Ok while I don't agree with what op did, but with the way how he got his cousin to pretend to be a cop and start questioning everyone, he's crazy. Pretending to be a cop is a serious crime and he risked it for a nasty ass sweater. He knew it was his sweater and had more complaints about it but didn't care. The fact he never washed the thing is unsettling and weird. 100% people wash something that smells like rotting garbage or throw it away. Plus we don't know how important this sweater is. Is it a momental from a deceased family or friend, a gift from someone important, like what's so important about it that he risk his own job over it. First story. My immediate thought was - how old is this man? My mom had early dementia where obvious signs started showing at age 52. His anger reminded me so much of my mom as she traveled down that dementia path. However, my dad started showing his age or senility (?) when he didn't realize he smelled like urine. When I told him he smelled, he would look startled and tried to sniff himself. It got to the point, I would just say, "Dad, it's time to shower."

Dementia is very hard to handle as the person is not capable of acting rationally. My mother died at 91 and it became apparent my dad was having dementia problems. We hired home health care first 4 hrs a day, then 8 hrs a day with each of us siblings taking turns staying with my dad over the weekend. My father was becoming more and more paranoid. He was incontinent. I bought him a 12-alarm watch to remind him to change his pads. The watch broke and he soon didn’t change at all. He started getting angry and violent, when we tried to get him to change. My brother, who bought a new house with the intentions of moving my dad in, realized he wouldn’t be able to handle the violence. My sister found a memory-care unit and we all took turns visiting so he saw us at least 5X a week. Then the flu hit and the units were locked down, then Covid hit. No visitors. My dad spiraled down and passed in May 2020 (not Covid). He was 99 1/2 yo. His last 2 years were full of fear, violence, and anger. The man we knew as father disappeared. Do not take advantage of your remaining time with your father. Senility and dementia are terrible diseases that can rip the heart out of a family if you let it.

In reference to the first story there are several possible options: 1. The person lacks a sense of smell and therefore cannot smell it. In this case though he is in the wrong as he is ignoring the statements of his co-workers. 2. He has a mental disorder which prevented him from washing it or considers it a "lucky sweater" that he cannot do anything to (of course in this case he could have mentioned that) 3. He is just so used to it that he has convinced himself that everyone else is crazy and lying to him about the smell. 4. He has a strong stomach and likes to mess with other people. As for those who mentioned a sweater will eventually retain some smell that may be true however in this case it appears he was totally opposed to taking any action to even reduce the smell.

Bringing in a cousin was weird, I definitely would have just quit a toxic environment. But it would still be theft and destruction of property.. which would be a misdemeanor..
@LunaMane Жыл бұрын
I know I would. In comments OP says that none of her coworkers are snitches, but I hope at least one breaks ranks and tells the guy what happened so that he can personally go after OP and the company. And let's be real here; if OP was a guy who did this to a female colleague everyone would want them skinned even more and be defending the colleague then.
@lunaticbz3594 Жыл бұрын
How would a civil suit help the situation. Its not about money, he wants to find out who threw it out so he can get revenge on them. Think about the situation, he insists on wearing clothing without ever washing it, the smells so bad he's not even allowed to take it home anymore and so leaves it at work. I doubt his sanity.

Is not just a sweater is a very smelly sweater, that is garbage and if you leave your garbage at work someone would take care of it. Like tupperware, expired snacks, moldy bread. All of that are things that you own but people will take care of it as they seem fit if you neglect them.
@floraposteschild4184 Жыл бұрын
@@robertx8020 Yes, there's always one or two. For the record, I'm as likely to take action against the smelly cardie of a female as of a male colleague. Though by an office strike, not theft.

The OP in the last story should know that he is setting an example for his younger siblings not to be taken advantage of by their parents. Hopefully they will each find the strength to save their money and move out when they become of age instead of becoming parentified like the OP.

Story 1 update pissed me off “multiple people complained about the smell so I can’t narrow down the suspect” SO YOU WERE BEING STINKY ON PURPOSE??? So disrespectful, how could he say “naw my sweater doesn’t stink” if many people told him it does…. He’s disgusting

Now _that_ is a revenge story. May God have mercy on Op's enemies because she obviously don't leave no stone unturned and honestly, I'm impressed. Can't feel bad for husband, step mom and step sister since they all quite literally created this entire situation and are now facing the consequences of it. Like it's one thing to cheat but screwing over both your partner and _your father_ ? Wow.
@DaverSomethingSomething Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m impressed too. It’s rare for the one cheated on to get actual justice. Usually the cheater also steals money from the relationship in the divorce and tax fraud is a good indicator this would have gone that direction if OP’s husband had had the opportunity. Clearly he was an opportunist. OP took matters into her own hands and got her power back. Too bad it was necessary.

First story, Lysol and Febreeze. That way you don't even touch it. Start hanging those little air freshener trees 🌲 everywhere. If your boss is such a weakling, toss it on his chair on a Friday and let it stink up his office over the weekend and see if he thinks it's not that bad.

One of my favorites was where the OPs mom had remarried and was pregnant. The OP was 16 and working full time in summer and part time the rest of the year. She was told that not only did she have to share her room with the new baby and help out at night (stepdaddy needed his sleep and they needed alone time.....plus, they are adults and OP had to obey them) but she had to give her parents part of the money she earned because THEY were ALLOWING her to work so they were entitled to 80% of what she earned. First she told them she would just quit working. They told her she wasn't allowed. Then she told them she wasn't going to take care of the baby. They told her she had no choice and had to help. They also told her that the car her dad had given her for her birthday was now a "family car" and she HAD to share it with her stepbrother who was turning 16 in a few weeks......so they demanded that she give them the other set of keys. She told them her dad had the other set and they told her to get them for her brother. Instead, while they were out one day she packed her stuff up and moved to her dads house full time. Dad demanded child support and mom and stepdaddy lost their crap because they NEEDED the money they were getting from OP living with them and they needed OP to help with the baby. OP and her dad told them to F off. Two years later they were demanding that she share her college fund with her stepbrother. She just told them to piss off. Another favorite was a similar situation to the OP in the last story. Only his father remarried and he was not only required to share his room with his stepbrother who was 15, I think. The OP was like 20. He was also told he had to start paying rent. Stepbrother wasn't required to do any chores and OP had to "share" things he bought from the money he earned working. He flatly refused. He told them he wasn't going to pay rent for a shared room and he wasn't going to share a room or anything else with a stranger. His father told him he had no choice and thought that ended the discussion. That OP packed his stuff and moved in with a friend for a few weeks and got his own place. His father and new stepmother were LIVID that he didn't obey them. I think a LOT of people forget that their children are people. They don't just have to take the crap dished out forever. But more than half of the stories out there are regarding parents who really don't understand that your adult children DO NOT have to obey you. My crazy aunt was like that. She was absolutely convinced that her daughter had to ALWAYS and FOREVER obey her because it was the law. Funny thing is that SHE absolutely did NOT obey her mother. She was a nightmare to her own mother. She ended up with a daughter (only child) that moved away and broke off all contact. She would sometimes call ME and "chat" in the hopes of finding out where her daughter was....but I refused to tell her. She had no idea that her husband, her daughters technically stepfather, always knew where she was. He just always called her from an outside line.....or I called him to let him know she needed to talk to him.

Nah, Mr Stanky is just batshiite crazy. Figures.

S1) While I agree the offending item shouldn't of been touched. I would of just gathered everyone's complaint and tell the boss until further notice the offending items staying in his office. Don't want to do something about it cause it affects our health/ work stations? Have fun with doing nothing about it while it affects yours. Also pressing X to doubt that so called cousin was a police officer. Dude really stepped into it on that one. S2) OP patience to drag all that filth to where they belong is something I apsire to have. S3) Freedom to come, go and do as you please while being responsible for yourself alone or stick around and pay through the nose especially if your the only one paying out of your older siblings? Option 1 at its finest. Also OP didn't leave them in the lurch. They made a choice to pay for their own needs, in their own place and take less guff for it. Do like being responsible while paying nothing/ barely anything? Don't complain when others get tired of being put on fire to keep your ungrateful self warm.

Story 3: OP is NTA and it was high time he got out of there as his family was just using him. The 20 year old now has to take over adulting duties. Bet he regrets bitching about not being able to play on the PS5 now. Technically, the parents are the true problem here as they are using their older children to parent the younger instead of doing their job as parents and helping their adult children to leave the nest and be successful on their own. The parents need to stop making babies and start minding the ones that they have. OP needs to help his younger adult siblings get out as well. No need to stay in the house any longer than they have to. Children are not obligated to pay back their parents for raising them.
