If you want to play football without the hassle of working hard on academics, or even having to go to class at all if you don’t want (see Maurice Clarett), Ohio State is the school for you!!! One of Michigan’s serious obstacles to top 5 recruiting is its insistence on academic prowess. Even adjusted for football players, it’s significant. Notre Dame faces the same issues, as does Vandy, and other schools. It’s likely not going away so it’s just a cross we have to bear.

When you see Jim Harbaugh win a National Championship with the 14th most talented class, that just emphasizes the point that coaching and development are far more important than high school star rankings. So it’s bizarre when the punditocracy continues to default to high school talent again and again as if the previous three years weren’t evidence that coaching, development, and culture are far more deterministic than merely high school rankings.

(He would later transfer to Northwestern and play there as well).

Mark - Great video. The intro/start was spot on. I believe what Peterson was saying in that BlueByNinety article was that it's lazy to claim "if only that one play had gone our way, we would have been champions." You can't reduce success in a game by ONE (or 2 or 3 even) plays. Every play is a reflection of your team's prep and approach to that entire game. OSU wasn't prepared to play any better vs Michigan than it did the last three years, and it showed in the results. It would be a better look for Day to admit OSU wasn't prepared and didn't execute to win - the entire game - rather than try to convince everyone it was just one mistake, one bad play, one bad series. IMO, Day's words mean he's going to do the same thing but expect a different result.

Mark, CBus on Game Day is NOT safe for UM fans. I’ve seen it first hand on multiple counts. With and without my UM gear on. It can be a frightening place to be. Blame the violent buckeye nature on Woody, he was the genesis of the violence. I mean he did choke a Clemson kid.

1994 - my junior year at UM......a good friend (EMU student at the time) along with his father, and I drove down to Cbus in our UM gear and tried to catch the game. We were a good group, not troublemakers. We couldn't find three tics together, so picked up three separates in town at various scalping spots close to the toilet bowl and then, running late, tried sitting together once we got in. We chose the wrong section, obviously. After explaining our situation, people seemed agreeable, but a few of the surrounding jerks refused and convinced people who were willing to slide, to not do so and then called over the ushers/security. Words exchanged and it devolved into a fistfight sending my friend's 50+ year old dad to the ER with a bloody face. That was my OSU stadium experience. I can guarantee Mark if he were to try something similar at the Big House, they'd be fine.

When comparing the programs, you leave out the fact that since the early 2000s, OSu has been paying players on the level of the warm weather schools, and that is a fact. And if you take that out then Mich would be ahead in evey comp you state. Even with the 2 big runs OSu had they only lead by a handful of match up at most.

I know a lineman from my hometown that was at Ohio state during the JK Dobbins years and he said Dobbins left Ohio state a millionaire and that the first day he (the lineman I know) was on campus they had a banquet or dinner or something and a donor came up to him and hands him an envelope with a congratulations card in it and in the card was $500. Being 100% honest. Anytime I slander Ohio State is merely just to get a reaction out of OSU fans. In reality, I just enjoy watching two of the best programs in history and the competitiveness it sparks every year. Real talk, OSU is loaded. I do think people are overplaying the impact of losing some of our star players outside of the qb position and I do see Oregon as more of a threat to Michigan than Ohio State, though I do think OSU is the better team overall. I expect a close defensive battle this year between OSU and Michigan. It could legitimately be the Bama vs LSU 2011 9-6 game. Either way, hope each team has an injury free season.
