Story 3 is crazy because OP is totally just jealous and trying to find ways to justify that weird misplaced jealousy over a person who she ISN'T DATING or even hints at having any kind of romantic entanglement with. Your coworker/housemate's love life isn't your business, even if he kisses your best friend. I can maybe understand being concerned about potential drama/side-choosing if they started dating then broke up, which would make things uncomfortable for you being in the middle. But no boundaries have been crossed here. No one has "betrayed" anyone. One consenting adult kissed another consenting adult. They don't need to ask for OP's consent. OP is not involved in that situation in any way, besides simply knowing the two people. Does every mutual friend that dates OP's friends need to ask OP's consent first? Or is it just this one? Because I think there's a name for that...
@lasagnalovingcat53352 жыл бұрын
I view it as an ESH. If you lost your job and a coworker said, "Move in with me and I'll support you and your child indefinitely", would you really not suspect that the coworker had feelings for you? He knows. I think he likes having the benefits of a sugar mama, but likes to play "innocent." Don't get me wrong. OP is definitely the bigger butthead by far, but I suspect he's trying to have his cake and eat it too. Maybe I'm jaded, but that's my opinion.
@mollyoconnor93652 жыл бұрын
@@lasagnalovingcat5335 I don't know, I mean there's also the fact that he had a child to support and take care of. I think desperation can make you see things differently - he may not have realised at the time that Op was doing this for selfish reasons. He may have just seen a friend being kind. There was also no implication that the offer was "indefinite" or that the coworker saw it that way. I would also offer my home to a friend in need, not just someone I have feelings for. OP did not make her feelings clear. It's not the coworker's job to just somehow intuit that based on a kind offer from a friend. He didn't do anything wrong by taking her up on that offer. He doesn't owe her his affection or romantic life just because she let him move in with his daughter when he was risking homelessness. Regardless of if he knew about her feelings or not, I still don't think that makes him an asshole. He hasn't done anything (that we know of) to lead her on or make her feel like they have a relationship. Therefore, there's no reason for OP to feel betrayed that he, an adult, kissed another adult. Accepting an offer to live with someone doesn't imply romantic interest in them. He is more than entitled to date who he wants to date, and OP doesn't get to dictate that. I don't think he's done anything wrong here.
@lasagnalovingcat53352 жыл бұрын
@@mollyoconnor9365 "I don't know, I mean there's also the fact that he had a child to support and take care of. I think desperation can make you see things differently" I agree with you on this point 100%. Having a child to care for definitely influences a person's choices. I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same in his position. If I was drowning and had a kid and someone throws me a rope, I'm likely gonna grab it. If it was just me, I might pass, but with a kid, that's a totally different situation. But if I'm being completely honest with myself, I'd also have to admit in this situation that my coworker likely had feelings for me and I'd do my best to avoid upsetting the household while staying there. Do I have to return those feelings? No, but I'd also do my best not to stir the pot (and move out as soon as possible!). "There was also no implication that the offer was "indefinite" or that the coworker saw it that way. " Without a firm timeline to move out, it is indefinite. 'Lasting for an unknown or unstated length of time' is literally the dictionary definition of indefinite. "Regardless of if he knew about her feelings or not, I still don't think that makes him an asshole." Your opinion is completely valid. I just think he likely knew (or at least suspected) she might have feelings for him. I'm not sure if I would call him a butthead. However, I just find it a bit buttheadish to stir the pot while living there and kissing your host's friend when you know (or at least likely suspect) that your host probably has feelings for you....eh. I wouldn't do it. At least not until me and my kid had moved out. I definitely agree that OP is way more in the wrong. It just feels like he created unnecessary drama by kissing her friend. Did he have the right to kiss her friend? Yes. Is OP being a butthead about it? Absolutely! Can he date who he wants? Of course! The majority of the blame is definitely on OP. Was it also a boneheaded move to kiss OP's friend while living under OP's roof? Yeah. Yeah, it was. Especially since he has a kid. I would have held off on any action that could potentially lead to me being kicked out before I'm back on feet simply because of the kid. He had every right to friendzone OP and he's not wrong doing whatever it takes to keep a roof over his kid's head, but kissing OP's friend while living there was just so unnecessary. But that's just my opinion. I've enjoyed the conversation. It's nice getting someone else's perspective to view the situation from multiple angles, and you've presented yours in a civil manner (which unfortunately feels so rare these days). So many people online act like you just kicked their puppy if you have a different opinion. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Btw, I'd also love to hear the guy's perspective, which could change how people (including me) view the situation, but unless he finds the post and responds, my opinion (for now) remains that OP is a major butthead and he is a bit buttheadish. Op is definitely TA. Deciding you have dibs on a human because you are making some grand gesture and not actually talking about this weird situation-ship is stupid. @@ajarfullofjoy I think even if he knows about Op's feelings, he is still entitled to do whatever he wants with whomever he wants to do it with. I agree it's possibly not the best move to kiss someone's best friend if you know they're into you, but it's also not his responsibility to live according to Op's feelings. He isn't interested in dating OP. @slytherinlibrarian35012 жыл бұрын
*Raises hand* I can give another perspective regarding the roommate/ best friend situation. It has the ability to become awkward/ uncomfortable the way that dating a coworker can. It's a don't shit where you eat situation. Without OP's admission that she has feelings, it's rude because it creates awkward situations between OP and her friend that places the friend in the middle. Does the friend acknowledge the roommate with a kiss if she comes over for girls night? Does he have to hang out in his room if they're hanging out at OP's home? If he hangs with them, what etiquette prevents any of them from becoming the third wheel? _However_ given that OP admits to having feelings, it's actually a Nice Girl scenario. OP feels that because she was being such a nice person, keeping her colleague and his daughter from homelessness, she's owed his faithfulness and loyalty for simply being a 'caring,' 'compassionate,' person. She thinks that he should divine her feelings from her actions and feels betrayed that he hasn't and angry that he had the nerve to find someone close to her attractive.

Story 2: You legally adopted her. You are the guardian of the ring. Even if Mia wanted to have an argument over who should have the ring, she should have had it with you, not with an 11 year old adopted kid who trusted her. Story 3: YTA. Nowhere does it say he's dating you. He's a roommate. Nowhere do you say he was taking advantage of your friend in an inebriated state. I don't see anything indicating that he shouldn't have kissed her. He's not your property. He's made no promises to you, and he's paid for his shelter with money and labor. He hasn't betrayed you in any way that I can see. He's been faithful in his arrangement as a roommate. Story 4: NTA. Outside of all the wedding drama and the debate that could be had over if you can control your daughter's image or not, there's the simple fact that she wasn't invited to the area with the photographer. I certainly would not be in favor of calling up whoever was watching the kid to bring her to the venue so she could be used as a prop. That's ridiculous. I was expecting to hear you got in a fight with the photographer at the venue or something over taking pictures of your kid, not that your kid wasn't there, and people demanded she be dragged across town just to get pictures of her.

What specifically is upsetting you about it. I could understand being a little upset that it complicated the friendship group but she made it sound like someone was sleeping with her boyfriend. And she couldn’t understand why I was confused. But it was the same kind of situation as with OP, she had expressed an interest in both of these friends before hand. It shows how little OP's brother cares to actually stand up for his niece. He also knew that his wife was going to throw a fit at their wedding about the photos thing...why marry this person?
