The Russian Bear (Alexander Karelin), thr greatest Greco-Roman Wrestler of all-time would perform Gorilla Cleans with double 32k, 40kg and 48kg for 3 min rounds/1 minute rest to condition for his matches. There is video of him performing them on the KZbin

Funny you mentioned carrying KBs for miles. In the past two years I adopted a training method where I carry a med heavy KB around my neighborhood for 2+ miles while stopping at each intersection and doing a variety of exercises for 10-20 reps, depending on the movement. Fantastic conditioning.

That’s fucking wild. I have a few questions. You just use 1 bell for that? Also I’m assuming you alternate the arm you use at each stop sign? What weight do you use? I know weight does not necessarily mean equate to difficulty as some people are stronger than others but I’m just curious.
@VladiDusil
@VladiDusil 2 ай бұрын
@@JesusMartinez-nv2jw only one bell, between 35-52 lbs, depending on the day. If lighter, I do more overhead work and snatches. I found that the unilateral load does wonders to my core, after having had back surgery in my lower back 5 years ago, I prioritize a strong core above everything else. Long farmers walks do wonders for core stability.

Seems like 4 secs per clean would be a decent pace, to fix clean and reset the hang, with slight pause. If we gave a nod to the KB marathon ( this is like a clean as a grind / similar to the jerk ?), an arbitrary goal... 6 min sets. 15 rppm for total of 90 [ 45 / 45 ] reps....

I wouldn't do a crazy weight difference too soon. Your core and lower back would be working overtime to balance you which is technically good but this idea seems to welcome injury. I'd go same weights and a lower weight than usual until you got the form all the way down. After that, just listen to your body when it tells you to rest and when it tells ya to stop. I went to test it out of curiosity and 22kg on one side and 16kg on another feels too awkward.16kg bith sides felt manageable long term. Hope this helps. When in doubt, you can "samplers" carefully, to see how something will feel. The body I know is mine and it said to stick to the balance for now.

Yeah!!!! , it's like a static asymetrical hold built in, especially if that's what you have weight-,lwise, switch half way, or on even intervals. Extra core work so that's interesting. You'd be crazy not to try that, don't mind this safety shite, we jumping off cliffs here? Ffs, just use your head.

Interesting exercises. You have shown lots of examples of kettle bell exercises, I am still not sure why kettle bells are better than dumbbells.
@maxpower8052
@maxpower8052 2 ай бұрын
You want to pick the right tool for the job. For the most part, anything you do with a dumbbell, you can do with a kettlebell. It's hard to think of an exercise I'd prefer the dumbbell. Maybe a dumbbell pullover on a bench feels better than a kettlebell pullover on the same bench and that's a toss up for me personally. Anyway, kettlebells are not light just like dumbbells aren't; you can totally use your kettlebells like dumbbells. But, dumbbells don't work well with most swing variations. You might be able to do a dumbbell swing with both hands on one of its two bells, but a hand to hand swing, a swing clean or a swing snatch with a dumbbell does not work well; I know I'd never attempt that. And those exercises kettlebells can be a substitute for clubs if you know what you're doing like the circles and rotational cleans, you can't do with a dumbbell at all. I'd say give it a try. Even if you used the kettlebell only like a dumbbell and don't do any sort of swing, swing clean, or swing snatch, you'll benefit from the offset load. I know overhead presses with a kettlebell just feel better to me than with a dumbbell. You'll still probably experience some of that kettlebell "what the hell" effect for yourself. Best of luck!

@@maxpower8052 You make a good argument for the use of kettle bells for some goals. I think you could probably get the same results from pins or clubs. One of my problems with kettle bells are that they are very popular. That makes me want to resist them. It make them seem like a fad.

Is strength endurance really its own thing? Isnt there just strength, and then endurance? If you are training in a mode that taxes both is it really a 3rd unique thing? Wouldnt it just be an activity that has both elements and probably leans more into one of them? full body KB clean and press for example gets the heart rate up pretty high, but depending on the weight being used, strength will be the limiting factor or your endurance will be. Point being if your absolute strength is high, it will carry over into the reps you are able to do at a certain weight. If your endurance is high it will carry over into how long you can go with light weight. but training "strength endurance" doesn't nessesarily have the same carry over the other way.

I see what you're saying. I think the ability to apply two skills at the same time is it's own thing. Power is the expression of speed and strength at the same time. You need both for a heavy clean and jerk. You need both strength and endurance to swing a kettlebell for 60 mins without putting it down. Neither strength nor endurance alone will accomplish that. Either could be a limiting factor but only the proficiency in both at the same time can allow for success

The Russians would call you a silly American. Wrestling is a prime example of strength endurance. You are free to think as you do. I mean we let the flat earth society exist.
@nbrooks1416
@nbrooks1416 2 ай бұрын
@@JamieHaleyy i guess my point is if i can both run with my heart rate at 140 for 60 min and separately i can RDL 300 for 20 reps, or clean 135 for 20 reps (since u mentioned power), the i can mostly likely swing 35lb kettlebell for a very long time. Being able to swing a 35lb kettlebell for a long time does not translate the other way though. Endurance and strength are two separate systems and training them both separately has a lot of carry over to what is called “strength endurance”
