This story is very soap opera like. Patrick was so obsessed with David that he screened her communications for weeks. She left for France to study with a baby on the way. And what parent wouldn't cuss David out for getting their girl pregnant and going on his merry way over almost FIVE Years. It just seems to have a lot of gaps that don't line up.

Well, the only thing making me hesitate to judge is that Op is not from the US, Canada or the UK, or even Europe for that matter. We don't know what the social norms are where she is from and the repercussions of single parenthood, blah, blah. But the commenter trying to put this all on Op must be Patrick or a friend of his. This wasn't on Op even 50%. I noticed that David never attempted to contact her while she was in France for four years.

I sincerely hope this is fake because it's just depressingly irresponsible otherwise. "I didn't want to go to his parents and tell them"--so you like his mother so much, but you don't think she deserves to know her grandchild? That just doesn't make sense, and if it's true, it's needless cruelty because of 'stubbornness and pride'. I also have a hard time believing her parents would never stop and think "Hey, this is ridiculous" regardless of the begging and tell his parents.

Girl went to his apartment called texted left emails the only thing she didn't do was scream it from the roof top until everyone he knowed because. There's such a thing as privacy. And she explained it she don't want him to be forced to be a father Because that would hurt her on the child which yeah it does. There's literally nothing more. She could have done except give up on her education for this guy which is always a red flag when a guy wants you to give up an education. Like that's the thing that I don't think people understand he did not want her to leave. He chose to cut contact only after that did his brother delete everything. That's the thing that bothers me. @@saratronusShe could have called him even once while she was in France, instead of pretending that he never existed. Even at the end she's making excuses to keep herself the victim. Part of me actually wonders if the only reason she is letting David see the daughter is because his brother knows and can possibly make her life a living h*ll if she kept David away. After all, she was hesitant about David meeting their daughter first and is still not trusting him despite him providing evidence of his innocence.

If David's dad really was just as bad as Patrick, then their mom wasn't so "wonderful" for having stayed married to him all this time and for always telling people to "just ignore him." Too many women that are generally thought of as "wonderful" just go around enabling the shitty men in their lives. This dynamic feels more typical of my grandparents' generation, but given OP's age, the mother is probably closer to my age (I'm 44).

HE broke up with HER and she did what she could to get in contact with him when she had no idea where he was. It wasnt A text and A email, she continually tried to get in touch with him for WEEKS before her trip. Granted, she could have gone to his parents but I also understand not wanting to drag them in when you believe that you're being ignored by the father of your child after a rough breakup. She's no villain, she was a kid who's boyfriend wanted her to choose between him and her future and was thown a very sudden curveball that would be tough to deal with at any age. She is not the bad guy for initially choosing her future, especially when she was prepared to cancel it completely had she been able to get in contact with him about her pregnancy. She believed she was being ignored after weeks of attempting to contact him so of COURSE she's gonna choose to leave her small town where everyone is gonna have some awareness and judgement of her private business, where there are constant reminders of the man she believed wanted nothing to do with her anymore. She definitely didn't handle things perfectly but calling her a VILLAIN is crazy.

If it is true indeed: That still makes her irresponsible and too immature at the very least. Like heck yea she'd have to stay home. She's pregnant. Carrying another living being. At that point life stops being about you and starts being about your child. That's what parenthood is. Can't go on your romantic "studying abroad in France" trip? Too fucking bad because you're going to be a mother soon.

Ok, so. She told David only via one email that she was pregnant. After 1 week without answer she moves to France, changes her email address, phonenumber and cuts off everyone from hometown but her parents. She refuses to go for child support and forbids her parents from telling Davids parents. OP 4 years later: surprised Pikachu face when David finds out he has a kid he never knew about. Edit: This is the kind of plots you read in novels, I guess now on Reddit too.

She didn't change her email address just her number and that's normal. Some mobile phone companies in Europe won't support you long term in a different country. My sister had to get a new phone and change number 6 months after moving. Not saying the rest isn't suspicious but people keep call the number change out when it's not that strange.

@@sfsin3380it's obvious a lot of people have never moved abroad. I did an exchange year in the Netherlands, only one year, closed my UK mobile account as the roaming costs were so high (early 2010s before the roaming legislation) got a dutch PAYG number while there then got a new UK number when I came back. Keeping the foreign number is pointless if you're moving for more than a few weeks/couple of months especially if it's contract and not PAYG, which I think a lot of US phones seem to be.

So let me get this straight, he set a boundary that long distance is a relationship ender, you decided to go through with it, which is fine.. but then you find out youre pregnant and instead of doing the responsible thing and making 100% sure david knows, meeting him in person or going to his parents you decide fuck it and deprive him of four years of knowing his daughter, damage his reputation and potentially ruin any stable relationship he could have had with his daughter who will come to resent him at some point to some degree, youre at fault as much as his brother is, you could have gone to his mother who you say is a kind person you could have MADE SURE HE KNEW, but you didnt you decided the mother had no right to see her grandchild you decided he had no right to see his child all because you didnt even try

Absolutely fake. - didn't tell the grandparents - didn't go to their family house - didn't try anything else in 4 years - changed all her contact info yet cries that he never tried to contact her - claims they're in a small town but somehow only just now sees him after being home a while - has a baby abroad and has the money to pay for all that while not covered under that country's healthcare and not from a well off family - says she hasn't seen him in 4 years (when she got pregnant) but the kid is also 4. So she gave birth immeidately? - overly detailed flowery language you don't use when describing your own lived situations - obviously written by a bot or teen that watches too much of the Hallmark movies.

Interesting. This EXACT story appeared on a forum I frequented 5 years ago. A Korean forum. The difference of course were names and that her university in Seoul had, along with university in France, awarded her a scholarship to study literature and journalism. She took pieces of other forum members lives they had shared and had woven a story so incredible that it was mind boggling. She changed the details each time she discussed it.

It kind of sounds like to me that she didn’t want to push telling David because she was determined to study in France, even though she wrote a book to say otherwise. I agree with the comment about her not taking responsibility for her part. David is the one that suffered the consequences of both hers and the brothers actions but he’s the one having to prove himself. She should have tried harder to tell him but she chose not to and she had 4 years to do it.

OP is almost entirely in the wrong here. Patrick deleted the messages at first, but she changed her phone number and email and was in another country. How was he supposed to contact her. It seems like she tried to contact him that one week then didn't try at all. I think OP needed to tell David in person. She said herself some of the calls and messages didn't go through. You tell him in person, he still has ways to contact you, that's on him if he isn't in his child's life. But whatever she did was not her due diligence. 🙄 Patrick deserves some blame, but OP is trying to fully blame him. He shouldn't be in their lives, but OP dropped the ball here and needs to own it

Its interesting how the post about OP being to blame too hit the nail on the head. OPs update really clarifies how she had a major part to blame too in her daughter missing her dad for 4 years because of her pride, stubbornness and irrational decisions Like how: -She had other ways of contacting David (LIKE HIS PARENTS) but refused. -Her parents suggested many ways of her to get in contact with David even for just support but she refused. -She's been with David for so long and knew his character, but quickly just believed he would abandon her with no word of the man himself. -She lied about when her daughter was concieved and ghosted anyone who could have updated David. Patrick deserves the MAJORITY of the blame of course but OP's pride and stubbornness were to blame too. The only victims here were her child and David.

Almost certainly a fake story, but also one where the OP abandoned her bf to study, then effectively hid his child from him bc she was angry he ghosted her for a week. If a real person acted like that... they'd need to SERIOUSLY consider that "Patrick" isn't the only one who took 4 years of fatherhood away from a man.

People don’t seem to realize, when you get rejected, at the height of stress like a pregnancy, stalking people, blowing up their phones, emailing, when you have tried for months to communicate and you are blocked, you have to find a way to move on. Not everyone is comfortable with going to a partners parents/family for conflict resolution. For her, it was to cut off ties too. Blocking the bad memories. She didn’t even try to get legal help for child support, this is something I can totally see myself doing. Begging isn’t my forte, and moving on with life is more important, it’s impossible to do that if you don’t sweep the trauma under the carpet in whatever way possible. Also, wild that anyone is blaming her for bad communication on OP part. She blew up his phone, emails, stalked his house. That is ALOT of effort. Mind you, she didn’t know that he was willing to talk, she thought he was ignoring her as a crazy EX. Do you understand how traumatizing that is? How embarrassing and humiliating? All that while she was expecting! I’m shocked the pregnancy survived those first months. She is a hero. What still don’t know if I’d believe him after all the years, but I’d let him have visitation rights. Forget shared custody, forget friendship, he was too comfortable allowing his brother to “take over” for his emotional regulation after the break up. Even if she had not been pregnant and was just trying to have a closure conversation, he would have been a fucking coward for avoiding her like that. She wasn’t a bad girlfriend, she wasn’t breaking up with him for another man, she wanted to stay with him in fact, she just also wanted to do what is good for her life, but he wanted to hold her back. He sucks. He doesn’t know how to be a good person in conflict. He fled and allowed his brother to mess up his life. Fuck him. She sounds like she is missing this red clad all these years later. He may not have abandoned the child, but he sure abandoned her without looking back.

Knowing how vindictive his brother is, why TF would she think email, text, & call are the best way to tell him she was pregnant?! It’s like she wanted to hurt him by not telling him he had a daughter. Which is F ed up. He has a right to be a part of his daughters life. He wasn’t abusive or anything that would warrant it. OP tries to be this hurt little victim. While she is just as wrong as the brother. I hope she pulls her head out of her ass. I hope she loves her daughter more than she wants to hurt David. She needs to act like a parent and adult now. She wants to doubt him because then, she would be TA and not David.
