based on results and your personal goals they will place in the branch and role they deem you most qualified for. Or in my case, write me off.

There’s a counter-sf/insurgency/intelligence/espionage unit for the army and one for the navy (blue and green water ops) that have military police capabilities. One is Säkkomp Mark (Army), previously known as Militärpolisjägarna. The other is Säkkomp Sjö (Navy), previously known as Marinbasjägarna or Flottans Bassäk. These are hybrid units with jägar requirements that are capable of direct action and recon.

Pretty sure they don't have MP "capabilities", and I know for a fact that the airforce version (FBS) doesn't, even though they have the same tasks. They are "skyddsvakter" and have to follow certain regulations, unlike MP who have more power when handling criminals and whatnot

Undead Djingis Well I know for a fact that the majority of the soldiers employed by Säkerhetskompani Sjö and Säkerhetskompani Mark are also trained military police. Teachers are provided by RPS and some of the same teachers also serve as part timers (GSST) with the units. The flygbassäk differs a bit from these two other units. That’s because the 13.Säkbat has a small (yet capable) unit in the air force.

Some of the more heavily armed and kitted out members you see in the video may be members of what in my time was known as the Military Police Jaegers(Jägare) , A counter special forces company divided into an intelligence element and a more heavily armed security element to track and eliminate better trained enemy commando or special forces teams. I think now they just go under the umbrella term MP UND/SÄK ( MP INT/SEC in english).

In Sweden it is actually endorsed that the handlers bring their dogs home. The more time the handler and dog spends together the better. The dogs needs to change environment and its a win-win situation for us to let the handlers bring out the dogs into civilian environment. In my platoon 8 out of 9 dog handlers got to keep their dogs after finishing their training. During the entire year of training they were endorsed to take their dogs home on the weekends when we were on leave. Your point that there should be an advantage when it comes to disciplin between handler and dogs by not taking the dog outside into civvie-street is utterly wrong.

The dogs are pets to! In Sweden, all dogs in public service, such as military dogs, police dogs, customs dogs, airport security dogs etc etc live at home with their handlers while in service. All of them! So after working hours, the dog is a family pet. When the dog gets retired, the handler can choose to keep it purely as a pet (usually this comes down to whether the new working dog and the retired dog get along or not). If they decline the retired dog is adopted out to another family where they live out their golden years, as a family pet. I see some other ppl have left similar comments. Just wanted to make this clear. These dogs are well trained and know when it is work-time, and when it is time to be a family pet. They work perfectly as family dogs. Perfectly 💖 You making that comment made me curious though. How are these types of dogs kept in the US?

Me being a civilian and not really knowing what MP's do, can be really confusing. I used to live in a city named Eksjö here in Sweden. And was aware of some international training exercise due to all these military personnel with different uniforms. Id usually see these foreign soldiers shop at this local grocery store and at one point saw 2 MP's still with all their gear, pistol and all entering the same store. Being a civilian i don't know when an MP is over stepping. And could be scary for those that don't know any better. I mean i don't mind someone with a firearm walking about but... like i said there is people who don't know any better.

Det är egentligen väldigt enkelt. De förhåller sig till exakt samma regler som vanlig polis. De kan ha vissa disciplinära befogenheter men dessa gäller endast mot militär pliktpersonal, till vardags i fredstid så gäller det alltså endast värnpliktiga. Annars är dem som vilken polis som helst. MP agerar inte heller utanför det militära området så du behöver inte tänka så mycket på det alla egentligen.

Having lived in various places across the country I'd personally recommend visiting different regions in different seasons. I would recommend the Southern parts during spring, the Northern/Mountainous parts during winter, and the coastal parts during summer. The south has gray and rainy falls and winters that are quite boring but become very green and lush in late spring, the north has Auroras and lots of ski resorts during winter if that's your thing but the further north you go the less summers will actually feel like summer (although you will get to see the midnight sun which can be an awesome experience). Most of the Swedish inland can get pretty dry during heatwaves in summertime, but the coasts remain humid, lush and temperate throughout. If you're primarily going as an urban tourist to the major cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö (possibly taking the train from there across the strait to Copenhagen) and possibly hoping to enjoy nice weather at the outdoor seating areas of various restaurants, then I would strongly suggest going in summertime rather than spring, because Scandinavian springs are not as warm as the US ones and many places only open their outdoor areas in June through August.

Half military and half police is called Gendarmerie in many european countries. The US has laws forbidding military force agsinst US citizens within the US. MPs have the authorty of the police to keep order on military property. A friend of mine was an MP in the Marines in Iraq. By the sounds of it, their role there was a lot of near-the-base security patrols. He says he was a machine gunner in the top of a humvee. The Gendarmerie in europe i guess act sort of like the coast guard does in US waters. They are the police in rural areas, as an extension of the government, but can also be organized (historically) as light cavalry, light infantry, or scouts as an already mobilised first response force. I suppose that would be handy in 1800's Europe. The Germans even had several types of MPs in ww2. One was like US MPs, small units that kept order behind the lines, directed traffic, provided detail sdcurity. The others were field-hunters who were not exactly front line. They were occupiers, the ones who held conquored territory behind the front, the ones that captured deserters, and occasionally the ones who supressed breakthroughs in the lines and supressed uprisings. In Denmark the police are organized under the federal military authority. It's like they have an army, a navy, the regular police, and the volunteer reserve. Ther reserve is like a state defense force in the US. No weapons, no authorized use of force. They get called out to direct traffic at large events, respond to natural disasters, search for missing persons, etc. Most of them I think are vetrans from another service who want to still help. The blended military/police model is very intetesting to me because it is absent in the US. The closest we have is the coast guard, where a sailor who goes through boot camp could find themselves dropping depth charges on U-boats or ticketing a guy for having too many beers and sailing into the yacht clubhouse on Lake Erie. AFAIK there is no other uniformed service in the US that has authority like theirs to be military and federal law enforcement at the same time. Many european countries don't care about separating the military from the civil authority. I think it's Marselles France where the local fire service is a detatchment of the navy, because long ago the fleet partially burned down along with most of the city.
