It's so cool to see someone transform from a "normal" person, to someone who cares so deeply about fitness and inspires other people to try their best no matter the situation they find them self in.

ok, its a couple of days after Hyrox Manchester 2023. I'm walking like John Wayne and struggling to get up from my seat. You my friend are responsible for the way I'm feeling this morning :-). This video is what motivated me to try Hyrox. I loved and hated it at the same time. Probably one of the toughest things I've done. I came close to bailing on the burpees, that was awful. I got as far as the wall balls but had nothing left. I'd never seen or tried wall balls before but it takes energy and strength and I'd left that behind on other workouts, ha ha. I managed what I thought was about 15 or 20 throws, only for my spotter to say "nope, thats 3 valid throws". At this point I couldnt face another 2 or 3 hundred in order to register 100 valid ones, so bailed. Great day, totally exhausting. Might do it again one day with a little more practice.

I hope so-my worry was that it would come across like something for serious serious sports people but there was so many “normal” folk there. And they are almost more inspiring than the elite people. Takes some balls to be out of shape and rock up at something like that and compete with shirtless jacked people running around everywhere 👍🏼

What a great video! First time watching you Mark but amazing. I’m at the beginning of my journey (38 and 18 stone) and was at Hyrox in Manchester… I finished 465th at 2hrs 13mins. Seeing someone smash it like you is really amazing and I’m heading to London trying to get under 2 hours. You’re really inspiring for someone like me! Oh and simply a great video explaining Hyrox… leading up to the event I could have really done with something this in-depth.
@MarkLewisfitness2 жыл бұрын
Say hi if you spot me in London 👍🏼. And the amazing thing for you is that every time you do a Hyrox you will smash your previous best. It’s not an event that is massively impacted by your age either (which is handy as I’m nearly 50) so you have years and years to just carry on improving.
@jriki23232 жыл бұрын

Congrats Big Man, this was a fun watch. The way you look at the small victories and use that as motivation is inspiring. I’m a time conscious guy myself, I appreciated that in the video.

This looks absolutely mental but unlike the Spartans, I reckon I could do everything (although the wallballs would be bloody tough). I really like how you haven't taken yourself too seriously and have made it accessible for all. It's good to highlight these things and I'm looking at signing up for one based on this. I'm a typical sprinter cyclist physique (185cm, 80kgs), so I'd struggle with anything too heavy on the arms but it looks like really good fun.
@MarkLewisfitness2 жыл бұрын
The thing that always got me about Spartans was that so many people leave having failed an obstacle. I’m not sure going home having failed something, even if it’s only a bit of the overall race, is that great. I still love them, I just wish there was a better solution than saying “nope, you can’t do that so start doing Burpee‘s”

Thanks Mark for this and all your other amazing videos. I’ve been a runner and cyclist for the last 20 years, and have a similar build to you! (But female). I started training at a Hyrox specific gym 6 weeks ago and it has changed my life and my running. Running my fastest half marathon times pre kids and I am 42 now. My mate who got me to the hyrox training gym asked me to sign up to Hyrox when I had only had one session (and was nearly sick!). I wasn’t sure as it sounded like some elite training thing that I would not have the time for. Your videos have persuaded me that it’s doable and fun. I am doing Hyrox London in November as just missed out in the May tickets. So I just wanted to thank you. I loved your other video re binge eating- very entertaining and humble. Have a great 2024 🎉

I've never been vaguely interested in OCR but this looks like a great challenge to do. Great video as always
@MarkLewisfitness2 жыл бұрын
Very different feel to OCR. Any random person is much more likely to find something that appeals on this than most OCR events. I love doing OCR but do accept that it is basically a muddy trail run for 99% of it and that does not tick everyone's box!
@JustMark117.42 жыл бұрын
Great video highlighting an event I never knew existed. Thanks for the in-depth review! As a late 50's lifelong runner who's wanting to do more full body conditioning, Hyrox is highly appealing. As I get older I'm realizing I need to focus on "total fitness" a lot more than I have in the past. I'm a typical distance runner build (skinny, and not a Spring chicken anymore) so I'll need to take my time building the functional strength for this. The events look challenging but completly doable with some work. I think it might be Hyrox 2023 for me!

This sounds like just my cup of tea and ideal for data nerds! I must admit the weight levels had me scratching my head a bit; I've done both farmer's walk and sled push at my gym and for the former, 24kg per hand seemed perfectly doable. But I did a double-take at the sled push! I've tried reps over 10 metres (all the space available) with sled+40kg and I could actually get some speed going. Sled+50 was noticeably slower and sled+60 was a proper slog. I'm not sure I could even move it with 125! (I'm 6ft and 80kg btw). Either my gym got their carpet from a closed-down nightclub or I have some serious training to do if I want to get into Hyrox...

Just discovered you yesterday (thanks to your half marathon world record video- brilliant BTW!) and would NEVER have dreamed of looking at something like a Hyrox event but you've got me almost tempted. 😂 I'm still a loooooong way off anything like this, I'm very much still in the phase of being absolutely delighted by a new parkrun PB (sub 30 earlier this year for the first time was the best feeling ever), and am pushing myself by aiming for a half marathon in September (I've discovered that I really like getting a medal at the end). This looks so cool though, maybe I'll be brave enough to give it a try in 2023! Thanks for making it seem so accessible.
