It’s a miracle!!! Finally a marriage counselor who tells the client that they straight up need to get the hell out.
@zebnemma
@zebnemma 2 жыл бұрын
It happened to my mom 20 years ago when her marriage to my dad was failing. My mom has told me she was so unwell she was on the brink of suicidal thoughts and crying every night. The counselor told my mom she needed to leave for her own mental health. I don't know if my mom ever told the counselor how in a bad shape she actually was but I think he/she could sense it anyway. So I'm glad they said that, it might have saved my moms life as she said she wanted desperately to make the marriage work. My dad isn't a horrible person or anything but he has some flaws admittedly and now 20 years later he has gotten better with some of those things. I'm glad they got divorced because after hearing inside stories from my mom about how the situation was it sounded very dysfunctional and toxic too. I think when a patient is in a bad relationship the counselor must give them "permission" to end it. After all if the patient ends up killing themselves then that's not gonna save the marriage...

This has to be a joke. No grown man would be so stupid. Okay, yeah he was stupid. I earned more than my wife for years, th Dr n about 10 yrs ago she got a new job in sales.She worked her bottom off. Now she makes about v3.5 to 4 times what I make. It does not bother me in the lease. We paid off our mortgage and are on target gone debt free by Jan. I will admit it seems to bug her. If I buy something unexpected she gets angry asking why I thought it was okay to spend her money like that. One day she was yelling at me spending money on useless stuff. I asked her straight up, " some when is buying new undies and socks a problem"? Then I calmly explain that I currently make more money than what our combined income was when we first got married. She just shook her head and walked away. We met with our financial advisor recently and he asked who was handling our financial deals as we were doing extraordinary in the last few years. She looks at me and said, oh my husband does that right now. I gave her a hard time all the way home. All that " playing" on the computer was paying off nicely.

I'm shaking my head at the depths of stupidity that the boyfriend in that story has sunken to. I'll never understand the mindset of the insecure little boys who feel as if they have to earn more than their SOs in order to feel like a man. I suppose he's done OP a favor though. If he can end a seven year relationship over a pay discrepancy it's clear he never really loved her in the first place. Now she can move on and find herself an actual man.

Not sure who is dumber the friends for being upset OP was making $300k and willing to support her ex or the ex for listening to them. I'd be cautious too if my partner came up with "So I lost my job and my visa dies. We need to marry now so I don't get deported. Sure, I'm was good with just dating when I didn't need a marriage to keep me in the country, but I can't stand the thought of going back to my family and culture." Why? That conversation alone where it was time because of her visa means illegal arrangement with the time put in to make it look good to avoid deportation and him going to jail. (And yes they put in years of work in those schemes.) She supposedly lost her high paying job, so no he wouldn't have been living in luxury on his salary supporting both of them. Her still having a job was only in her update when he didn't agree to marry her to keep her in the country.

@@selbarton You're about as bright as the boyfriend. 🤦 _"Sure, I'm was good with just dating when I didn't need a marriage to keep me in the country, but I can't stand the thought of going back to my family and culture." Why?"_ - They were together for 7 years, she'd brought up marriage _repeatedly_ & he always said 'later'. She went to university & obtained some sort of high degree that allowed her to get that job in the first place. She may have 'lost' that high paying job she had as a result of her department being outsourced, but that doesn't mean she couldn't obtain another well paying job in the US. She didn't want to be forced to go home to her terrible super religious conservative family because they're toxic idiots who didn't agree with her becoming educated & getting a high paying job (they probably wouldn't have been okay with her having ANY job outside the home), & the man she loved wasn't willing to go back with her. OF COURSE she didn't want to be FORCED to go back there. Now it doesn't matter, as she'll have another high paying job with the same company in Europe instead. _"She supposedly lost her high paying job, so no he wouldn't have been living in luxury on his salary supporting both of them."_ She mentioned having quite a lot in savings. Reading or listening comprehension is helpful, you should improve yours. He told her that the REAL issue was the misogynistic _nonsense_ his friends were whispering in his ear all the time making him feel emasculated over 'not being the provider'. This whole thing was never about a 'visa' or her doing some 'long con' as you seem to think. It was about this dude being gaslit by so-called 'friends' out of feeling okay about their pay differences, since she was the one making more. If this was REALLY about a visa, why would he give her the option of marrying IF she quit her job & got one that payed lower than his? How does that make sense?

I love the term "Weasel Words". 🤣 Though I would say the wife in this situation isn't taking the marriage seriously at all if she fooled around with 7 guys within a year of separation. Now that OP made up his mind he wants a divorce, she's sorry. Tough cookies, what the hell did she expect? Why is she upset now? Is it the drop in money nothing her? Why doesn't she mooch off of one of the other 7 guys? She showed her true colors and OP sees her for who she really is. She made her bed (7 times), she can lie, in one of them.

Control finances and control the situation. This is good because now the OP can build the life she deserves with a partner who supports her and doesn't have insecurities.

I quote OP. "I've made so much progress in therapy, and I know she has too." OP, she has not made progress in therapy, because if she had, she would have made working on your relationship a priority (as she said in the beginning of separation). I mean a outside of abuse, a therapist almost NEVER recommend divorce. As well, just the way she spoke to you at the therapists office makes me thing her attitude actually got worse. She may have never intended on working on your marraige. She may have wanted to get out there and see what other relationship she could find, or she was waiting for you to decide on divorce so she she wasn't seen as "The bad guy" to family and friends. Also, she may have been cheating on you before the separation. Either way you deserve so much more. (Edited for spell)

Story 2: I'm a US citizen who moved to Canada in 2019 to be with my then boyfriend of 3 years (now husband). I was here only on a 1 year open work visa. 6 months in we had to make a decision on how to go about getting my citizenship came up. We spoke with a lawyer and while we had a few options, marriage was the 'easiest' way for me to get in. Luckily for me my boyfriend had decided to propose though this escalated the timeline a bit. But we had the marriage discussion before hand and agreed it's what we both wanted when the time was right. The Canadian government decided that the time was right and we were married in less than a month. Still took over a year and a half to get PR status and thousands of dollars. All this to say, I'm sure they had the marriage discussion before, 7 years is a long time not to have it at least brought up. So I can't imagine the shock of him turning around and throwing an accusation of her only wanting a green card. Not surprised to find out he's an ex now especially after he basically told her with his actions that he didn't care if she got sent back to her own country

S1. "She was crossing a line by telling me what to do." That just makes me incredibly sad. Shouldn't that be the point of therapists? To go to them for guidance? But they are simply trained to be puppets and tell you what you want to hear. That's called conning people. S2. I find it so sad that people ruin good relationships simply because their friends are jealous. He's never going to have a good relationship with those friends.

The first one makes me mad. So so so so mad. It was gut wrenching to hear that she slept with 7 other men.... I couldn't even think of other men if I was trying to actively to repair a marriage. This is like the Ross & Rachel 'we were on a break'. There is no bigger disrespect to the time spent together than sleeping with someone else just because you can or because you can't control your own actions.
