What a trip down memory lane to see this map in detail again, and yet, I never once set foot in it in game. It was journeyed vicariously through Colin's unexpected and biggest video ever made. I only wish he could see what everyone's done in his name in all these years. Great video, and kudos to the map maker for adding Kitty0706 into what's essentially become a time capsule and hall of fame all at once!

I remember playing on this map and it's edits so much back in 2013-2015 TF2 I'm not sure what was an edit and what was in the original, but I remember the underwater cave leading to a secret frog mansion & a control point in the skies above requiring 8 or so stickyjumper stickybombs to get which, on capture, gave everyone on the enemy team aids. (bleeding to death) It's also the first map I had a really good sniper game on to the point someone complimented me saying "Demopan you're the kind of guy who headshots and dominates everybody then switches to the other team so they can dominate the entire server"; demopan being my name at the time It's also the same map I got first scammed on though, just a few ref, but still a memorable experience
@Indaryn2 жыл бұрын
I remember that CP in the skies!! Played on 100% crit servers running this map and other variants, sometimes dominated as Sniper enough to be called a hacker. 9 out of 10 times the admins would open the pron box so I would build a teleporter in there to send confused players. One had a secret gate through the back of a cube cliff near the BLU spawn that would send you to a hilly green area in which you could glitch into one of the hills and build a sentry to kill everyone who ventured in there.
@gabbo71013 жыл бұрын
God, its crazy to think the version of the map I grew up playing was an edit. The cat busses were flying, the thwamps killed you, the portal porn room didnt exist, the music players didnt work, the cars move automatically when your in them, blue soawn seems different, there were slightly different memes, more secrets, you cant spawn outside the base, etc etc. Thats the version I knew for my whole life, never knew that was an unofficial edit.

The map was made initially for a 4chan /v/ server that Xenon was part of in the late 2000's. It pretty much is 4chan's SFW content in a nutshell - specifically /b/ - back in 2007. I remember when it was made, roughly a month before TF2 came out, initially made for CSS. Also; Xenon loved No More Heroes which came out around that time. That's why there a lot of images of it and why maps like Cyberpunk include it as a startup music.

The clouds were the worst place to snipe from because once you got killed by one, you knew the guy was up there and it was just a matter of leaving spawn, hiding and waiting him to pop out and quickly dispose of him hehehe Then he called me a hacker, good times!

Whether you were blasting through the spawn killer gates, having a shootout in the dance club, running trades, or simply platforming the background geography while dodging Snipers, MARIO_KART was such a cozy time. I still flashback to taking my laptop to meet with friends every other weekend, load up a server, and the group of us would rotate playing and backseating; we'd easily lose 4 hours in a session sitting & laughing at good kills, random deaths, even just running around exploring. Kitty's video brought back some nostalgia, and this video in particular got me looking back on everything with a smile. Good days, simpler days.
@tostie31102 жыл бұрын
I hung out on this one alot. Specifically a version with the pipes leading to hidden areas, and there being a room floating up in the map that could only be entered from the bottom with low gravity or grapples. The catbuses would fly through the sky instead, and the racecars would start driving when your feet were touching the inside floor
@Indaryn2 жыл бұрын
I remember that one, on 100% crit, infinite ammo servers Heavies would stay at the bus door to shoot people from up there. That and some Snipers too would try to camp the bus but the movement was so janky and stuttery that it was hard to aim properly from in there. Only advantage is that you were extremely hard to kill from the ground hehe

Kitty0706's magnum opus, Team Fabolous 2 definitely ensured that map remains unforgettable for both Gmod and TF2 communities. That map really embodies the early days of TF2 modding community. Bizzare, janky, borderline low-effort but good enough for players to enjoy them.

I have a long story to tell about a Mario Kart server's downfall. Once upon a time, there was a Mario Kart server, both day and night versions of it, there, a couple of people, mostly meme players, friendlies, tryhards, common people, you get it. All of them belonged to a community known as the "MSG" community, back then there was a ton of activity and such, fun times and memories still loom in my head, remembering the good times I had with that server. I was just your average 10 year old gamer playing around in 2013, we met up and thought to ourselves that we were pretty good friends I was young and naive, most of them were young or old, I met up with a few friends from the Mario Kart server, played around and had ourselves a time. We eventually got the whole entire server more than once, at peace with our taunts. As the years passed, me and my friends got pretty good at the game, sometimes playing with each other and against each other on opposing teams. The whole server would watch us during duels, or didn't really care, it was in between. It felt like memories were formed back then, everybody was happy, I was happy. That was, until the activity of the server started dying out. 2014 happened, the server's activity was dying down, not much people were invested into playing the server anymore . A few of my friends were still playing there, even though there were only few people on the server left. One by one, a few figures I once knew started to leave and never return to the server again. I still clinged onto that Mario Kart Server, remaining alone with my friends, until...they started losing interest in 2015, I still was playing with people, until those people left as well. I witnessed a server, a small community, slowly dying from my own eyes. When there was little to no activity, I stood in the server, wandering around, hoping that somebody would join the server, it really did feel like a ghost town. The community leader that owned the server with monthly payment (I think), decided to do the unthinkable and regrettable action of pulling the plug from the Mario Kart Server. All of those hours of hoping people would return, never once looked back to it, and decided to move on. As everybody moved on, eventually I did too. I doubt anyone from the server is watching this video, but if you are, I just want you to know I miss you guys.

I remember playing on this map for as long as I've played tf2. given, I started pretty late compared to many but I was able to make great memories on the map. one of my favorites includes a full friendly server where everyone raced around the track as heavies. I remember one guy telling everyone to check for spies and I always thought it was cause spies moved faster even when disguised. now, most mario kart servers are dead as hell, but that makes it the perfect place for me and my friends to dick around. usually we'll do it while queuing for something or just for the sake of it and sometimes a good amount of people will join, almost recreating the full server experience. I'm grateful for this map because it's allowed me to make great memories and continues to do so to this day.

I remember going to the jetpack server of this map always being backstabbed by jetpack spies while engis would barricade the music room with sentries and pyros spy checking anyone who enters. I also remember BLU snipers would camp far front from Red base spawn too.

Are we ever going to get another community-style experience like this?
@edfreak90012 жыл бұрын
i think it's already happening it's just not going to be for our generation. Though, I admittedly do worry we'll never have a true return to form in something as "unmoderated community energy" as this. These wild maps were a joy and I wish more games would have experiences like them in the modern day, yes even if that means randomly tripping over porn hidden in the map.

we? no, we won't. Newer generations will. As time goes on, more games and more fandoms arise. You may be part of one of these experiences for someone else, but our time is ny on done

I never really played TF2, but years ago I remember my older brother playing on this map all the time. I remember spawning in the cat bus and I thought it was so cool. I loved everything about it!** It was a pretty big sensory overload on my 4 year old mind though lol **Exception being the portal corn. I did not know that was there and I didn't need to know it was there

There are so many similar variations of this map. I always played the one with the blimp and pipe took you to a totally different area.

I grew up with that one instead, I loved that map so much. It's named ”dm_mariokart” in case you want to visit it again.

Funny you upload this today, me and some friends joined a server running this map a few hours ago for a little nostalgia trip. Its not just this though, I've been having a lot of cooincidences this Christmas, for instance, I was watching a video where a guy unboxed an airfryer, at the same time everyone in the room next to me started having an unrelated conversation about airfryers, next moment a friend sends an airfryer related meme into a Discord chat. The matrix is real and it is collapsing around me, please help.

I made the Gashunk meme used in this map, not because I knew the creator of the map, he just happen to use it. Probably found it on 4chan. I did shop in all the cigarettes in the gentlemen meme for him when he was working on it. Among other things there was a beta of the map which I had played on simply called mario_kart_b, which is what few screen shots I took are called. Looks mostly the same, just a few missing props, images rearranged. A screen shot I took of my Gashunk meme shows that the center was originally a open area under the clubroom, but I guess walled up to keep things balanced.

The best map of the game. It still gives me a great feeling of nostalgia.

The version I always played on had a bunch of new areas, never realized that wasn't the original version.

You need to do jb_minecraft that is ICONIC for the jailbreak mode. Good memories and times. I played as a kid and got killed because of my undeveloped vocal cords. Still good times and fun.

Man, I remember spending more time on that map, and some of its variants, more than official and generic community-made maps. Collin's Team Fabulous was just the cherry on top to bring more nostalgia of that map.

Remember when those servers had the !roll or !d mechanic? You'd roll the dice to win speedhacks and just zoom around the map 100% critting everyone hahaha

I joined a server with the Kitty0706 tribute map when it was released and it was a super special time. Me and a server full of strangers explored the map and did some classic Mario_Kart deathmatching. After a while of conga-ing and whatnot, we all started shooting simultaneously at the Majora's Mask moon to "destroy" it. This went on for a long while, and eventually one person organized a little tribute/concert. The awesomeface critical rocket image on the original map, was replaced with a little image of Kitty's avatar with a halo, and we all gathered around in front of that area. She sung a great version of Another Song About the Weekend as the rest of the server just listened and watched, some doing taunts. I think some other people joined in with the singing eventually too, and it overall was just a super cool moment. It's just another fond memory of this map I'll never forget.

Man. The very loose clan I was apart of back in the day had a server running this and I absolutely loved it. Infact I for a while I think I was one of the top engineers just due to the pistol since it was a 100% crit server... er sorry if you ran into a Nekomimi~ at the time. Honestly, since I was still a kid, it wasn't bad. I just really liked the server and the casualness it brought out, When the server decided to not care, I was fully on board. Edit: I think it was Battlebad.
