I am totally scared from a car wreck thanks to a drunk driver lost 89 percent of my teeth and my eye lashes never totally grew back. Now disable cause of it my boyfriend walked out on me cause of those things said I was too ugly now for him. Well 22 years later I got my frist car after wreck and driving once again I may be ugly yet least I am alive and I got 9 amazing rescue cats. And found out ex boyfriend is now bald and fat and still trying to pick up beautiful woman and can't figure out why they refuse a great catch like him. My husband loves my scars - the facial burn scars, the one where I fell through a glass table and cut most of my face up, the chemical burn scar down the side of my neck from a medication that almost cost me my life, the dental issues from my genetic conditions, and my landscape of scars on my abdomen (there's more, those are the most prominent). He doesn't like the horrible conditions they came from, but he knows the fights each involved to stay alive in SPITE of the horrors. Keep being strong. There's a beautiful world out there, full of awesome people who understand that 'model perfect' is boring.

The way he acted seemed like a narcissist, though his actions could have been driven by a Machiavellian drive to scam OP out of money. Like I realize it might seem like the plot of some story, but he could have had an idea of going out and tricking OP into marriage, then claim something like abuse or cheating. He then gets spousal support as she makes more then him, then hook back up with his ex. Either way with her being *needed* to pay for the apartment I would still be he was with her for the money. I'm so glad that "Elle" was so strong and optimistic through the situation. I, personally, would have gotten some type of petty revenge at least, but she took the high road out. She was the bigger person and so incredibly confident in herself and her independence that it seems that helped her to get past it. Her scar is a battle scar. It's a reminder of a traumatic experience that she has worked through and has no insecurities about. It's a reminder that she nearly lost her life, but survived...was given a 2nd chance at life eventhough her friend didn't make it. In which case, it probably also makes her friend proud that she has persevered in her life and is using the 2nd chance she has living to the best of her ability. I mean, I'M proud of Elle and I don't even know her. She sounds amazing!

I've seen in hindsight with myself the loving and kindness being a gift and a curse for me because people take advantage of me, use me and all that to benefit themselves. I'm savvy enough that it is usually just them trying to use me because I'm loving, and them trying to get by with someone, they think will be a doormat, and in some ways, I am, until I get enough. I grew up tomboy, so it usually isn't pretty for them. I got accused of fighting in school the year before my Dad passed. Usually this would have been true, the fighting that is, but I was kind of maturing out of fight being my immediate response and I saw and heard a coach coming so I did nothing. Just as the coach grabbed this kid, I was fixing to black out from being choked/loss of oxygen black out. The guy had kicked his sister between the legs and then punched her in the stomach. I held her up and him off while coach was coming but since I wouldn't let him get to his sister, he had started choking me. The principle did not like me, though I don't know why. other than sticking up for myself and smaller kids, I was a good kid, good student. ANYWAY, he suspended me from school. Monday Dad went down and said get the coach in here she wasn't fighting, and he is a witness. Principle said no, blah, blah. Dad said get the coach in here now or I'll stick you in a ring with her right now so you can learn the difference between her fighting and not fighting because she'll kick your ass from one corner to the next, now, are you going to call the coach over or are you choosing the ring? My Dad didn't cuss, and I didn't know he thought I fought that well!!! The chicken called the superintendent who brought the coach in and whose office we walked over to, and the situation was handled in. The chicken tried to get me in trouble a couple of more times by accusing me of fighting but there was always a teacher nearby to prove I didn't start anything and was actively trying to escape being trapped in the middle of something or that I was nowhere even close to it happening ever especially not when it did, so he finally gave up. He did get demoted 3 years later for at minimum saying inappropriate things to female students. He had tenure so it was very hard to get rid of him, so they created a job they kept him away from all students at all times, and that was Bus Barn supervisor, which put him in charge of bus routes, maintenance and such to do with the buses. This was in the 80s just before they started arresting and pressing assault and battery charges against students for fighting, especially in HS. Mama Bear is kind of a good description of me now, or hellcat/Tasmanian devil if I'm pushed into felling personally threatened and in immediate danger!!! I'm only 5'2" but what makes me a difficult opponent is my mind stores all past fight mistakes and/or what would have worked better and what worked great, then fixes and stores them for all future altercations. While fighting my mind is about 90% clear on what is going on around me and how to react to this and that are all playing in the 90% while the physical reactions is carried out by the other 10% which is following instructions from the 90% to dish out externally for protection and defeating the other person or people.

Sometimes it can be easier to stay anonymous and have someone who they can talk to. Some don't like being judged and feel family and friends will, so easier to hide behind a screen and just let it out. Also you get opinions from strangers and they will tell you how it is without knowing you, family give biased opinions.

Totally understand what you mean but I turned to reddit myself the same day as my Father passed away. Seems strange I know, but I just wanted to let it all out. The year of watching someone going through everything they did, the care, the mental strain on everyone had just built up. I wasn't sure what I was looking for really but it felt relief to just type it all out and talk to people who were going through similar experiences, to know I wasn't alone.

I would have at least sent him a screenshot of what I found then blocked him. Let him realize how badly he fucked up and let him live with it. By not saying anything, he could just brush it off. He may not even remember the whole "vanilla" thing so that could have gone over his head entirely. Hell, I would have printed out that email and set it with the ice cream to make sure he did remember.
