Having the visitor there that brought all those wildflowers together was just something that created such warmth to me. Maybe I am old-fashioned, but the presence of her picking and arranging bouquets really brought a feminine essence that was really nice and made it a home. Lovely video
@jimbothesailor4217

Definitely old-fashioned. This, for me, was the most frustrating video so far. I get why people like it, but I just can't be arsed with this gender role nonsense. I've worked in a lot of places similar to this, working on community camps and communes. The women are not there to collect flowers and cook. The men to make bread, move stones and build. This was nothing short of weird. This video has put me off this series.

@@deborahevans4811 Nah, that's feels a bit nihilistic to me. This woman cycles around the world... I stopped watching this series after I noticed little things like this throughout all of his interactions and conversations. I am also friends with some of his friends from Design Bridge and they confirmed that I was correct. I think I watched one or two more after this and then it just got too me too much. Once you notice these things it's hard to not notice them in the future. This guy is a narcissist.

Martijn, this is indeed a poetic series. Beautifully told and shared. There are influences in style from Malick and others. The difference here is you are living and weaving the story as well as telling it. No small task. When I think back to the first episode (I was an early convert) to where you are now it's timeless. A perfect flow and cadence. Thank you for that. Bringing new characters in seamlessly enhances the story as well. Bravo from California. I'll be in the area in a couple of weeks. The first five seconds of this video brought me back to the opening of Malicks masterpiece (on which I wrote a bachelor thesis last year), and suddenly I realized that's what makes me enjoy your video's so much; only for you to confirm the inspiration by Malick in the end. The existential calm, being encapsulated in nature, and finding your way through it, while trying to make it better (not worse). Keep up the beautiful work, and don't hesitate to throw in some Malickesk weird camera-angles in future videos ;)!

Hello Martijn and friends; I'm living in the scenic foothills of the Cascade Mountains 72 Km from Seattle in Washington USA. I too quietly work on my home and property, so I find such a rich and rewarding sense and inspiration from your videos. Living in the moment is easier as I get older; it is an important reminder - that I treasure. Thank you for your great expression of life. Cheers! from one well-earned beer to another. Jim

Hi neighbour! Not too far away here in Victoria BC. Best time of the year isn't it? Everything is green, lush, the birds are singing. Surrounded by trees, even in the city, nature inspires. These videos remind me of my grandmother's mountain cottage on the border of Austria-Slovenia. Very special memories there and also many happy memories of road trips in Washington state, hope to return soon. 😊

I'm with Martijn. I'm perfectly happy to be on my own. I don't mind the company of people, but prefer solitude. He's right about it being about living in the moment. Be content with what you have, when you have it, and you won't be missing anything. Wise words, my friend.

just one tip, while scything try to do the majority of the work by movements of your torso rather thna arms, its way easier and less tiring. On such small plot of land it probbaly dont make much of difference but on bigger grassfields it will save you

So great you try the scythe! I love to cut the grass in the early morning, when it is strong and just the birds watching... My first fault while scything was not to put the blade on the ground. My teacher in the course asked: where do you want to cut? At the ground! Great work, though, thank you for your videos...

My grandfather cut the grass with a scythe, back home in Szeklerland, it was a different way of life. Listening to the sound of Martin’s blade took me right back to the field where my grandparents made the hay for the animals. I love the temporary community and help you have, Martin; this is what life is and should be about, coming together and helping each other. I love that Carolina picked wildflowers.

What a amazing week you had. All of the volunteers were such help. It didn’t seem like they needed that much teaching or direction. It’s really an inspiration to see people from all over The world working together to get so many things to the point that you can put your finishing touches on them. It made me want to be there helping and maybe showing or teaching others my craft of carpentry that I still love to do after almost fifty years. Such an amazing setting, you made the right choice to live there.

This was a very enjoyable episode. It was smart to call for extra help to get things ready for your parents. I think they will be impressed. You mentioned having to get rid of the excavated concrete. If you are pouring a new concrete floor, you could break up the old concrete with a sledge hammer and use the pieces in the new concrete. Then you don't have to haul the old stuff away and you can recycle the pieces into the new floor and you can save a bit of money on new concrete. Just an idea. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

The intercutting contrast between the lively and talkative building of the shitter versus the peaceful collection and management of wildflowers is the perfect encapsulation of why I love this series. So much subtle humour being projected which spits in the face of other sects of the KZbin world. Cheers Martijn for another classic.
