As a long time believer and soul conscious evangelical I loved this movie. The reason is because it forces the viewer to question what they say they believe in. This story chose to use Mormonism, but it could’ve used any denomination. My friend and I sat in the theater for 15 minutes afterwards and discussed theology and doctrine. I’m still thinking about this movie.

Yes. I agree. Remember Ephesians 6:17 the sword is the word of God and as Jesus defeated Satan was not by physical fighting but by the word of God. Obviously when the girl was walking through the celler there was a lot of demonic parifonali and so I felt he was dealing with demonic things which I found kinda interesting on all the movie explanation no one touched on that but anywho I use to love horror movies but had stopped when becoming a devoted Christian because yes it can desensitize us but the only reason this interest me was the fact one day before the preview came out I said it would be cool to have a escape room that to get to the next area you need to know the correct Bible verses and littely that night I went to the movies and saw the trailer which seem like the same concept but obviously more sinister. However my thoughts at the end were she really did have faith and while she prayed for him and her God saved her by the other girl waking up to kill him so she could escape. Remember about the 3 men in the book of Daniel that king nebakazezer put into the fire and God was the 4th person he saw and the man were alive because of their faith in God. But yes we need to know the word of God I truly agree.

With all due respect, I saw the movie and understood what the underlying message was. Today, we have just as many evil imposters in the church as in the secular world. We need to teach our children spiritual discernment, or they could be controlled and deceived by wolves in sheep's clothing. The movie made me think and alarmed me, which is more than I can say for any sermon I've heard in the last couple of decades. Pastors are too comfort driven and afraid to offend anyone. In this movie these girls have zero spiritual discernment. One look at the house and "no way". Since there is zero profanity in this movie it would be a great movie to watch with teens and open up some tough questions "Heretic" poses. Pastor Driscoll must be naive to what most Christian kids have already been exposed to through media. I believe more in being a "Christ Warrior" than being a fly easily ensnared in a spider's web.

I'm inclined to agree. Though not technically it's intention, it's actually a pretty good avenue for discussing apologetics and understanding the importance of knowing and interrogating why you believe what you believe, something everyone, but especially Christians, ought to do. His characterization of the situation surrounding this "miracle" is objectively inaccurate, which is frankly why you should always be cautious to opine on things you know little about. It also isn't telling people what they should believe. It doesn't endorse Mormonism, nor does it endorse the perspective of the villain either. In fact, it's the flaws in his attitude and worldview that cause his own downfall. In fact, the story goes out of its way to poke holes in the villain's philosophical perspective. The point of the story would be that regardless of whether or not you believe in any particular faith, none whatsoever, or if you're earnestly searching for the truth, you ought to be guided by critical thinking and honest self reflection and avoid the pitfalls of both blind faith in your own beliefs, ideological arrogance, and motivated reasoning. This is a fundamentally good message. The only potentially objectionable thing about it is if you want to argue against the genre itself. I would personally disagree with that assessment for a variety of reasons, reasons I consider to be well founded, but that's certainly an argument you can make, and you owe it to God and to yourself to follow your own conscience on this matte one way or the other.

“The Movie Heretic” ~ Featuring Control So, I just saw the movie Heretic And it reminded me of a specific dream I had. And honestly, part of me wonders if this was a prophetic dream. You’ll see what I mean. ❇️ From Day 42: Wind ~❇️(The Dream) 4:31 AM I was with a couple people and we were in this man’s house, and this man was very Strange: he was like a Giant Darkman, who was also Very Devoted to some kind of Religion and in his house, he Controlled Everything and Moved the very Walls that were Shaped like decorated Squares Within Squares of the House and he Kept us Trapped in a Maze, with almost no way out, where he stated that whenever, if ever we entered into a room, he would then Close The Room and we would have No Way of Escape, I don’t even remember how we even got into this man’s house, but once we were, he was, saying, Now you’ll never escape! I think there was three of us, and one of us Definitely Got Trapped In One of the Rooms of His House. This man, He was dressed like an African prince or Genie 🧞 and he spoke 🗣️ with a Smooth Voice that was Also Very Deep, kind of like Candyman. It was Weird and Creepy. And I don’t remember all the details of the dream, though, maybe I do: But one thing I Definitely Remember was when I reached this one part of the house where I was Crawling through this Tunnel that was Filled With Mirrors 🪞 on All Sides and I got Stuck because there was still a bit of Fat around my waist. It was at this moment that I Asked the Lord to Help me and Help me He Did. Praise God! I Prayed to the Lord to Help me, and He Delivered me. I was turned into a Snake, 🐍 and then Suddenly there was a Worm,🪱 and the Snake ate the Worm. At this point in the dream I thought I was the worm, but I wasn’t, I might have to think about this part later, but I had found a way out and to get outside the house that the Strange Man who was able to Shuffle Around The Walls Inside At Will held us in. The dream ended with me consoling a friend who was also Trapped In The House that I was eventually able to Get Out with me and the Police 👮♂️ arrested the Man. Let’s call him, Zoodu’. Zoodu’ because his ways were Strange Like Voodoo, and also I turned into a Snake 🐍 which is an Animal, and this place was a Zoo in the sense where he Tried to keep us In-Caged. And he was Definitely an African Prince, which means the Name is Appropriate and suits him. The man was In Opposition of us, much like Goliath was Against David, and this man was a Giant, as well as a Crafty Magician, 🧙♂️ being able to Move the Walls. But you know what? My God Can Move Mountains! ⛰️ This Dream man: It almost Felt Claustrophobic. I say Almost because I was also Aware that this was a Dream and Not Reality. And no matter what happened in the Dream, as long as the Lord was with me, I Did Not Need To Worry about the Challenges that I faced, or which way the Wind blew or how Hard it blew: because The Lord Would Protect Me: and He would Lead us to Safety: Amen.🙏 Trusting in the Lord is like a Steady Breeze, a Comfortable, Unhowling Wind🌬️ where we Don’t Worry about moving one way or another, Knowing that He Is Watching Over us: Amen.🙏 ~ About Heretic: Now in the movie, a couple missionary girls from the Mormon faith are Trapped by this Diabolical man 😈 unable to escape his house, where the main antagonist, played by Hugh Grant brings up a lot of good points about many Religions, where he rationalizes that The Only True Religion is Control! And to be honest, I did appreciate the Rebuttal, and I was actually enjoying the movie right until the end, where the woman who makes about alive ends up telling the audience that prayer doesn’t work. Which is Not True. I am proof that prayer 🙏 does work. And the reincarnation that at the end, symbolize by a butterfly at the tip of the girls finger was just icing on the cake. 🍰 I digress. And the reason why I said that the dream I had was probably prophetic is because I had that dream 04-14-24 and it turns out that the very first trailer for this movie came out in June 06-25-24. So, … In both movies that I’ve seen yesterday and today: Both Conclave and Heretic, I had a Problem with By the film’s End.🎞️ Nevertheless, both were an interesting watch. 🎦 I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching this film because I know that Jesus is not a Religion. And if I could point, something out, it would’ve been really interesting to see Hugh Grant’s character, the villainous Reed try to come up with an argument against the Holy Spirit. ✝️ And the fact that the Holy Spirit ✝️ isn’t even brought up, shows the Limitation of the Mormon Religion. In the movie, the Holy Spirit ✝️ is not even mentioned. So that was a bummer, however, honestly, what can you say against the Holy Spirit?✝️ ~ Joshua ~ 11-12-24

I’m probably going to get all kinds of grief over this but it is what it is. I was born and raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, my husband is a convert. It’s true we believe a little differently on some aspects of the gospel. We do believe in Jesus and God the Father and in the Holy Spirit. We teach our children to love the Lord Jesus Christ and pray unto Heavenly Father (God) in Jesus name. We learn and teach gospel principles. We try our best to obey the commandments. We do read and follow the Bible not just The Book of Mormon. We believe in family unity. How is this demonic? I guarantee this movie didn’t portray missionaries completely correct. They probably inserted some of the ways like having a companion for safety and support and trying to share the gospel. But a lot was probably misconstrued. I haven’t and won’t watch the movie. Most people automatically think we’re evil so they don’t try to understand or really research the right information, they think they’ll be bewitched somehow if they read the Book of Mormon. We believe no one on this earth is or has been perfect except Jesus. Even our prophets past and present are just men. I guess some might call me more of a rebel member as I believe some beliefs have been misconstrued and changed by man even in our own church. I and my family focus on the gospel principles, loving Christ, and trying our best to be good Christian people who love and serve with the Light of Christ as our center.

I’m not a fan of undercutting the idea of spiritual warfare, but the most horrifying thing about this movie had more to do with the arguments, which were held up as if they were coherent; it’s something we should be aware of. It shouldn’t excuse everything, but we should take the opportunity presented to create and respond to opportunities to bring up the gospel; not only that, but also to be aware of the current state of theological debate. We can use those opportunities to be prepared to demolish faulty arguments.

If all Christians believed the same things, perhaps there wouldn't be thousands of different demonstrations, all having slightly different interpretations or views on what Bible passages may mean? If you indeed have a sincere curiosity on the matter, might I suggest reading the Book of Mormon for yourself, and not rely on what others (even me) say about it. You might be surprised what you find! I'll leave you with one of my favorite Christ-centered passages from the Book, written by an ancient American prophet named Moroni... Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ...

I would argue "some" movies in the genre, actually help educate people on how to avoid evil. ie/eg, how many young adults will see this movie, and learn/think twice about letting a stranger trick them into entering a bad situation(!?) The movie's story line, is actually a loose take on the children's story "Hansel & Gretel" which actually helps children understand that the world is full of vial evil people, who will do them great harm if given the chance. Another movie I would argue, that helps more than it hurts, is the "Exorcist. Disturbing as the Exorcist truly is, there is an educational element that teaches people about demonic possession, in a way most (if any) churches would touch with a 50ft pole, even though the Bible clearly mentions Jesus (and the apostles) casted out demons.

Ok, fair point about the movie and I can agree, however since you opened the door on the "genre," what about Christian movies in the horror genre, particularly the movies based on novels written by Frank Peretti? Are we saying that a movie like "The Visitation," which has a biblical message are no good? And are we as Christians going to judge the legitimacy of Frank Peretti being a Christian because he writes horror fiction? Also, I live in DFW and I will submit to you the recent DayStar TV scandal.....which the details of that are infinitely more horrific than the Heretic movie....and that's a real life situation. So, is not seeing this movie taking a Christian stand or us burying our heads in the sand because in today's world, the devil is behind every corner (or so we think)? Legitimate question.
@Kurtsg109 күн бұрын
Personally Pastor (I attend your church so I will call you that), I think the movie looks at least thought-provoking and that it is trying to challenge people rather than attack Christianity (the directors at least made an effort to portray the Mormon heroines in a positive light), plus it does show Satanic evil (via Hugh Grant's character sneering at how religion is just an effort to control people, like he's doing). In contrats, Wicked (part one) is far more explicitly hostile to Christianity (hell, its author bragged about doing as much with his deliberate efforts to subvert and mock the Wizard of Oz with the Wicked Witch as the hero and the Wizard of Oz as the villain) but it does so coated in saccharine sweetness with catchy musical numbers.

With all due respect to Mr.Driscoll, I feel as if all he cares about is dividing people and making controversial posts. I doubt he’s never seen the actual film and never will. The movie isn’t so bad. The purpose of this movie is not to evangelize, if so it would have been a failure. The purpose is to make you think. If your faith is strong, you shouldn’t be shaken by a movie or another work of art because they have a different point of view. Hugh Grants character is evil but he makes a few valid points about religion, and places the two characters in circumstances that change the way they think. He does pit them against their beliefs, and in a sense, at the end of the film a “miracle” does happen. I can understand a film critic mentioning this film on thier channel, but it seems as if Pastor Driscoll could do better thinks with his time, like preaching the gospel. Instead, if tearing down a movie he’s never seen, why didn’t he sit down with the people who made it and share the gospel with them?

Hollywood does put out some very evil and sinful movies showing homosexuality, one night stands, premarital sex, constant cussing, and they glorify violence . Perfect example go to you tube and look up the movie kingsman and the church scene. I saw this before i became a christian and i wont watch it now. It's not a garbage plot it's just done in the wrong way. If you look at the plot initially it's two people who are devout Christians and they stumble across the house of a religious man who's also a real life jigsaw who rather than tests people for their criminal actions he tests them for their Spiritual ones to see if their Faith is legit and how much pain can break it or if it can be broken at all. That is a good plot but if it is going to please God it has to be done in a very very VERY careful way or it become what the title for this film is. The problems with this movie is 1. The Believers are mormons and the mormons are NOT Christians. 2. It has that feel of Hollywood tainting and that's what I mean in it if a movie with this kind of plot is going to made it must be made careful and Guided by Christ every step of the way because one wrong move can make it an abomination because Hollywood will since it is run by Satan he will try to convince the filmmakers that doing it The Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ's Way is no good it has to have movie magic it has to be as Scorsese coined the Avengers movies amusement park film. 3. Is the director is bad and Hugh Grant who is a very good actor is miscast and the film would work just as good with ONE Believer rather than two and the writing is bad like Road House. So good plot bad movie. I'd rate it by the trailer a D and the only reason I give it that is I want to see it to see how bad it is other than that avoid it.
