Internet can be an easy spot for people to anonymously post violence inciting and hateful content and change the landscape of our communities if it gets out of hand. Facebook is not the only public forum to do this. If you go to any forum website that is topic specific they will have guidelines about how you shouldn’t post. It’s similar to how when you go to a private store (ex: Walmart, Target), you can’t just scream and act weird and make those around you uncomfortable. The popularity of the platform shouldn’t deny their right to ban certain people to keep it a safer environment for the rest of its users/customers. It’s similar to how cable TV censors cuss words or nudity

Then after I submitted the phone number, all I could do was log out, and immediately, nobody could see my IG profile anymore! The URL to the webpage also no longer worked! It's almost 2 years later and not a single human or any sign of contact has occurred at all! Also, I have not been able to find any way to appeal the situation or make any contact with any humans at Instagram about this at all!

You know they are being forced by the democratic party to censor on their platform or risk legal trouble right? The "democratic" left government is essentially blackmailing private companies into censorship and pushing their propaganda. Free speech means no government censorship. If Meta doesn't want certain views shared on their platform they don't have to but that's not what's happening here, they are being coerced by the leftist government currently in power. The FBI literally warned (threatened) them about "misinformation" possibly being shared on their platform, even though the information was factual. The bigger issue is the corruption and abuse of power by government not social media companies.

Even better would be to have some sort of data viz that shows how these feed algorithms change over time. This is a problem that creeps out KZbinrs too. People want to know how and why certain things get shown in their feed and why other things don't show up. We get it, you are a business, you have to make money. That's all fine. A friend of mine is a Facebook “moderator.” We were playing COD together one day and I kept hearing this ding in the background. I asked him about it and he said that he was working. He explained to me that Facebook’s algorithm red flags posts and all he does is confirm/remove them with a simple click. Apparently, for legal reasons they can’t just remove posts without human confirmation. Says that he always just removes them because he’d have to actually read the post and confirm it isn’t in violation of TOS. Pretty scummy, but that’s practically facebooks moto.
