Nice tank setup! Good to see you getting back to good old Akadama soil and hopefully it'll work for you as good as before. Without its leaching ammonia, you can do it fast and skip a long cycle.
@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
yeah as far as I can tell its not leeching any ammonia but I would imagine it does over time because it is still decaying soil.

@Bullshitvol2 Жыл бұрын
Thats an absolutely terrible idea. It is hard enough to keep one harlequin shrimp alive even if you have an asterina infestation. More so a pair. A bunch of juvenile shrimps? Impossible. He probably would need to set up a whole room full of starfish breeding tanks. A better idea are Lysmata wurdemanni, thor amboinensis and lysmata kuekenthali

I have had a 10 gallon running for 2 months with plants and amazonian soil. can I take some soil out dry it and would it be cycled to use in another tank later. Thanks for any help and for all your wonderful shrimp keeping videos!

Thank you for the video. I've noticed in your previous videos your crystals would sit around 150tds? How come your now around 190tds? What pH would you recommend or is it better to focus on gh/kh/ph.

Pretty soon I'll be doing a 4ft aquascape shrimp tank, I have an ro filter which I use for my 24l now, atm I just mix to connectivity in a bucket then add. If I was to add pure ro to the empty tank and it has a tds of 50 or so would I add gh/kh+ to get it 50 above my target or include the amount already in there from soil, hardscape and plants etc. Just don't really have a way to store or drip so much pre mixed water is all.
@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
what I always do is mix my salt the same way all the time and then just do water changes like normal, eventually it will all equal out to what you want.

Hi Mark, I keep cherry shrimp, badly they keep dieing, the only issue I see, is I have extremely soft water (Scotland), it comes out the tap and instantly changes with 1 drop kh water test (NT labs test kit), I have always put cuttle fish in my tank because I know the water is soft, but should I be try to get the KH up before even adding it to the tank after a water change?, if so how do I do this, I just have a small 19lt tank and am down to 10 shrimp again ,no breeding, I've had a few, tank fully cycled for about a year now, thankyou for any help you can give me.
@normang3579 Жыл бұрын
but Mark, how long do i need to cycle the tank? even if there is old soil inside? 😁
@MarksShrimpTanks Жыл бұрын
remove the old soil all together, once the ph is lost its basically a dead soil with no kh and you run into problems.
@notthebaby90776 күн бұрын
So you did cycle your tank? you just cycled for 5 days?
@MarksShrimpTanks6 күн бұрын
There is no amonia in that soil so your not waiting on any cycle, I was waiting on the ph to udjust I think if I didnt mention it in the video.

Hi Mark, I am using this technique but I am using Fluval Stratum and it appears to be leaching quite a lot of ammonia (about 0.50ppm) even after 4 days. PH is at 6.2. Do you think I should wait until the ammonia level is down to 0 before re adding the shrimp? Thanks 👍🏻

Hi mark .how much had the ph dropped from the time of starting that tank ? If my tank has still got a low ph but my shrimp have stopped breading would you still recommend changeing the soil . My shrimp were breeding well then jest stopped becoming berryed beginning of November as the temp in the uk started to drop. My water parameters are spot on and the tank is 7 months old . NO shrimp death's at all jest no breeding for over 5 weeks .should i be concerned?

look at the glass mate, if you see life on it like little snails, copepods, seed shrimp etc just give it time, If you see none of that I would change soil .
