I feel like people are too fixated on IGNs review, like their review was the only one that matters (when the hell was IGN ever the end all be all of game reviews???💀💀💀), im not even trying to completely dismiss all their criticisms cuz their are a few of them do have some validaty to them ,but like theres soo many other reviewers giving the game its praises and along with its fair bit of criticisms, but anyways thats just my thoughts on reviewers, im hyped for Thursday

Actually i wanted to also mention the criticisms about tutorials, and them being hand holdy, which i was abit confused by, this is just based off the gameplay we have so far, but unlike other mario and luigi games, it just gives you some quick panels with explanations with how to do certain things, and with like 2 or 3 clicks you close them, and your on your own, like thats probably one the best way the couldve handled tutorials, without having a partner character walk you through how to battle and such

And this could last like 3 to 5 minutes, Im not even joking. You might think that this could lead to a slow start, but this kind of tutorials covered 70% of the Game. Otherwise, the dialogue was quite fun and didn't felt really that intrusive.

IGN is inconsistent in their reviews. sometimes they have very weird takes. Like when they reviewed Octopath 2 ( which most people agree is better than Octopath 1 ) But they gave Octopath 1 9.3/10 and Octopath 2 7/10

That IGN review is a perfect example of why people should never take any one reviewer's opinion too seriously. People naturally will feel differently about certain aspects of a game. For me, the fact that it got a 5, despite the reviewer saying the battle system is great is kind of surprising, but that's just the way it is. People value different aspects of games differently. As it stands, the aggregate score makes it seem as if it'll be a solid entry in the series, even if it has some issues potentially holding it back a bit.

Mostly it's a character explaining it, then a text box, and if you need to see it again, you can. Having played just after the first GL (avoiding spoilers), and the tutorials seem to not stop because there's always something new to learn, not because it's repetitive.

For me I feel like Acquire's mission wasn't to make the best Mario & Luigi game, it was to see if they could make a decent Mario & Luigi game in the first place! Because since Alpha Dream went bankrupt, it was basically time to reboot the whole sub franchise when finding a new developer. Like think about when Retro Studios became the main developer of the DKC series after Rare Ware was bought out by Microsoft, the DKC series was in a similar possession. When DKC Returns came out a lot of fans considered it to be the weakest game in the entire series. Reason why was because they majorly had a new set of developers working on it. (like with Brothership the OG composter didn't even come back) Though it wasn't really a bad standalone game it's actually a pretty good platformer with some challenging levels. And when it's sequel game Tropical Freeze came out it was basically received as a masterpiece! Sure, some fans had their gripes, but it was a really fun and well-designed game. (plus they got David wise back!) I feel like if Acquire ever gets to make another M+L game it would be a lot better since they have more experience!

I’ve seen a few people using IGN’s review as a jumping off point that “so many reviews calling out bad performance” is a sign we need the next console, but like… feels like a stretch to push a narrative that we need a new console immediately. Like, I looked through every review MetaCritic listed (that I could understand, since not able to read every language), and I only found 4 that definitively said bad performance. Most of what I hear says the game runs very well or at worst, has some slight hiccups but is mostly solid. So it really feels like people are just trying to find any excuse to push that we NEED Switch 2 NOW. And like, don’t get me wrong. I understand Switch is showing its age more lately (personally, I haven’t had any games beside Pokémon that I’ve dealt with bad performance, but even that I still enjoyed a lot as a game). But like, it’s not always the console, but sometimes the developers, we have to keep that in mind. We just gotta be patient and recognize the updated hardware IS on the way. And in the meantime, enjoy what we do have. Like, provided we enjoy it, obviously, and still be willing to criticize stuff if it has legitimate issues or personal problems. As for me, I’m getting this game regardless of what any review says. I’m waiting for Christmas, though, but yeah. Very much looking forward to it and hope everyone enjoys the game when it releases.

I think the bad performance might just be a sign that this game came out before the hardware it was meant to run on. i.e. The Switch 2. It seems very plausible given how close we are to the end of the Switch's life.

@ I don’t think so. Nintendo are far from averse to sitting on a finished game and releasing when the time is right. And given reports Nintendo held back on releasing the console to ensure there were enough games at launch, I don’t see why they would release a game earlier than intended. I think any performance issues came from the new studio making the game just letting something slip through the cracks. Given what I’ve heard, any frame drops are negligible, so they probably figured what they had was fine.

Ign gave paperjam a 5.9 and even though i love paperjam like one of my favorites they hated mundane backgrounds and enemies and this has new enemies. This for one of the best battle system ever is really concerning since they rated it lower than paperjam but have less problems. This has new enemies and backdrops and all mario and luigi games have grass, desert, snow, forest. They all have this system set up. Ign was really deoending on nostalgia and uses that to say that this game sucks. They say they don't like the new things like luigi logic and the boat system and this feels like something pokemon would do. They hated gen 4 a long time ago and are now saying that the new ones should be nore like gen 4. Changes to games will make people mad since there forced to adapt and ign just didnt want to since theres a heavy reassurance that they played the older games and liked them. I could be biased so dont use this one comment as proof the game is good but most of these are nitpicks and all this didnt do was live up to the expectation of what they expected which was provably a huge expectation. Them reassuring that they love all the old games just so they can dunk on this game rubs me off. I loved the mario and luigi game and gave high hopes for this. They gave dragon age a nine and they have too many dialogue. Play the game for yourself before deciding whether the game is good or bad and most importantly take most game reviewers with a grain of salt. Everyones preferences are diffrent and maybe people who reviewed the games dont even like rpgs. Get the game for yourself and dont focus in the nitpicks too much. I will most definitely buy this gane with my own standards and what i value in a mario and luigi rpg and you should too.

Actually I think it was the only correct thing stated in the review, because it's the only thing they were really objective about. There were definitely frame drops and micro-stutters. It's not Pokemon bad, but it's noticeable. Everything else in the review was trash and should be disregarded.

@BigUzi46 It's just brief but noticeable dips in frame rate, sometimes occurring multiple times in a few seconds. It's what it sounds like, the game looks like it's hitching or getting choppy, then returning to its normal frame rate, then back and forth. Having a frame counter would help you confirm it, but consoles don't have such a luxury of course.

I don't have any nostalgia about all Mario and Luigi Brothership and the series nor the complaints about them. I just wanted to enjoy the story or the Main story of the game. Although, I probably accept two of the criticism from IGN that being low frame rate about playing on the TV almost compared to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. A better recommendations would be on the Nintendo Switch Lite or Handheld. Another criticism from IGN is probably the villains, it seems that Bowser ain't the final boss and I'm okay with that instead his role was Half Final Boss. As well as Luigi not being controllable but what could go wrong when Luigi came and help out, it's just a helpful cooperation rather than individual swap. I only accept the criticism of the Paper Mario TTYD remake from IGN reviews only. Also, I'll buy this game but not on Day 1 after my Switch Lite is fixed at least.

I don't want to sound like a negative contrarian, but this game is boring to me. I hate saying that. I want to like this game, but it feels so disconnected, doesn't feel like a grand adventure and more like the bros are just running errands on the island, and I'm finding myself not caring about the world, characters, or story that much because I feel like this game lacks cohesion. The combat while fun is becoming very repetitive for me. The first boss fight is when I genuinely felt engaged with the game and having genuine fun. I know I'm quite early in the game, but it's hard to find motivation to play when it feels so slow and boring. I want to know if it will pick up, as some way the game only gets fun about 5 hours into it. I want to know if the story picks up and it feels like a grand adventure as opposed to just busy work. I really want to like this game as I too love the Mario RPGs like you. Tell me this game picks up, the gameplay starts to feel less repetitive and more varied, and there's cohesion with the plot. I really hate to come off as negative, but this game is turning out to be a bore for me, and I hate that.

When I play it, I’m going to listen to different songs that were composed by Yoko Shimomura because as much as I think Hideki Sakamoto did a fantastic job scoring the cutscenes and what not, I would much prefer to go into this game, hearing a certain familiarness in how Yoko composes her work. I’d be doing it for my eleven year old self and my fourteen year old self.

I have been watching gameplay I am getting hopefully here soon but from I've seen the frame doesn't look so bad that the platforming is difficult just sounds like the person just sucks at platforming games. I played the game. IGN review isn't far off but if you like Dream Team you'll probably like this. The main issue with this game is the pacing of the story and padding. It feels like you're stuck in groundhog day, the final 10+ hours is just constantly edging you into thinking it's the finale only for it to pull the rug and keep going. You can only attempt to escalate the stakes so many times before you become numb to it and I think a lot of people will struggle to see the game to the end. In regards to padding it's a game that doesn't respect your time and has a lot of busy work which adds nothing of value other than extending the run time. I am pretty confident this will be a very divisive game but I would say it is in the bottom 3 of the series.

It doesn't mean we won't play this game as we are informed fans, but IGN destroys its popularity and decreases the opportunity to be played from those who had never ever played this franchise before.
