Hi, Mark! Can i connect it to active speakers or it will be a great noise? You said something about latency... Is it depends on your phone characteristics like RAM and processor power, etc, and which one is vital? Thanks for the great video tho!
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Boris. Yes, you can connect to active speakers. Latency *does* depend upon your phone/tablet, but in my experience this isn't a major effect. 5-20 milliseconds of latency is okay. What does really matter on Android platforms in my experience is using USB (as in this video) vs using the phone jack. USB gives low latency. I've had 250-750 milliseconds latency with the phone jack. Just unplayable!

What about latency? I mean, Android devices are well known to suffer a big latency issue coming from how audio is treated inside the OS drivers. I may tell something wrong about low level details, but the point is that, as for today Android, unlike iOs, is not suitable for audio applications that requires minimal latency between source and output. Can we get rid of this issue by using an external USB audio device? This would be great!...
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
I talk about it a little bit in the video I think, right? Maybe I talked about it in the original video. Yes, going the USB route should help immensely with respect to the latency. I've used it on a Pixel 2 and Droid Razr with very low latency and a cheap, knockoff Android tablet (moderate, but usable latency). I don't have the numbers offhand, but it was good. Would I gig with it? I'm old school, so no. But it's not the latency that would scare me off.
@manchesterantiwar4 жыл бұрын
Excellent tutorial. Many thanks. One question: Is the USB to USB-C cable you link to in your information section an OTG cable? I assume it is. But I read elsewhere that it is best to buy only cables that state clearly that they are OTG in their descriptions. So could you please confirm that the linked cable is OTG? Am I right in thinking that ALL USB type -C cables incorporate the OTG technology? Thanks.
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
I think it's nomenclature perhaps. USB-C to USB provides the functionality you want for a USB-C equipped phone. For phones that use a micro charger, you want the USB-OTG cable. Not all micro charger phones have USB-OTG capability, but as far as I know, all USB-C equipped phones have the capability to use USB connections. Here's the language on the micro USB-OTG I linked: UGREEN Micro USB 2.0 OTG Cable On The Go Adapter Male Micro USB to Female USB for Samsung S7 S6 Edge S4 S3, LG G4, DJI Spark Mavic Remote Controller, Android Windows Smartphone Tablets 4 Inch. I know the USB-C to USB works, as it's the one I use on my USB-C equipped phone. I don't know whether that's classified as "OTG compliant." It works though. And no damage after 3 years of use.

Thanks for your time on this. I set my freshly built cbg with the setup from your previous vid. Works good for making my terrible playing load and all effected up! But lots of static noise and some pops. Also the tablet seems to get over run at times and will fall a full second behind. Interested to try new setup but don't know if the charge port on my Asus tablet is powered? In the specs the Behringer bcg102 says powered by USB...do feel it's hard on battery. Any ideas?

Hi! It's a definite weakness with using a USB device. Your phone or tablet can't charge during play! I haven't overcome this, but I haven't found the Behringer too draining. If I think of anything I'll let you know. For now, I try to make sure I'm fully charged before I use it. I know, that's pretty lame, but I don't have anything right now.

Hi. Thanks for your question. There are a few places it can go wrong. First, however, try this: Use TONEBRIDGE instead of DEPLIKE. If that works, it's Deplike that needs to be fixed. If not, let me know and we can start checking cables and such. Also, please let me know what phone/tablet you have and which Android system you're running. I found that Deplike didn't work for a while for me either, but the recent system change solved it and it works fine for me again.

@@MarkZabel Hi, what smartphone do you have? In my LG Q6 the atency is unavoidable, like 20 ms or more, and I'm using an Audiobox 22. The developer say that this audio interface consumes more battery and it's right but it has nothing to do with latency. Normally this interface can give 3 ms of latency. Maybe the problem is in my phone as it has no Samsung Pro Sound system, but I couldn't find what smartphone has better sound system. I won't buy an iPhone because of it.

I tried this with a Behringer UM2 on my Oneplus 3 and the Deplike app. I do not get any guitar sound at all. When I play music on an app on my phone, I hear the music through the UM2. However, though the Deplike app detects the USB device (UM2) being connected, it does not work. Any suggestions, please?
@MarkZabel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Prabuddha. I'm not sure why you're having issues. I also try the easy things I forget, like mixing up the output jacks or forgetting to turn up the volume on the device. One thing I've had issues with in the past is that I have had to restart the Deplike app. Does the guitar interface work independently?

@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea about the different color of light. The Samsung tablet should be all set, but I don't have one. I have a super-cheap bargain tablet and it just works. So the Samsung surely should work. 1. Make sure your cables are all okay. 2. Make sure your volume is turned up (Android, Behringer, Deplike ... everything.) 3. Make sure you've got your outputs connected correctly. If the above 3 are okay (and you've checked them), please let me know what the dialog box says when you plug in the USB-OTG cable (or USB-C if such is the case).

Hi. I have never used that feature, so I'm not sure. However, two things come to mind to check. 1. Have you allowed Deplike to access through the dialogue box that first comes up? 2. Are the backing tracks in the correct place on the phone? (Or have you redirected the file path to where they are?) Good luck!

Will this work with the Irig instead of the behringer adaptor hing?
@MarkZabel5 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly sure the answer is "no". Unless iRig changed their interface, it's made to use the phone's headphone jack. If you have a non-Samsung Android you should avoid doing that. Even with Samsung, it's better to use the USB interface. Latency will be much less of an issue. If the cost of the Behringer is an issue, there are knock-off versions that are out there. (Here's an example ... can't vouch for it, but it's only $10. www.amazon.com/Interface-Adapter-Connector-Recorder-Computer/dp/B077BS5YHS/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=guitar+link&qid=1565739632&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-4)

That's a bummer. Really. I bought it 3 years ago. It appears the product is discontinued. Honestly, I would go with the amp ... like a Blackstar ID:core10 or something like that.

Can someone answer me my question is, do I still need to buy a real guitar pedal or I just go ahead with this android app? I mean, is there any differences? What's better?
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Raquel. Thanks for your question. Even though I did this video and have fun with the setup, I'm "old school". I think that if you have a little money it's far better to buy a good amp and a simple pedal setup or even an inexpensive multi-pedal (like one from Sonicake). That way you actually will learn how to get the sounds yourself. And it's really simple; just plug into the amp, go through a couple of pedals and that's it. There are an immense number of sounds you can get with a reverb, delay, distortion, and chorus.
@racquelaquino84904 жыл бұрын
@@MarkZabel Thank you for the response but If I'm gonna continue with this guitarlink and android app is it okay? Because I don't mind if the real pedal is more better because as I see they perform exactly the same, am I right?
@MarkZabel4 жыл бұрын
@@racquelaquino8490 It will work if that's what you mean by "okay". Also, "perform exactly the same" isn't totally clear. With the guitar link you'll need to learn software, won't have a "stompbox" on the floor, will have some latency, etc. With a pedal unit you won't get new pedals for free when they're published, will need to carry it physically to a gig, etc. Clearly there are differences. But if you're asking "will it work", then the answer is "yes" - as long as your phone is USB-C or USB-OTG capable.
