In this video we demonstrate how much load is being reduced on the drive train by engaging our Marlin Crawler Dual Case Transfer Case System.
Comparisons shown are:
Stock Low Range (2.28:1)
Marlin Crawler Stock Dual Case (2.28:1 x 2.28:1 = 5.20:1)
Marlin Crawler Dual Ultimate (2.28:1 x 4.70:1 = 10.72:1)
For vehicles with start-cancel bypasses, having the Starter function so effortlessly on incredibly steep climbs is just another way the Marlin Crawler adds Control and Security to the driver and truck. You no longer have to disengage gears and trust the brakes to hold you while cranking: You let the Marlin Crawler do the work from the comfort and control of the driver seat!
We manufacture Dual Transfer Case Setups for most 1979 and newer Toyota 4WD trucks and SUVs including Automatic, Manual, Carbureted, Fuel Injected, 4cyl, 6cyl, and 8cyl applications.
To see some historical photos of the World Famous 1980 "Crawler Truck", please see our Vintage Photo Gallery here: www.marlincrawler.com/vintage
The Crawler Truck has a 2.7-liter 4cyl Tacoma 3RZ-FE smog-legal Engine conversion with a Triple Ultimate Marlin Crawler Transfer Case setup resulting in a 1,148:1 final drive / Crawl Ratio.

@MarlinCrawlerMedia

Hello Michael and thank you for the question. When you understand that exactly no good Toyota automatics were available at the time Marlin founded the hobby of Rock Crawling in 1994, 100% of the first-ever Rock Crawling vehicles on the trails were manual. In fact, we did not manufacture the world's first Automatic Rock Crawler until the early 2000s (this first automatic test vehicle was a white 3.0-liter 2nd gen Toyota 4Runner). So for nearly the first decade after we created Rock Crawling, precisely zero were automatics. Marlin Crawler without dispute built the industry of Rock Crawling with manual transmission-equipped Toyota trucks. It isn't that Autos are not good for Rock Crawling, but rather the Toyota trucks of the era when we started Rock Crawling were faaar more rugged and less civilized than they are today. We would argue that if it wasn't for Toyota's weak (in the literal sense) marketing of sand (yuck) and mud (yuck) use with only featuring automatic trucks then we would have more manual-equipped modern trucks off-road. Case in point with BigMike's new 3rd gen Tacoma: It took him 8-dealerships, 261-days, and a flight to Texas all because he ordered a new manual transmission Tacoma. Feel free to read his full "Mega post" struggle with Toyota at the 16th reply of his build thread here: www.marlincrawler.com/bm2 TL;DR Marlin founded Rock Crawling with manual transmissions, and automatics only rose to popularity because of Toyota's relentless push to encourage the use of them here in America.

MarlinCrawlerMedia Thanks for the great explanation. I have a background with domestic 4x4s, and all have been autos. Good point about early Toys not having a suitable auto. I base my opinion of them on seeing (mainly Jeeps) in person and in videos bouncing and crashing over things. Seems like the pattern is bounce, stall, roll back, repeat. Doesn't look fun, and looks very hard on equipment, especially when frustration kicks in and more skinny pedal is applied. I'm sure most of the ones I've seen have been horribly undergeared, with questionable drivers. I'm a lowsy stick driver, and I bet your gearbox would make even ME look good!
@MarlinCrawlerMedia
@MarlinCrawlerMedia 6 жыл бұрын
All your view points and opinions are spot-on. Given two vehicles with the same final drive ratio, one auto one manual, it will be more difficult on both the driver and the vehicle for the manual. Gearing makes all the difference and allows for more torque at a smooth and quiet idle. If you have already, then please check out our gear ratio comparison video with clutch and brake foot camera view: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaO1c5Wea5KYfbc Thanks!

All Toyota knew for a long time we're manuals. When they switched over to auto the struggle was real. Overheating issues and fluid breakdown issues. Yes it also comes down to maintenance but all Toyota knew and built we're manuals at the time. The clutch start cancel was pretty badass. It made life easier. I used to avoid auto Toyotas but they have come a long way and all is good now. Keep your fluid cool and clean.

@MarlinCrawlerMedia

Thank you for the comment. While manual transmission vehicles come equipped with a Clutch Start Cancel button, many of us bypass this entirely so we can always start the vehicle in gear regardless of the circumstance. Such is the case with The Crawler Truck. It could be cranked in reverse or even in 5th gear, for example, however without the torque multiplication of our Crawler products it would never have enough torque to overcome the weight of the vehicle.

The irony is that this type of off roading is endemic to the Sierra Nevada National Forest. Despite the fact that the general population believes that stickers generate horsepower, I have in my travels seen a sticker that seems to produce tourqe reduction. Also on a side note the old Mojave horsepower trick works here too. It can however wreck your lid.

@@jets8991 I didn't miss nothing I think they're trying to sell a expensive transfer case that you don't need you can just switch your ring and pinion gear for a few hundred dollars if need be

@@keithmckenzie1569 I get your point but did you see when he had it in factory 4 lo? I'm sure you could gear pretty low but that would make it completely useless on any sort of public road as you would be at ridiculous rpms just doing 55. They're system is a 1:1 ratio when disengaged and can do freeway speeds at regular rpms. Also with they're gearing you could probabaly drive that thing up the same hill using a drill as a motor

@@jets8991 i understand what you say.....but all 4wd. Trucks from the factory have a 4 low range. That can do steep hills and rocks . .low range locked differential and big Wheels. Thats all you need people have been doing this for 60 years. No need to buy. What this guy is to sell thats my opion.
