First Story: Unfortunately, OP will NEVER find any woman as "beautiful on the inside" as Lily because the woman he is thinking about never existed. His memories of her and their relationship are pure fantasy. Bluntly, if Lily were really all that "beautiful" on the inside, she wouldn't have treated him like this in the first place. No woman will ever live up to the fantasy woman he's created in his memory.

Yuuup. This really feels like they had been together for so long and at such a young age that neither of them ever developed a personality independent of each other. To him to accept that Lily wasn't the great amazing person on the inside that he has built her up to be, would be like admitting HE'S not actually a good person on the inside. As she's a part of him as far as he's concerned.

unfortunately that’s the cognitive distortion that happens with toxic relationships. He’s putting her on a pedestal because he’s still emotionally scarred from the break up and wants her back so instead of thinking logically and objectively, his emotions are distorting the truth and, whether consciously or subconsciously, he’s giving himself reasons to get back with her. it’s like a war between rationality and emotion

Yeah he needs to get some real help. Because he seriously said that Lily is the kindest soul he's ever met. Bro she isn't kind. She was NEVER kind. A kind person wouldn't treat someone like that. She's a selfish person. And the fact he is so blind proves to me that he isn't in love with lily. He's in love with the idea he has of lily. Even if he were to get back together with her she could never measure up to the idea he has of her in his mind because she has flaws and imperfection and is pretty f****** selfish. He hasn't realized yet that she was NEVER who he thought she was. She wasn't a good person who made a mistake. She was a selfish person who used him. But he is completely unable to see it because he's suffering from something called The nostalgia factor. Which is that the farther you get from a breakup the more blind you become to the emotional pain this person caused you and the more blind you are to the flaws of them and the relationship. He needs to receive therapy to deal with his codependency and to help him realize that he needs to grieve the future he will never have with her because the Lily he was in love with never existed at all. It sounds like he has her on a pedestal and it's going to ruin his life if he doesn't get out of this mindset. Because no other woman, no matter how wonderful and perfect for him she is, can ever measure up to the idealized version of Lily. Lily can't even measure up to that version. Unfortunately I have a feeling that he's going to have to learn the hard way and he is going to get back together with her. She'll probably be on her best behavior at first and he's going to marry her quick they're going to pop out a few kids and only after that is when she's going to get bored again leave him or most likely start cheating on him. And then he's going to have to deal with a divorce, raising kids, on top of dealing with his codependency. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it since it's been 2 years and he still isn't over it

All three of these couples are still happily married 10-20 years later. Not everyone breaks up over some huge issue. None of my examples had cheating/etc. Some people are not in the right stage of life or haven’t finished growing and need more time. I absolutely agree with not being someone’s plan B.

Story 3: YTA. 1) What's a good reason to cancel an invitation? An emergency such as your partner got in a car accident and has been hospitalized. That's considered perfectly normal, and the bride and groom are TA for not saying "Oh, you poor thing, yes, go to him. It would be great if you could be back for the wedding, but send us an update three days before if you can't and we'll understand." 2) You canceled her plane tickets. I'm honestly surprised she didn't just camp out at the airport until she could get on a flight. How could she ever possibly trust you people again? I wouldn't be surprised if she never comes home.

Yknow I was immediately reminded of an earlier story where OP and her dad missed her sister’s wedding because her stepsister fell off her horse and there were people bashing them for that and saying there was favoritism because OP was closer with her stepsister than her bio sister And this is the exact same scenario but Reddit changes tune completely 🤦‍♀️
@jenniferhanses7064
@jenniferhanses7064 2 жыл бұрын
@@Boundwithflame23 I did not participate in that one. I would say, in that scenario, that it makes sense to rush to the one in a hospital, but that I would hope the father could leave the OP to watch the injured step while he attended the wedding, knowing that between the hospital and the OP she was being well cared for if the hospital wasn't predicting her imminent demise. Because I would be sad for the bride if her father couldn't walk her down the aisle, though I'd understand if the step were on death's door at that point. The past ten days, my father has been in the hospital (I'm not going to go into details, so let's just say perils of old age). He's not prone to crying, but this time, if he was left alone he'd cry because he was scared. If, hypothetically, I were getting married, obviously he couldn't come, plus either my mom or one of my two sisters would have to stay with him and be unable to attend, and that's just the way things would be. However, as only one out of the three of them needs to be at the bedside (and with covid restrictions only one is allowed to sit with him), I would hope the other two would come. In the case you presented, one person could have stayed and the other attended if it weren't entirely dire. In the OP story, there is only one person to go. But if they'd allowed her to go and tend to him and reassure herself, she might have happily returned to be a bridesmaid rather than this cruel keeping the two of them apart thing.

Is there anything we can do, do you need a ride? Do you need us to make calls?" How can people be so careless? In case anyone is wondering, they weren't sure how it was gonna go at first but, he made it through luckily.

Story 3 made me so angry! Either OP is not worthy enough to know the details of the daughters relationship or just plays it down to validate their own actions (as in the mindset, that if they're not that serious it's not that big of a deal if she doesn't go visit him). OP cancelled her flight and forced her to attend the wedding. That is so controlling! As has been said in the reddit comments, missing a wedding because someone you care about has had an accident is the most valid reason to miss a wedding. Bridezilla and groomzilla blasting them passive-aggressively on social media shows that that side of the family is toxic too. I bet they'd expect everyone to make excuses and accommodations for them if one of them had an accident/got sick. But someone else's partner is apparently not worth the same courtesy. I'm not surprised they're on OP's side of the family. OP deserves the daughter going no or low contact and I hope she does the same to the rest of that side of the family.

Yes, thank you, I was thinking this. She would have been a despicable person if she had outright cheated. She was away from him for the first time in her dating life, and for the first time encountered new possibilities and situations. How she handled it wasn't great, but she did break up with him first before she attempted to find out if she might try another path, and it turned out horribly. One encounter destroyed both of them; they both feel used for different reasons and neither will ever be the same for it. I noticed in a lot of these comments that people called her a despicable monster, but judging from the way she seemed after she ruined everything, losing twenty pounds, dropping out of grad school, and being severely depressed...no, not a monster, just a human who took a very human risk that didn't pay off, and the bad way she handled the breakup first ensured that her lifelong love didn't want her back. Scurrying back to him after one bad encounter suggests that she wasn't very mature yet, but neither of them were after having been so sheltered their whole lives. He is prone to pedestal-building and forgot people are human beings. Ten years from now, they'll both probably meet and have a lot to talk about, especially about how they had both needed to grow the hell up. Had she never been apart from him, it might have all come crashing down anyways, because he's built her up so perfectly, and she'd be so uptight from never knowing what else life can offer, that one slip from either one of them would have been catastrophic.
@MN-jw7mm
@MN-jw7mm Жыл бұрын
Not a monster, but still a bad person, and also incredibly stupid. It says a lot that her mom didn't sugarcoat her behavior at all compared to the actual OP. @ZeoViolet
@ZeoViolet Жыл бұрын
@@MN-jw7mm It goes for anyone of any gender who get the sudden idea that they are an adult, in a monogamous relationship their whole young lives so far, and was struck with the sudden new idea (late for a human life) that there was more out there they might have missed out on. OP made her into a Madonna, forgot she was a human being and not a statue of perfection, and she slipped up with one mistake destroying the both of them because they were both very, very immature and sheltered. Had they both known more of the world while still being exclusive to each other, it might not have happened. Had she quelled the urges temporarily, but made one slipup afterwards because _she's a human being,_ his built-up Madonna-whore complex where she's concerned would have ruined them both either way. Never, ever build up your SO to an image of angelic, divine perfection, no matter how good a person they truly are. It becomes a powder keg and nothing good can be built on top of imagined perfection. Seeing each other, warts and all (we all have a few, no matter how good we are), makes for a stronger partnership that can endure a few bumps, and far less likely that one of those bumps will be infidelity. They were both young, both very immature from sheltered lives, and both have a LOT of growing up to do, or they'll never keep lasting relationships.

And OP didn't see the hypocrisy of saying "you can't put some man above your family" when the event he was forcing her to attend was a WEDDING? Literally ADDING a new person to the family. SO i say: if you need therapy, be aware that you need to find the good ones and it can take time, cose most times the good ones have long waiting list, cose the are good. the best tip i got was: if a therapist is easy to get to, most times it has a reason why he has the time.

She never cheated. She broke up with OP before ever pursuing anything with another person. That’s by definition NOT cheating. I do think OP shouldn’t get back with her, they were together since they were kids and he should explore who he is as a person separate from her. Besides an ex is not someone you get back together with, it’s someone you learn from and move on

Last story = One commenter said that he has seen people go no contact for less. I am one person who has gone no contact with my brothers for less than that. I would not only go no contact, but I would also tell everyone that OP was dead.

Story 1: we have to start teaching people that their school relationships won't last. Friendships, dating, whatever. You WILL grow apart and become different people. You can still be friends even keep contact but things will not be the same between childhood and adulthood. Trying to keep a relationship that started in EIGHTH GRADE together is bonkers. This was practically inevitable. And I say this as a person whose oldest friendship is 30 long. We aren't each others best friend any more and that's OK. People grow up and grow apart with experience. It's even worse in dating because from that age because you don't get to explore and experience life and you start to feel like you are missing something whether you are or not. You need experiences to learn and staying in one relationship from your teen years to your whole life is the antithesis to that.

I believe that as well. We all grow more branches to the tree as we come of age and in time, the two trees will likely grow out of synch.

Story 1: It's a situation that sucks and I hope that five years later since the last update, that life is so much better. Yeah, they were right to set the boundaries that they did and to distance themselves and hopefully move forward.

He’s had Lily on a pedestal and not even cheating can shake her off it in his mind. Yeah, what he had with her might have been good at one point. But she decided to chase someone else and when that didn’t work out, run back to OP. She thinks of their relationship as a comfort blanket. I think she’s one of those people who physically cannot be single. She always assumed OP would be there and is now in shock because she’s realised he won’t be a permanent second choice. She’s not a good person. If she felt she’d settled down into a long term relationship too early, she could have explained it to OP and ended it. Instead, she lied, slept with someone else and then came back. She doesn’t love OP. She fell out of love with him but stayed because it was convenient.

Story one; that boy needs therapy. He's so toxically obsessed with the notion that there can be no other person who gets to know him as he is today as well as his ex did who knew him IN CHILDHOOD. Granted, feeling understood at ages thirteen through 21 are meaningful when you're young, but once you're in your thirties like I am, you realize this was just a childhood friend, and they often grow apart as they become entirely different people- and there isn't anything wrong with that. It's clear the girl felt she was missing out on some new experiences and freaked out when it wasn't like how she idealized it in her head, but it was still unbelievably cold of her to break up via text message when she's known OP for over seven freaking years and is on speaking terms with his family. If anything, she proved she wasn't ready for a serious relationship with ANYBODY and that she was ESPECIALLY unworthy of OP. OP has every right to move on... But he refuses. That's why he needs therapy to help him work through his issues and the logical fallacies he's mentally constructed, along with his unfair demonization of humanity in general because ONE ex colossally f*cked up with him when she was just a child herself. Still, it doesn't entitle her to OP that she realized she messed up and she apologized. She clearly hasn't grown that much since then. Story 2: OP is NTA, but she needs to get an annulment or something, because it's pretty clear her husband would rather be sleeping with his own mom instead, if only that wasn't a social taboo. -_-; Sick, abusive bastard. Story 3: OP is the a-hole. The daughter is 27- an adult!- with enough empathy that she canceled her previously agreed upon plans in favor of an EMERGENCY situation. In life, there are priorities. Last minute emergencies TRUMP WELL MADE PLANS, EVERY TIME. :) It was not OPs call to cancel his ADULT DAUGHTERS FLIGHT just because her bridezilla cousin threw a massive public meltdown over OPs daughter canceling WEEKS in advance to take care of her emergency situation. Did Bridezilla's mother publicly apologize to OPs daughter after publicly berating her for wanting to cancel on the wedding until she was LITERALLY KIDNAPPED and FORCED to attend as a HOSTAGE?! No wonder the daughter wants nothing to do with the rest of the family. OP is just as bad as they are: OP is hardcore the a-hole. YTA all day, every day. It couldn't be clearer!

Story 3: OP can forgot about having a daughter, any dreams of walking her down the aisle or even meeting his grandchildren, the fact that she is not answering her phone makes me believe she already blocked them and cut them off, I wouldn’t be surprised if OP returns home only to find out that his daughter has already moved out/taken everything she own/need

Story 3: the daughter is 27! That “some guy” may be the man she marries! At that age, relationships are serious. There may already be plans to announce a proposal that we’re waiting to be made after her cousin’s wedding. OP and his family will not be getting invitations to her wedding or anything else in her life.
