Story 1: It is *already* a broken home. I grew up with parents that... well, their relationship should have been done before my birth. They stayed together "for the kids" until I was 12 (I am the youngest). My entire childhood was hell. Kids see a lot more than parents think, they feel the tension, and they get emotionally neglected because their parents aren't on solid ground; it can be worse than that honestly, but that is the minimum in general. So the sister is doing her kids wrong by staying with this sorry excuse of a creature, and she damn well should never have gotten pregnant again if she didn't want another one just to appease him. Bringing more children into a messed up home is not responsible, or loving.

She was going to ask anyway, but when she talked to her cousin about it to 'compare notes,' her cousin's husband said that she'd never get the brownies. When she confirmed that she would get them if she asked, he basically said, "Bet." When she made the request she was going to make regardless of her cousin's husband, he (and reddit) got mad at her for doing exactly what she was going to do, but because her husband came through like she knew he would. It wasn't about him performing or her showing off; he said that if she asked, she wouldn't get it. I grew up in a home where my mom was abused. There was a strange codependency and my mom was weak and ignorant as to how divorce laws work. She refused to air her problems to her brother, the cop who would have come with some friends and adjusted my father's attitude as she left. They remained married until he died. We wanted mom to leave but she was too weak to stand up to him. A shame, she was still attractive at 35 and men showed interest. It was only in her old age, as Dementia sets in that she got honest, and was enraged at how she stayed married so that she kept the house. A sad existence. A wasted life. If your marriage borders on abuse, real abuse, gambling, drugs, infidelity or physical abuse, or in my father's case all. Of the above get out. Your children don't want to see their mothers sad. You are not protecting them, they know what is going on and you are merely spreading your abuse onto your innocent children.

We used to live in an old city with only a few feet between the houses. We called the narrow area between our house and the livery stable "the alley" even though it wasn't wide enough to be one. The alley was a favorite place for the teenagers across the street to go to at night when they wanted to drink beer. Our daughter Tegan was in her late 20s at the time, though she looked like a teenager, so she wasn't taken seriously by teens. She would tell the kids to get out of there but they kept coming back. She took their cans and lined them up on their front porch after telling their mother she was tired of picking them up. She finally got tired of chasing them away so one night she left by the back door so they couldn't hear her and set the hose on them. Their mom's drunken boyfriend came over to confront her about it the next day, saying how awful it was to spray them with a hose, especially because it was autumn and getting chilly out. She told him they were warned and if they catch pneumonia that's on them. They actually were stupid enough to come back a few more times and got soaked for their efforts. After that they left us alone.

Something I think a lot of people need to know: *A family that stays together "for the kids" but have such an obviously skewed sense of responsibility, equality, and how to treat the person you're married to (regardless of if you're in love with them or not) is NOT less broken than one where they're divorced. Not in any way* It also teaches the kids to accept unhappiness in their lives even when they have the power to change it and that they should stick anything out even if it might not be for their benefit or might be doing them literal harm. It makes people into doormats, lazy slobs and/or, in the most extreme cases, abusers.
@PrincessQ-fj9ly Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. This mindset is very harmful in so many ways. Teaching kids to accept unhappiness, even if they can change it is NOT a good lesson to teach at all. STORY 3: *NTA* it’s water not acid. OP could’ve gone way too far and put one of those needle things on the doorbell button so when the kid goes to push it their finger get stabbed, but OP didn’t. It was just harmless water. The parents didn’t want to do anything about it, so OP did it for them.

Ding dong ditch is very common, but gets old real fast. I remember a kid was gonna do the ding dong ditch, but got scared away by my aunt's dog who was protective of his home. He never came back the second time.

Story 4: I think Mark has it basically right: OP's husband is being treated like a servant or a lapdog. It's not the husband's place to run around hell and back to get every tiny little thing you want, pregnant or not. The way this story reads, I wouldn't be surprised OP is the same kind of woman that makes her husband be the sole bread winner and the only one to do chores around the house, too.
@PrincessQ-fj9ly Жыл бұрын
Yeah. That's the vibe I was getting here. I mean I get resenting your husband during pregnancy and childbirth because he got you pregnant. But unless you're in an abusive relationship, it's not like you got pregnant against your will. Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you're entitled to abuse your husband or treat him like a bootlicking lapdog.
@bellasmom2597 Жыл бұрын
He abuses her husband; and brags about it. Being pregnant does not entitled you to be abusive.

STORY 1: *NTA* BIL is just angry that he has a put on his big boy pants and pretend to be the father he lies about being in order to put an act on for his mother. He wanted more kids because “he needs more boys“ while his wife wanted to stop. He was basically using his wife as a breeding tool so he should be more responsible with all the kids he’s responsible for pushing onto his wife into birthing for him so he can get the number of boys he wants I really hope this callout is the kick in the balls BIL severely needed to get his shit together. If not I hope his wife realizes that being a together family unit with this type of situation isn’t always the best option. Especially when the kids become old enough to catch on to what’s really happening around them. It’s better to be in a “broken home“ than a toxic family unit

I'd be livid to having to answer the door, let alone having a dog or baby. Working nights, a sick person in the home. Once is fine can be excused, but the fact that the parents didn't do anything... Nope that kid is lucky it was just water.

Getting ready for a looooong weekend, four days of having the son and husband home due to Thanksgiving. At least my husband wants to do the cooking for the menu our son came up with. 🥰 Dunno what we're going to do for three of the four days, but since I'll have someone who can do heavy lifting, I may just go through all of the leftover boxes we've had in the garage since we moved into our house seven years ago. My youngest granddaughter has been anxious to get her mom's Barbie collection cleaned up for her. (Sixty-four in all, plus clothes and accessories, including horses and other doll pets. Yes, I indulged my daughter. We indulge our son in his interests, too.)

“Ding dong ditch” was called “knock a door, Ginger” when I was a kid. Yeah, I’m old and still owe Jesus a fiver.
@lina95357 ай бұрын
I legit had to think what it was called when I was young, and while the translation would probably be ding dong ditch, the literal translation would be "prankcalling". Since you ring a doorbell. Might have to ask my sister or mom what it was called before that. But yes, it would be the same word for doing it with a door or a phone where I live 😂

NTA for the first story and the parents are also setting a horrible example for the kids. Teaching the girls they most do eberytning even with a career and the boys they do not have to do anything and the women in their lives should be. At least if they marry partners of the opposite sex. Good on op and I’m glad his family is laughing at him

Story 1: OP if I had a wife who was 8 months pregnant, I'd be twisting my spine into a pretzel with all the bending backwards I'd do to ensure she stays healthy, even if it meant sacrificing my own personal time. What you said wasn't out of line, on ANY level, your BIL is trash, and if he doesn't get his act together, keep talking to your sister about this and why she needs to leave him.

19:45 i totally understand that mark may be surprised about the logistics but believe me, it's not that hard. I live in europe and it would be really easy to do a day trip to another country. I could decide it right now, get in a car, go and then come back without much effort. I don't need a passport, no one to stop me at the border, etc. If they live in central europe, going to france for some brownies wouldnt be that hard. i even heard the story of a dude who was craving burger king once so he went to the neighbour country bcs they didnt have it in his and i totally believe it. That said, it's still an AH move to make the husband fetch her every single craving she gets, it's completly unreasonable to expect her partner to bend backwards for every single thing she wants. Note: idk how much harder it is to travel right now bcs of the corona situation but not having those in account, this is my opinion.
