I sauted the onions and diced tomatoes because I dislike crunchy raw undercooked onions and it helps with the acidity of the tomatoes .... still only used the 'one pot'

I made this tonight. I changed a few things. I used whole wheat pasta, bullion instead of salt, and added a few table spoons of tomato paste. I sauted the onions and garlic in sesame oil and then added everything else. I added water until just covered. It actually came out very good.

Just made this. It actually came out much better than I expected it to. A few tips: You might have to drain it a little when 11 minutes has passed. Season as you cook as well. Season after, salt and pepper. Ensure you add both the olive oil and cheese after. Great, simple dish.

Adjustments I made: Start by sauteeing the garlic, onions, and tomatoes in olive oil until they start getting some color. Take off heat. Add pasta. Add in chicken stock, not water. Generously salt and pepper, not too much salt though because parm is salty. Add more red pepper flakes and some Italian seasoning. Once the pasta is done, add the Parmesan to the pan and stir around so it becomes homogenous. Add in a pat of butter and mix that up as well. Serve

Yes agreed. Timings are the key in this dish. If you cook the pasta too early, you won't get the evaporation needed to intensify the flavor of the dish before the pasta becomes overcooked. Cooking down the vegetables first is a good idea to get the water out of them.

This is a lovely and very quick and easy dish! I tweaked, using an organic veggie broth cube in the water to add some taste, and baby spinach instead of basil, as I didn't have fresh basil. Left out the chili flakes and the cheese. And used less water. In 11 mins, as she saids, the pasta was al dente, the broth gave a lovely salty taste and the water had just about evaporated without dry cooking it. I did not stir it all the way through, just put it on and came back to it after 9 mins of cooking it. Absolutely lovely, fully picky eater child-proof and I will be making this a lot!

Wow. After ready some of the comments, people are reacting to this as if she clubbed a baby seal. It is not authentic Italian. Nowhere and nobody is saying that you have to cook pasta like this. It was just a suggestion. And as far as crazy food goes, this is mild. It's not like she is saying to mix crab meat and strawberries and serve with peanut sauce. Seriously.

I make a delicious one pot pasta dish, really good. I sauté 2-3 cloves minced garlic in some olive oil. When that is softened, add about 2 cups of broccoli florets, cut into small pieces. Add 12 ounces of spaghetti, broken in half and enough water or (better) chicken broth to cover everything by 2 inches or so. Increase the heat to a soft boil, stir everything every couple of minutes until the pasta is cooked. You can add more liquid as necessary. Toss some toasted ( or even untoasted ) pine nuts, red pepper flakes and grated Parmesan cheese with the cooked pasta dish, Yummy and easy!

I made this with my own little twist and its probably the best spaghetti I've ever made. I added powdered chicken broth to the water, and sprinkled in some chicken spice. +Sharmane Sanchez if you'd like to cook a super-taste wonderful Italian tomato pasta, look at the link I put in my comment above (until it won't be removed) To cook a REAL tomato sauce pasta you have to cook the pasta separately from the sauce. Only at the end, you can add the almost-cooked past within the sauce. It will be wonderful! (from an italian girl ^___^!)

I'm Italian and for doing a good pasta boil it in a pan. In another pan add oil and onions, wait till the onions start to become "gold" color, then add tomato sauce or pelati. When the pasta has been cooked get it out of water and throw it into the sauce. Then add parmesan or ground meat if you wanna do a sort of Ragù. Sorry for my English...

LOVED this! Couple of minor changes: used 8 ounces of pasta instead of 12 (for just 2 ppl), sautéed the onions first (vidala-nice and sweet), used 2tsp minced garlic instead of raw cloves, and used 1/2 low sodium chicken broth 1/2 cold water. Delicious! Cooks the way she shows, no extra time or cooking needed. Use thick dry pasta like buccatini or fettuccine, so it won’t cook too quickly. Martha Stewart deserves her #humblebrag on this, it‘s a winner.

I cooked some Italian Sausage, removed the sausage from the pan, then proceeded to cook this dish with fettuccine in the same pan. I also added small pieces of red and yellow peppers and used less salt. I only used only one cup of water, because I was watching as I made this and didn't hear correctly. This cooked very well and tasted great, so I know I will be making this dish again. I needed another meal that is fairly simple and made use of the sausage I buy when I make homemade pizza. Because this dish was so simple, I had time to get my pizza dough for tomorrow already made. I'll make this dish again and again, especially during the summer when I have a lot of ripe tomatoes fresh from the garden.

Was very sceptical when I tried this, but being a beginner and from India where a lot of the Italian ingredients are hard to come by, I had to try this simple dish. And the taste amased me. It took a little longer for me to cook but the oil, Tomatoes and the spices gave a very mild flavour which was absolutely delicious. Totally love this recipe.

As an Italian, I can't read all these favorable comments about a simply obscene dish; I feel compelled to give a couple of tips to those who have never eaten a real pasta dish, in order to be able to cook a decent one at home. 1) The quality of the ingredients: if the raw materials suck, the end result will suck, there's no danger of making a mistake. Above all, the pasta must be of high quality, otherwise it will never cook properly and once placed in hot water it will become a good glue for attaching posters. 2) There are many ways to make a dish of pasta with tomato sauce, perhaps the fastest one is the following: put oil in a pan and ONE clove of garlic to fry (it can be whole or crushed, so you can remove it in a second moment, or cut into slices so that it remains on the plate, according to personal tastes). When the garlic is sautéed (NOT burnt), add the cherry tomatoes cut in half and salt a little, adding some chilli if you want; meanwhile, throw the pasta into a pot of boiling salted water. One or two minutes before the pasta is cooked, take it out of the water and put it in the tomato sauce (which must be reduced but not dry) until the end of cooking, adding a little cooking water if necessary, i.e. if the sauce has become too dry. Before removing it from the heat, add hand-chopped basil; it should be eaten immediately, if desired with a pin of Parmigiano Reggiano on top. The cooking times are the same as those required by this insult to Italian cuisine, because the tomato practically cooks in the same time as the pasta; instead of ONE pot it takes two, but at least in this way you will avoid eating boiled garlic and basil. And above all, the final result will not look like dog food.

At the risk of being booed from this site I want to say that I like this recipe. It’s kind of like risotto for pasta. I do a couple things differently though. As the pasta cooks I keep adding freshly grated parm cheese, just hold the grater over the pot and keep adding and stirring. It comes out super creamy and delicious. At the end I remove it from the heat and add in about a pound of raw peeled and deveined gulf shrimp. They cook perfectly in the hot pasta in a few minutes.

This is her own version of one pot pasta you Creepy Critical Hags!! And I've tried it and ever since I found out about it I recommended it to everybody it's flavorful because the starch in the pasta thickens the garlic the onion ,the tomato, the basil and the salt together into a nice light sauce 😋. And ive done variations of my own where i sauté sausages before hand or whatever protein i felt like.

Ok so it's not true traditional Italian pasta dish. What it is is simply what the title suggests. Every time pasta hits water, one doesn't have to invite Italy into their homes. Let's calm down here.

I flavor my pasta with extra virgin olive oil, a little tomato, sometimes a tiny slice of grass fed cow butter and PECORINO ROMANO LOCATELLI cheese after it’s cooked. Then I add sauce on top with a sprinkle of cheese above with more fresh basil. Sauce is just a matter of heating the San marzanos to bubble after the garlic become golden brown in the evil. This is fast and delicious.

We make this more "forks over knives" worthy and go with whole grain pasta (but only 8 oz), nutritional yeast instead of cheese and forgo the oil. So easy and healthy.

Thank you Martha, brilliant idea, and I will definitely prepare my next pasta like this. Now everybody is a chef. Recipes are not doctors prescriptions, you are free to modify it to your liking. I'd saute the onion and garlic first, and add the seasoning I like, then add the rest of ingredients .Martha showed us how to prepare it in one pot and in a short time, and that's the whole idea of the video. some people like food to be boiled without sauteed or seasoning. Lots of Asian cuisines boil the ingredients.

I am Italian and there is nothing wrong with the basic idea of this way of cooking pasta. I heard the same concept the first time from a famous Neapolitan comedy actor. The seasoning is also pretty good, not too much and simple basic ingredients. The one thing I would not have done is to put both onions and garlic. Normally you put one or the other...In this case I would have opted for garlic only, but that is subjective

All I'm hearing from Italians "Leave the pasta cooking to the professionals, the Italians". People been putting spin on cuisines for years. Just because it form your country doesn't mean you guys the only ones who can cook it. American have been changing recipes for years. Heck they even have deep fried pasta. Just eat what you like and leave what others eat alone

Queen Elsa Maybe, instead of commenting videos on youtube, you should study History: Mussolini and the Italian bourgeoisie wanted to take as much advantage as possible from the war in Europe between GB / France and Germany, to determine who should be the hegemonic power of the continent, to confront the rising American power.Mussolini miscalculated because it counted on a short war, one or two years and a peace treaty that enshrinement in Italy's ascent to Series A. The state hegemonic power in the Mediterranean. really he dreamed of rebuilding a new Roman empire. Maybe, he is able to indirectly acquire some colony in Africa, to expand its colonial empire. That Germany would have turned over to Italy. As in the Renaissance wars, taking it from France or the UK. Mussolini mingled in a game bigger than him. He bluffed, as an amateur poker player, with the ace protruding awkwardly from his sleeve, but his bluff lasted very little. If it were to remain studiously neutral, who knows, it could last as long as all dictators in the world... Study, that in the next comment history examination. And if you are not prepared you got an F...

+Andy Gall's Video Factory okay you basically just ranted a bunch of stuff that I don't really care to talk about, I wasnt trying to start a history debate with you,all I was saying that they in fact did side with Germans, the reason why is irrelevant to this conversation, the thing is that while you can tell me not to comment on KZbin videos (ironic since that's what you just did) maybe not bring wars that are still ongoing into something as trivial as a video on how to make pasta, very over the top and immature

Fantastic dish Martha! An Italian person would had first poured olive oil in the pan, next the garlic , onion and crushed red pepper, and would had sautéed them in the oil and crushed red pepper, then added the tomatoes, but would had roasted them a bit in the oven to double their taste, then add the water, basil and pasta.. These steps will double the taste ... promise.

@@wordwan I was skeptical too...but it really works, I don't know how, but the pasta cooks perfectly and it's not too much of any one flavor or bland. I use Italian parsley and fresh basil. I wouldn't make it with the typical grocery store no flavor cherry tomatoes, but if you have fresh or frozen tomatoes from your garden or farmer's market then it's very tasty. Sometimes I add 8-10 fresh medium sized peeled shrimp...even better. I also make Chef John's (Food Wishes) one pan Orecchiette with sausage and arugula. Yum.

Yo, I REMEMBERED this video after making the TikTok pasta for dinner tonight. This IS the TikTok pasta but BEFORE the TikTok pasta. The major difference is the Feta and the use of onions, as well as the no pre-boil pasta aspect, of course. The original trending variant of the TikTok pasta doesn’t call for onion, but some of the other variations she made have onion. And she ends with a sort of cheese and olive oil, haha. I still haven’t made this pasta recipe, and I need to try it!
