3 months in the making, this sweeping video covers the magical world of camcorders and why they are still a serious consideration for video and vlogging and all the benefits they have over DSLR cameras for videography fans. The deeper you get into this video, the more the benefits start coming from all sides. Amazing features that DSLR cameras do not even have... and even if they did, camcorders have the same features for less than one quarter the cost- never overheating, endless recording time, OIS and gimbal stabilizations, stereo and surround sound, zoom mics, slow motion by simply touching the screen, focus tracking, auto, horizon leveling, four different kinds of intelligent contrast HDR, audio EQ adjustments, in-camera editing, 25MP stills, no focus searching, even if object passes in front of subject, amazing low light color video even in almost pure darkness, ease of use, the list is endless.
Here are the cameras featured in the video in the order they are presented

@MarkusPix KZbin recommended me this channel and i'm so glad as its the best channel i've found in a long time. I'll always be a Video camera/Camcorder person over a DSLR person and actually a couple of those $600 camcorders i'd gladly use on Pro shoots or if i'm on a BLM and don't have to worry if cops smash up my camera as its pretty cheap. Any way keep up the great work.

bWWd Why do (some) people consider it a form of negative critique. Is it the way the comments are layered out? Or is it because he was comparing to something that correlated to ‘pop culture references’ of yesteryear? 🤔 Me personally: I was still fond about his camera review. The “style” of video that Marcus has created has a feel/vibe from 2008/09 and that’s perfect!! 👌 He’s taking full advantage of the fact that he’ll stand out of the hundreds of conventional/generic tech reviewers (that are roaming here on YT).

I have spent just over 25 years as a commercial and portrait photographer and videographer, and I agree with you that even those $30 Chinese camcorders represent a potential level of fun that makes me feel like I'm back in my highschool video journalism class with unlimited life experiences and creative freedom ahead of me. That might not sound so amazing to anyone half our age, arguably. My teenagers have surrendered back to me most of the Vivitars, Polaroids, Cheapo Chinese units and the $150 -$300 Sony and Panasonic camcorders I've given them over the years. Gotta love it that they not only share my creative passion and interests, but rather than destroy their old Christmas and Birthday gifts they always end up re-gifting them back to me every other year when mom declares it's Spring Cleaning and Charitable Donation week. Albeit these little wonder boxes are not all created equal, it's quite liberating and inspiring to begin storyboarding a new conceptual project knowing that there are 8-10 extra perspectives I can employ beyond my everyday 2-3 dslr setup. They are super compact so they can be stuck in just about any tiny vantage point or even props to open up new ways for the audience to visually participate in the stories and events we shoot. I use them for not only personal projects but even shooting BTS and other alt-angle shots for clients and colabs. Like you pointed out, the greatest common factor across the entire product range is that these things are built specifically for shooting video so battery life, using AC power outlets rather than batteries, image stabilization, auto functionality, otg focusing, compact size/weight and even audio quality are in line with the dedicated purpose of their design. Not to mention that if I drop a $50 Vivitar off a window cleaning scaffold from six stories (above a thankfully empty sidewalk), it's not the kind of loss to break the bank or ruin the afternoon. Even better, the couple I've dropped while recording actually had usable footage still on the SD card of the initial footage and the fall, too. It is very exciting to have a swath of accentuating clips and perspectives during post production. When I saw the video title and the assortment of consumer camcorders, I have to admit I actually got a little excited that someone actually invested the time and resources to procure all these cams and do a basic but proper review of all of them at once. I obviously enjoy these the way you do, but even beyond just "nerding out" and comparing the features this video was a great idea that I'm sure lots of different content creators and craftsmen alike will find the info helpful. I'm glad I found your channel this way as this is so much more lighthearted and cool overall than the typical way we find other industry related channels on KZbin. I'm subbed now, so I'll see you around. Cheers, bro!

@The Collective Consciousness You do not even need 1200 for a camcorder, as the dude has shown in the video, 600 alone gets you a whole lot of features you will never use. I focus on colour quality in any camera from the likes of Sammy NX1 and JVC cameras and even Fujifilm but those are mostly photo cameras with video feature. The Sammy NX1 feels more like a camcorder with a photo option despite being a mirrorless.

Find one of those old full size VHS camcorders from the 1980's. I've seen the at garage sales for $20.00+/-. Not yet antiques, lots still around, they're in the 'junk' category right now not yet transitioned to collectable. The analogue system, the limited resolution and other primitive technology give a quaint mood. I one point I even had a U-Matic 3/4" player recorder with a huge, heavy camera and 'security cam' resolution. Made some interesting videos that still kept their antiquated, almost spooky, quality when transferred to my Apple computer. Someone, more creative than me, will eventually make something interesting with that obsolete equipment.

I took a '70s era camera hooked to a portable U-matic with mini cassette and did some video in and around an old empty house on a cloudy November day. It was eerie looking, the lower quality gave it a dream or old memory mood. Got rid of that U-matic stuff a few years ago-can't keep everything-and sometimes regret it.

If you are shopping for a new camcorder, what could possibly be better or more insightful than seeing almost EVERY mass-market option on the same table, with live demos of the video and audio quality to make a judgement for yourself. I just launched a new KZbin channel this week, and I picked the Sony HDR-CX405 based on the results of your sample video here! I had an epiphany almost 7 years ago that I wanted to be a filmmaker and since then I have been a single mom doing odd jobs while progressing through purchasing the equipment to finally stop with childcare, cooking, cleaning, sewing, MLM, etc, finally done with all of those things for others and about starting my film business now. It's a dream come true and I am loving seeing all you guys on youtube that I have learned from being such engineers yourselves, macgyvering solutions and getting creative not only with with art but with methods. I LOVE it. :) Filmmakers are the coolest people! ... but in my small town I am the only one so I didn't even know it! :P Seeing your videos makes me feel like I am so *at home* with this career choice, after a life of ADHD and career boredom. Usually, I avoid video's that state EPIC...but EPIC advice this was. I like this guy, true to the point! I used to take video with a camcorder with tape and I thoroughly enjoyed it (having to edit via dvd recorder which was a ballache but worthwhile, eventually). Now everything is digital it's not the same! I recently took a video with my phone and had to keep pressing pause to continue the experience I was having without the video cutting out, made me wish I had a video camera again, hence why I am here! Now I am on the hunt to capture memories via motion again! With so many options out there this was perfect advice, especially on a budget. I did laugh though, he has had the same haircut for the past 10 years haha. Nice one!

It isn't so much the DSLR itself, it's the bit of glass attached that determines the quality of the recorded image, combined with the effectiveness of any image stabilisation built-in to the lens.

Well DSLR would probably beat it in raw video quality (if you don't factor in lens price lol)... However with camcorders in that price range you trade some quality that probably no one will notice anyway for a huge improvement in ergonomics... I happen to have a vxf11, a bit beefed up "pro" version, and I find myself using it more and more... basically for any job that doesn't absolutely require "film look" or super high level of quality... If you're doing vlogging or run-n-gun stuff, a good camcorder is invariably better choice for the money.

Some of the honest reviews on the crappy ones crack me up!! "No name, model number, flip screen's upside down, red shiny thing from China....$30" :D :D :D

Great video. Camcorders are so under appreciated. I remember when I first started out I was using a camcorder with a giant vhs tape inside and no lcd screen of any kind. I took that thing everywhere with me. I was vlogging in the early 90's when vlogging wasnt even a thing yet. That X900 was very impressive. You are very generous for giving away those camers.

I've been trying to look for old digital cameras at home we used more than 10 years ago. I've been toying around with the idea of making a "retro" style video without it looking too distractingly-cheap. This made me start looking again! China camcorders... changing colors... nope. I already have enough trouble with *manually* white balanced clips as it is. :) And I'm not sure if I'm lucky for being a Panasonic shooter and having some of the in-camera features that some modern DSLRs still don't have, in a camera almost 5 years since release. I still use an old Sony Camcorder (2007, zoom mic, 5.1 surround, flippy screen, high zoom) for some shots, though sadly I am limited by 1 battery so it's not an all-day option for me.

Camcorders are extremely nostalgic to me. I started with a Sony camcorder I beat the living hell out of that thing and It still works I passed it down to my nephew. I then moved to a DSLR camera, realizing that DSLRs are NOTHING like camcorders. I'm now going back to camcorders purely for video and using my DSLR purely for photography.

Used an Sony AX33 for about 3 years - it was my bread and butter while I was shooting Trucks for this magazine - amazing stabilization(when properly handled with the correct posture) almost never used a tripod for it, good balance in colors and the 4k was amazing. Hands down would recommend be it for vlogging or some more professional work.

We need camcords to make a comeback. I always wanted one when I was a kid but I was only able to get my first camera when I was 23 as a birthday gift. The fact that some of these camcorders even have an inner gimball makes me wonder what happened that made companies stop making them accesible for the public. Think you’ve missed the whole idea behind the Zoom. It IS an audio recorder and doesn’t care about video. The video is there for ‘in a pinch’ use and for taking visual notes only and isn’t designed to be a proper camcorder, but a very decent audio recorder. 😉

I was looking for a video camera today that would work with “sling studio” and I have GOT to say this is BY FAR the FASTEST most AMAZING breakdown of cameras I have EVER run across. In most normal comparison videos it’s like “why I upgraded from ‘xeqft 452’ to ‘vhwcauea 453’.” In THIS video it’s “I own ALL THE CAMERAS!!!! TICK TOCK TIME TO ROCK!” 1-2 minutes each, hit ALL the major highs and lows, show footage and audio and BOOM! DONE! NEXT CAMERA!!! YOU GONNA LEARN TODAY😂😂😂😂 25 cameras in 25 minutes 😂😂😂 Giving all these review videos a thumbs up and I’m subscribing.😂 Seriously, AMAZING job😂😂😂

After watching a few of your camcorder videos I feel qualified to say that you are the ultimate camcorder evangelist! Keep making videos like this Markus, it’s really fun to watch. Currently I ordered a USED Canon HF S21, it came out in 2010 with a MSRP of 1399$ and I got it now in 2022 for 127$ I can’t wait to receive it in a couple of days. Peace Markus!

@@MarkusPix hello Markus! I just want to share to you , I received the CANON HF s21 camcorder that I’ve ordered😃 I was actually nervous because the Label in the website says “CANON HF 21” (the cheaper version that retailed 599$ when it was released)but, in their picture they were showing the CANON HF S21 (the one with a view finder and the one that retailed (msrp) 1,399$ when it came out. So last night it arrived via fed ex and I was happy to see it was the CANON HF S21! Everything was in great condition (actually looks like new😅) I only paid 127$! It’s fun! Thank you for your video Markus.

Mark, I appreciate your channel. Your honest but intelligent insightful personality is well-suited to camera-knowledge themed videos. Keep doing what you're doing. I've been on a video-camera researching journey in past recent weeks, and although I've sifted through a lot of those multi-million subscribe modernistic phony channels with their extortionist urban-personalities saying "buy this Lumix G7" or "buy that SONY-A5-100" on their worthless channels, and NONE OF THOSE OTHER CHANNELS are as informative, genuine, money-conscious as your channel is by comparison. But not only that, you actually explain (in a condensed time-saving way) the self-evident reasoning for these inexpensive cameras surprisingly good quality. How these cameras are, by contrast to higher-end spendy alternatives, indeed worth purchasing, especially if the end results of the film-quality is much the same anyway. All the details that are actually crucial are factored into your videos, while still not prattling on or trying to sell us excessive unnecessary flashy glossy fancy new-fandangled bull-crap as so many of these other camera reviewing channels tend to do. Three categories of camera-review channels; 1. Longwinded camera expert who mostly doesn't teach the useful information but promotes excessive spending (usually middle-aged person) 2. ADHD inflicted neurotic camera expert (usually a younger person) that may teach intermittent useful informaiton on the product, at length. 3. MarkPix who doesn't waste anybody's time; and doesn't waste anybody's money The way I see it, for a mere $150, I will take your advice and invest in one of these suggested cameras, and if it satisfies my needs, well, then great. But if it doesn't, then it's only $150 expended for a necessary experiment of conservative-fiscal motive, whereby I can probably get a store-credit or refund, to shift my focus and invest in a different camera, if it comes to that. Your channel is a great service to a YT platform that's filled with a lot of fluff-spewing time-wasting tech-savy nerds and urban hoodlums w/o insight, prattling phony modernists advocating a $900 camera, longwinded pop-culture-urban personalities sitting on 1M+ subscribers who don't teach core details/features to their viewers, particularly in the area of saving money if the camera quality is still decent regardless. This is why your channel is unique and respectable.

1:48 - quick rant - the thing with cellphones is that our devices fill up with pictures and videos that we eventually lose track of and can never find - or even delete- while these are designated and devoted items to recording. I think its great we have them to be able to record and keep track of it. My nephew is growing up and my sister wont be able to show him the memories bc she lost track of her pictures. So im getting a camcorder and reserved hardrive for him like my family has a box of vhs home tapes for us.
