Someone I know used to adopt cats and let them outside. Their house backed up on a busy street and was close to a canyon known to have coyotes, snakes, local kids playing target practice with anything that moved, frequent brush fires, and all matter of other hazards to cats. Their cats never lasted long. Even when their children begged to keep the cats indoors, they wouldn't allow it. Eventually, between the kids getting so upset at losing beloved pets and the person's spouse wanting a dog, they stopped adopting cats. (The dog was a nightmare, but that's another story.) I don't understand why someone would choose to adopt and love creatures they knew from experience wouldn't be around long. I _really_ don't understand why anyone would put their kids through that kind of repeated heartbreak.

Why are you taking a biased quote at face value when you know the guy ended up divorced? And why would that be a surprise that a teen had more apparent consequences from their perspective? She was a home wrecker, so she was social poison. And girls that age generally have no money or career of their own yet. Whereas a guy in his 30s generally has a career and finances to fall back on at minimum.

The way I understood it, the 19 yr old was devastated by the break up. She evidently healed, went to school and married and had a kid. His daughter and Sophie's daughter became friends at school. So jack and Sophie became sort of friends. Then Jack remarried and Sophie's husband died. Jacks new wife got caught drunk kissing some random dude in a bar. Jack ran to Sophie for legal advice( I call be on this) and comfort. His feel hi Mrs were hurt. He came on to Sophie and she denied him and told him to work on his marriage. Jack went thru the motions but was still running back to Sophie for "advice". In summary, Jack regrets marriage to OP and now that Sophie is available wants her instead of his wife. Then they all start being jerks and drag the kids into it. Jack was never serious about resolving his marital problems. He just wanted to spend time with Sophie. Now he is divorcing buys wife of two years. I predict he will profess his love for Sophie and she will turn him down and friend zone him. Goid job Jack.

They're too busy telling her the that she's the only one to blame. Op's husband is a creepy AH. Is not the first time I see people ignoring cheating when is the man who did. People are going as far as to say that he's not cheating now, that Sophie is just a friend, like, c'mon. Everyone knows that if the genders were reversed, and was Op the creep who keeps in contact with her "ex" affair partner, everyone would jump straight to accusations. And besides, she told his daughter about the affair, people always claim that children need to know why their parents divorced, now she knows her father cheated on her mother. I don't believe not even for a second that he wasn't cheating with Sophie, he made very clear that he doesn't respect Op (even before her drunk kiss) nor his first ex wife. I give 2 to 3 weeks for Sophie moving in with Op's ex husband.

They had mutual trust issues to work on but he wanted to ignore her trust issues with him. That man has no remorse for his previous affair, no accountability, and no respect for OP. Are you fucking kidding me? The affair happened 15 years prior to the post…15 YEARS. People can change A LOT after 15 years of life. OP literally cheated in their current marriage that’s been going on for less than 2 years. What are these mental gymnastics you’re trying to pull to justify OP or make OP’s husband out to be the bad guy??? If she didn’t trust her husband to not cheat, then she should have either never got with him, or just end the marriage. This is what OP’s ex has decided to do. OP tried to make completely unsubstantiated claims to his daughter that this woman that cheated with her father 15 years prior is the reason they are getting a divorce, when in fact, IT WAS BECAUSE SHE CHEATED. Then, out of spite, she decides to share with OP’s daughter about her father’s past infidelity WHICH SHE HAD NO RIGHT TO DO. OP is the one and only asshole in this story.

1st Story: ESH OPs hubby had and affair 15 yrs. ago (when he was 36) w/ a 19 (edited as I originally thought I heard/read she was 17) yo. Yes, he IS an effin predator. While the kids aren't related, the timing is still suspect. The fact that they have remained 'friends' after the affair is also very suspect. The SD, Elle, wants to know if she was the cause of their breakup, but is told that it was because her dad, OPs hubby, may still be cheating. Even if he wasn't physically cheating, he def was emotionally cheating. You don't talk to an ex about your current marital probs. That is an obvious betrayal and 'cheating'. While OP is insecure, she put herself in this situation by becoming involved and then marrying the affair partner. Oh, and cancelling the marriage counselor is an obvious ploy to deflect from the guilt of having an affair. 2nd Story: Why is OP being chased from HER home. It should be the ex- that stays in the hotel and the ex- can visit... if she quits with the games and makes eye contact. OP has to stop making excuses for her hubby. He IS shady AF. No one kicks out their spouse for an ex.

If she doesn't then she needs to move out & move on with someone that's not a known cheater. Bottomline she put herself in this position by being with someone that was a known cheater that is still close with the AP. Edit: So she's a cheater too. Not to the same extent but wow all three of them suck & have little hope for daughters not repeating this behavior in future. Probably hear from one or both of the daughters struggling to justify their own infidelity in the future.

1. If OP couldn’t get past an affair then she should have to BUT she needed to leave. She can’t force Husband to stop. The same for him, he can’t make her stop believing the things she does, he needed to leave. Now, OP was completely in the wrong bringing Sophie into this. OP kept saying that Sophie was asking… so she answered. No, OP vented to her step-daughter. A child should not have to carry the weight of that around, being angry at everyone and getting into a physical fight. She did not have the emotional or mental tools to accept that info. (Most adults don’t but we know we must regulate ourselves) If dad and bio mom didn’t tell their minor children the reasons for divorce… it’s NOT OP place to do so

I still can't blame op. If my husband was carrying on an emotional affair with a previous affair partner I wouldn't be comfortable either. Im also really torn about dragging the kids into it. I fear that op would be the bad guy otherwise even if she said "my father and I have our own issues we tried eo work through. But this is not your fault." I wouldn't feel comfortable in that marriage because my boundaries would never be respected

I’m of the belief that OP said those things because he said he wanted a divorce, so what does it matter if I really implode everything around me. She’s hurt that he put Sophie ahead of everything in their short marriage, including discussions he should have had with her and not Sophie, so she told his daughter it was Sophie’s fault and she thought they were having an affair. I didn’t agree either with dragging the daughter into their mess. She should have been the bigger person and left with her head held high!

Why are you victimizing OP. She married him knowing about the friendship. The time to have an issue is before to get married not after and let that cause the downfall in the the marriage. ESH including the the sd, yeah OP deflected on the reason for the divorce (hiding her affair), but everything that OP told the sd was true and part of the reason for the divorce, so, yeah, ESH in my opnion, OP for the kiss (to me is cheating) and maniputaling the narrative, Jack for the relantionship with ex-affair partner (once a cheater always a cheater, lack of character, and the 16 years diference with the ex-affair (kinda creeppy)), Sofia for affair in past (same as Jack on the "once a cheater, always a cheater" lack of character) and keep the relationship on the present, and the SD for asking the reason for the divorce (it was not her place to ask, specially if she didnt want to hear the answer) and cus she unfairly judge severely OP and apparently easly forgiving her father and Sofia (maybe).

Geez, I can agree that the kiss was wrong, but sure wouldn’t call one kiss an affair. I agree everybody sucks in this one, but husband and Sophie are definitely having something, even if emotional affair relying on each other for comfort and “advice”. How many people do you know that were previous partners that live next door to each other? I don’t know of any and most people don’t want to see their ex’s on a daily basis.

Story 1: I feel bad for Sophie. It feels like her life has been held captive by this older man who decided to have an affair with her when he was almost twice her age, let her be isolated, and now probably the only one she can turn to after her husband has passed. This man literally has had a hold over her entire adult life, she needs to see that and move on.

Man, that first story was wild. It sounds like OP got nakkered and kissed that other guy because she was already upset then about her husband still being friends with the AP, but that doesn't excuse the cheating. I personally don't think you can weigh cheating against an affair, both involve betraying your partner, but I find it very amusing that a man who had an affair got so butthurt over his wife drunkenly smooching someone that he nuked the whole marriage. Pot calling kettle, tbh.
