You must be forgetting that the point of being a professional wrestler is to sell merchandise and draw numbers. I can assure you that Mick Foley sold more T-shirts and pay per views in his short tenure with TNA than Christopher Daniels did the entire time he was with the company. If was just a huge paid day for guys like Foley, Angle, String, etc. or should I said from former employees from WCW and WWE. With all the of the legendary star power that surrounded TNA at the time, you wouldn’t at least thought management would of put a couple TNA original over. Foley had a relative run of matches in WWE in 2006 & 2007 that were mostly depressing. I mean, he randomly was in a WWE Championship match, for crying out loud. The fact he ended up doing a ton of matches in TNA (relative for his physical state), and was even their champion, is rather grim on both TNA and Foley.

One thing these videos are reminding me is how OVERBOOKED TNA was...I hadn't really noticed at the time how many ref bumps, impromptu hardcore matches etc. there were. Also it seemed to totally lack an upper midcard...veterans and youngsters on their way up who could be relied on to give good midcard matches, who could challenge for midcard titles and slot into the main event, perhaps even pick up the odd main title or two...when one needed it. Most of them seemed to be shoehorned into the main event scene, making a lot of big main event matches confusing messes. Jarrett was the perfect upper midcard guy, could do heel or face (much better as a heel unless he was in Memphis), totally believable holding a secondary title, even could carry a world title as a transitional champion, but ownership and ego put paid to that.

I am not saying it is not dumb, but during this time heavyweights would challenge fairly often for the IWGP Junior Tag Titles, saying that under the TNA umbrella these titles followed the same rules as the X-Division (its not about weight limits, its about no limits). If memory serves me correct, Hernandez and I want to say VKM also challenged for the Junior Tag Titles.
@lambdalambdalambdaa
@lambdalambdalambdaa 4 жыл бұрын
@@ImagineABear It's solely because TNA is dumb. In New Japan, you only see juniors challenge for the title. TNA obviously got them in a partnership but didn't realize they didn't have enough juniors and wanted to use it to try to get other talent over. They would never be able to win it though, which defeats the entire purpose if fans know you're not going to win.

Brother, you had me crying with this one! In laughter! "The Mid-Card Mafia?" Priceless! And some of those matches! I mean, I'm going to be honest....Ric Flair was probably twenty years older than most of the "legends" he's wrestling. But he's in better shape! And can still take a bump! Mick can barely move. I mean, it's just sad to watch! I know he took a lot of damage in WWE and it took it's toll. BUT DON'T WRESTLE! And Nash! Jesus, that Match 19, they looked like two old hobos having a tiff about who drank the last drop of Mad Dog! Nash is using the shopping cart as a walker. And Mick gets winded after ten seconds. Just stop! I can't believe that he wrecked his career this bad, considering what a real legend he was in the days before TNA! I mean, Nash had been phoning it in since the last days of WCW, but I would expect better of Mick. I know it's fun to make fun of Hogan and Flair, but Hogan wasn't much worse than normal. And Rick....Well, he was still putting on a show. He was at least trying. You have to give the man that! WOOOOOOO!!!!!

After a long & drawn out while of seeing Mick Foley bring his barbed wire baseball bat "Barbie" to the ring for all of his matches during his TNA in 2009, I was hoping for a change... I liked when Mick Foley first introduced us to "Barbie" & incorporate it in hardcore matches in the spring of 2004 when he was still under contract with WWE, but, I think "Barbie" wore out the figurative welcome by mid-2009 during Mick Foley's TNA run, in my opinion.

@MetalHeadJake lmao so foley was a better choice than angle, sting and joe just to name 3?? while i admit there are too many false finishes, superkicks and finishers in todays wrestling doesnt mean there wasnt better options for tna champ in 09. i mean hell this company also had james storm and robert roode at this time. tna was just trying to be wcw in the late 90s by pushing their biggest names on value alone and not in ring work which is what most ppl were watching tna for in its early years. also no one is saying foley isnt a legend its just no one wanted to see foley(clearly passed his prime and too damaged from years of abuse to the body) as a world champ in 2009
