Running .40 S&W on one of my Dillon Super 1050's with the Mark 7 Autodrive 1050 Pro Version at 1,500 Rounds/Hour.
If you like this one here is the 2020 version with a powder funnel fix at around 12 minutes and the last section showing a smooth running press.

For the thousands of people that viewed my other video on "making ammunition" and are wondering where the video went, well KZbin took it down citing a violation of their TOS. They claimed that I was promoting the "sale" of ammunition and that I was not allowed to do that. For those of you that saw the video I just did a home made video on how I reload ammunition start to finish. Never in the video did I ever promote the sale of that ammunition, and I have never sold my reloaded ammunition. I appealed it but that was useless. I pointed to the thousands of videos promotion the actual sale of items but it made no difference. The permanently deleted my video. How's that for censorship, big brother, and anti 2A.

Update on some issues with the Mark 7. So I have practically every sensor they make for this, most recently the bullet sense which I must say is extremely well machined and built. However as much as I like this machine I must say there are some things about the machine that are not up to standards. I suggest you do not purchase the spent primer sensor and invest your money on the swage sensor. The swager sensor will tell you if you have punched out a primer or not. The swage sensor is also a high quality well machined part. There is really no reason to have both. The reason I suggest the swager sensor over the spent primer sensor is because the spent primer sensor is a piece of junk and you will be sorry you spent a few hundred dollars for what appears to be a $25 part. My main complaint is the sensor's bracket. It's a printed part, very flimsily and brittle. Because it sits on a part of the Dillon press which has rough casting marks underneath it does not sit flush and it breaks at the mounting bolt all the time. I have broken three of them and all of them had stress cracks. I mentioned this to the company and told them I thought this bracket should be made from Al, not cheap plastic printed part. They never responded. Before I put the third replacement on my press (they sent for free), I gave it to a friend of mine who has a C&C machine. He put together a CAD file for it and made modifications to make it fit better. He then machined one on the C&C and it works perfectly, locks in tightly, and will not fail. So I mentioned this to the company, sent them pictures of the part, expressed my displeasure for paying such a high price for such a junk part considering the rest of the auto drive is made of high quality materials, and they never even responded. Customer service is excellent as long as your not complaining or suggesting that a part of their machine is poorly engineered and way overpriced. I guess they don't really have the time for you once you buy all the sensors they have. Just beware, that sensor is junk.

I wish I had read this before I bought mine. I have all the sensors also. This one is junk. I have the new one they replaced the old one with. It's junk also. I've been through 4 of them. The last one they had the nerve to charge me $36 for repairs. What happened to the warranty. That being said stay away from this sensor.

I've always wanted to press my own rounds but have never been able to find cheap enough materials to warrant it. I buy my rounds from sgammo and never pay more than .40c per round for 45acp and that's on the high end. I tried pricing out brass, powder, etc.... and I can't even find new brass for less than .20cents per round. I hear local gun shows are good for primers but not sure where to buy everything else to bring the cost per completed round below .30cents.

I’m interested in getting into reloading (I’m a newb) and have viewed a number of vids on single stage AND progressive presses. How do you ensure a consistent amount of propellant in the charging stage/stroke?
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 5 жыл бұрын
I can't answer for other presses but on the Dillon if you set up the powder drop correctly and you are consistent with your pull stroke the powder consistency is excellent. Again that is one of the benefits to this automated press, the stroke is smooth and consistent every time. You don't rely on manually pulling the handle. But if you are new to reloading then obviously this setup is not the way to start so I would look for a high quality press. I have an old Lee loader that I strictly use for custom loads and for those loads I measure the powder manually for each round. That's not practical for my pistol rounds but it works fine for my special rifle loads.

That's all nice and we'll if you 2,500 to spend but, in the one minute video that machine ran close to 50+ rounds and not once did you at check on primer set, powder charge, or over all length. Even factories they check every 20 rounds. So how often are you checking?
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 3 жыл бұрын
All parameters are checked every 100 rounds, when the primer's are reloaded. During reloading when not filming I pull random rounds continuously to measure for length and crimp diameter. They are also case checked. Every round is bulk case checked prior to completion. I never check the primer pocket depth, in over 500,000 rounds or more it has never been a problem once set. For strictly my use and not for resale I find my QC to be totally acceptable. I have not had a squib for years with my 9mm reloads, and never had a misfire from a high primer. Some individuals on my team shoot factory and have more failures than my reloads, so much for checking every 20 rounds which I find difficult to believe. I have seen 9mm factor manufacturing videos, they are all over KZbin. Funny I never see anyone checking every 20 rounds. If you are interested in seeing a more detailed preview of how I make my ammo start to finish you may like this next video. However if the $2500 for the auto drive alone bugs you, you may not want to watch this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqKxZ3dpebCreLc

I don't really know, all I know is it is cheaper. You can't go by me anyway because I am a licensed gun dealer and I get all my stuff at wholesale. Not the press or auto drive, just the supplies. For me it's not about cost. I shoot many competitions with different firearms and reloading for me is all about tuning rounds for a particular firearm and competition. Major vs. minor, static steel vs. knockdown steel stuff like that. When I make a custom load for a gun and particular type of competition I run out several thousand rounds at a time. That's the value of the auto drive for me, I can reload large batches of ammo and not have to deal with it for a year. Just pick the gun and ammo off the shelf depending on what I am shooting that day.

First time long time. Once I got use to how the Mark 7 works and interfaces with the 1050 setup is simple. The software allows for calibration and also single runs so setting up the press is no different than setting up a 1050 manually, your just not pulling the handle. The sensors once they are setup are usually never changed except for the bullet sensor. (Not seen in this video, late addition).

@TheMattinoc 7 жыл бұрын
what does something like that cost to build?
@georgeascione8861
@georgeascione8861 7 жыл бұрын
The cost varies, this unit is the 1050 pro from Mark7. The press is a standard 1050 Pro and it does have some extras. The press base price is around 1700, there is the bullet feeder which is another 500 with accessories, some extra trays and stuff. Figure the press with the bullet feeder setup for one caliber is around $2500. Then there is the autodrive, that base price is $2750 for the pro unit. I have extra sensors for swage, primer, powder so there is another $800 or so. Figure the press as you see it in the video running is somewhere between $5500 and $6,000. Then of course you have all of your caliber changes and tool dies etc.

How much (ballpark) for complete set up
@RetroDawn

His current setup, with the machines and all the sensors was over $250,000 (figure from a comment he made on YT or Quora--I assume by "machines" he meant one Mark 7 and one 1050). He has a much newer video with more info--link in the details of this one.

And people wonder why I went from a 550 to a 1050.

I live in an apartment with the Mark 7 autodrive and the Dillon 1050 it looks from the video everything is free form like with the rubber feet and plate it is portable and you can just set everything on a table without mounting is this accurate? If so this is exactly what I am looking for.

Yes, that is correct. The entire assembly sits on a steel plate with rubber feet. Everything including the post for the case feeder is on the plate. Portable? not so much, it weighs quite a bit but it is not bolted or screwed down in the video you are seeing.

I have the exact same setup. I live in an apartment. The only problem you will have is if you are going to keep it in a garage or not. If it will be in your apartment it is a little noisy.

I have about $6500 into it now. This video is old, I have additional sensors and stuff on it now. I am putting up a companion video of how it looks and runs now. That will be up shortly.

I load 100 at a time. But I can keep the press running and load primers as they get low.
