I have illustrated a possible new time save in this short video since I discovered that Mario can get very close to the edge of a platform without falling off or dying. I had to go through Niftski's last speed run and find any point where Mario could jump and get closer to the edge of a platform than he already was. If you are capable of finding new time saves in SMB, then please, for your own good, keep your tricks close to the chest & make your own runs. All you'll get from sharing your tricks is bigger names stealing your credit. If I would have kept my trick to myself, I would have the WR for Dead Space remake right now. @@BedrockBlocker Do flies see time slower? It makes sense for being smaller and living shorter and having to react faster. I do know that pigeons do that - and probably other birds and other small animals as well -. The explanation I was given boils down to their eyes/brains having a higher frame rate than ours making them able to see more changes in the same time, making it easier to quickly estimate speeds and directions and react accordingly. If I see a car while I'm standing in the middle of the road I better get out of the way because I have no idea how long it has been there or how fast it's going and my acceleration is probably even worse than Luigi's. If a pigeon sees a car, they're more like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll go, first I'll eat this and that and I'll pick up the last one and get out of your way, oh you're slowing down, I'll get this one as well then **HOOONNNNK** Okay.. chill! @atomdecay7 ай бұрын
I mean this in the nicest possible way, but how can it even be possible to solve a Rubik's cube while blindfolded without SOME sort of indication of color? I understand that people do it all the time, but how is it even possible to arrange colors in order when you can't see the colors?
@jzk.y7 ай бұрын
@@atomdecay the trick is that you use algorithms that only change one or two pieces at a time. so then, after you do the algorithm, the rest of the pieces on the puzzle are still where they are. using this fact, you can solve any of these puzzles blindfolded, as long as you can properly trace where these pieces need to go, and remember that sequence of pieces to solve in order. somewhat simplified, but this is the general idea
@atomdecay7 ай бұрын
@@jzk.y Yeah, after my comment I did a little digging & I see what you mean by algorithms, but my question is, are they allowed to view the cube BEFORE being blindfolded? Or, is every cube the same before they're blindfolded? I get how they can make little stories that help them remember sequences, but how do they even know where to begin at all without first seeing the placement of the colors before being blindfolded? & if they are allowed to view the cube before being blindfolded please disregard everything else I said as that fully answers my question lol.
@jzk.y7 ай бұрын
@@atomdecay yeah, in a blindfolded attempt, there are two parts: memo - you lift your hands off the stackmat, starting the timer, and look at the cube.y ou to memorize the sequence of pieces to solve. you cannot turn the puzzle execution - you don the blindfold and start doing algorithms to solve the puzzle. when you're finished, you put your hands on the stackmat in short, you are timed for both memo and execution. you do get to look at the cube first

I have a theory that Niftski is actually a machine sent back in time to protect John Conner. But now that that’s done, he needed a new purpose and took up speed running. For a while, he avoided matching the tas, as to not garner too much suspicion, but lately he’s been getting a little careless. Laugh all you want but that’s still a better story than the last 4 Terminator movies.

How is it possible to solve a Rubik's Cube while blindfolded? How is it possible to arrange colors in order together without seeing the colors? It's less of a "dang, he REALLY practiced!" & more of a "Okay, something isn't right here..." type of thing. If I throw a pile of 50 toothpicks in front of Scalpel, & each group of 10 are different colors, will he be able to group each color together while blindfolded? How is that possible without cheating? Can he smell the colors? Are they ridged like Braille? Does he have different textures on each color? There has to be some sort of explanation beyond "He just knows where the colors are". It ISNT POSSIBLE for a human being to distinguish color without sight. It's the same as trying to explain what a color looks like to a blind person without using another color. Can you do it? Didn't think so. So how exactly does a human being percieve colors without sight?

I find it funny that the part I find most surprising about this is that the warp zone Piranha Plants have hitboxes! The way they show up for such a short time and then disappear made me think they were just for show, which I guess might be part of the reason they make you run over the whole area first before reaching the pipes if you don't glitch into the area.
@fatcerberus10 ай бұрын
I used to think they were just for show too, but nope, they're fully functional Piranha Plant entities. IIRC, SMB1 and Lost Levels are hardcoded to spawn Pirahna Plants in every pipe (this way the level data doesn't have to include plant locations). SMB1 special-cases 1-1 to avoid them spawning, but otherwise every single pipe has a plant, so they have to intentionally despawn them when a warp zone is triggered.

Came for a SMB2J Luigi speedrun explanation, stayed for Bowser's feet. 10/10

26:00 I first thought you were bringing up the standard bus framerule since 8-4 in SMB1 is talked about as having "no framerule"

Love seeing Jhay on the vid. Been watching his Galaxy runs for about two years.

I love to play as Luigi his gameplay is more difficult than Mario's with the slipperiness and higher jumps. I love how you broke down the Luigi and Mario differences in speedrunning. I'm going to practice Luigi's flagpole glitch.

19:55 it’s cause when Luigi or Mario start to fall they become invincible as there falling if you hold down you just enter the pipe and not land causing him to remain in that state

Love these kind of videos from someone who knows the game as well as Kosmic! Also very nice to hear Superstar Saga music, I always thought that soundtrack is seriously underrated

Oh man! The nostalgia hit from that Duck Tales music! I played it on GameBoy, such a difficult game but that music is ingrained into my brain.

There are only two things about Super Mario I'm sure of: that Speedrunners will always find more time to save, and that there's a lot of people who REALLY wanted you to spent more time talking about Bowser's feet.

Scalpel being the only one in the same Solar System as Niftski says so much about both playing as Luigi and the level at which they play. Niftski can just tap into Ultra Instinct, seemingly at will. I can't help but wonder if he'll ever run out of things to do in SMB1 and 2 because he's capable of straight-up perfection. (Also, nice to see a brief KingBoo97 cameo in here.)

Such an informative video! Very well done! 😄 By the way, what's that gnarly scene of the Grim Reaper slicing Luigi at 17:26 from? 😮

quick explanation of how the bouncing off enemies works. it's basically a combination of are they rising level or falling, is mario rising or falling and front or back of the enemy you jump on

28:41 Can you put a link to the video here (the one that shows up in the top right, I'm not sure what it's called) so people like me who haven't seen it yet don't have to go find it manually?
