Marines reunite with their beloved service dogs

With the help of American Humane, two Marines are reunited with their service dogs after a long journey from Okinawa, Japan, to Texas.

They are Belgium Malinois similar to German Shepards but quite smarter and energetic and dedicated!!! so good to hear this as before Service dogs were "left behind" to God knows what, so so glad to hear this time they did the right thing!!

I simply cannot imagine what it feels like for the handler or his dog when they are forced to separate. Especially I can’t imagine how heartbroken the dog must feel! Coz the dog cannot understand all this protocols and reasons for the separation.

@CBS Mornings, the dogs in the story are retired “military dogs” - “service dogs” are task trained to mitigate disabilities and are considered medical equipment by law (like wheelchairs or canes), according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Let’s not confuse terminology that leads to public confusion. I’m a disabled service dog handler and am extremely versed in the differences between the titles for a variety of working dogs like military and police K9’s, as well as the differences between task trained service dogs, emotional support dogs, and therapy dogs. I’m often suffer the consequences of people confusing terms and/or not being familiar with public access laws, often because the media says the wrong thing. @CBS Mornings, please edit and do research on the terms used to refer to a variety of working dogs. It’s a great story, but people like me suffer the consequences when the media incorrectly use the term service dog to refer to Military K9’s.
