Truth. People do not need to do the sales pitch of items, like, subscribe, hit the notification bell, and share speech several times in a video. I have unsubscribed to a few who every few minutes were doing this with a ringing bell sound as well. If people like what you do the videos sell and self promote the individual, their work, and items they sell. When they do the long speech at the beginning I skip it, at the end I click off. Self promotional for other companies within videos I skip them. There are more than enough ads as it is. This man’s videos are interesting, educational, and relaxing. His channel will grow, and his items will sell on their own.

I really enjoyed watching the weekly development. Doing it alone is very difficult. Wonder why did you put another layer of wood around the deck. To me frame is very solid and stable. I think that addition is to catch the flooring. Im not a builder just curious. You have an amazing skill and doing it nice and quality of work is your priority. Beautiful!

I like to be alone, like Martijn. I always longed to live alone in a remote place. The minute my sons left home I sped up my plan to semi-retire. I found a small house on 4 acres when I was 53. Like Martijn I managed to do some freelance artwork over the internet. I even blogged about it in those quaint pre-KZbin days. Twenty years later I'm contentedly growing old, watching beautiful, peaceful videos by people who would make great neighbours. I even have a famous KZbinr up the road.

I love all of your amazing work. Two points from someone who has lived in the woods for 21 years. If you don't put wire mesh around that deck (and dig it in) animals will move in (snakes, raccoons, mice, rats, etc ). Also, many people put moss between their patio stones because it is a low maintenance ground cover and it prevents weeds and grass from growing there. Keep up the great work!

Each Martijn Doolaard video is an intimate entry into a part of his life creating a new homestead and he allows us to join in his meditative experience with the earth. From the sound of thunder and rain as clouds pour over the mountains, as the wind ripples through the trees as the sun appears, to the creation of a garden and the baking of bread in a Dutch oven over an outdoor fire to the tinkling of cowbells as a shephard directs his cattle up an Alpine road, Martijn is a master of cinematography and sound! The slow meditation of a life being lived in Mindfulness, he lets us encounter it with him. Thanks Martijn, in a world coming apart you show us how to sow peace and tranquility on this beautiful earth. Your efforts are healing and I am blessed to witness your efforts. 💞💞

Watching you in this video reminded me of an old song referring to mountains as “ladies in the sky”. I thought to myself there is Martijn with his ladies watching over him. The way you capture their beauty makes me believe this must be so…especially the one shot from above overlooking your building site. I am very impressed with your willingness to show your failed attempts with the bread and that you kept on trying. I always have to watch each video more than once…they inspire me to go out and capture more of all that is basic and beautiful in life wherever I can find it. I am anxious to see what you get from your little vegetable garden. Wouldn’t miss a one of your productions.

The framing for the tent is coming along really well! Amazing design! For the bread, number 3 looked great. To avoid the black bottom, think of the italian pizza oven method -- you want indirect heat, not direct heat right over the fire. Imagine a pizza dough or a calzone -- the heat is at the back of the oven and you place the pizza close to the fire and then rotate it. So for the stand that holds the pot, put it to the side of the flame and turn the pan a couple times during the cooking. Will be perfect!

Beautiful bread dough and you are not a novice. You could make yourself a welded metal trivet or use stones to elevate Dutch oven. Move Dutch oven out of the fire but place over hot coals. Add bread then add about 10 briquette around outer lip of the lid and a few in the center. See if that works for you. Always enjoy the aerial views. Deck is amazing can't wait for the tent.

You could transplant them into some containers (like what your catching the sawdust in) and will grow fine,.maybe even in the ground depending on soil depth & composition. I don't think the deer, rabbits and wolves will be too interested in them 😁 PS: Brilliant cinematography!

Wouldn’t be nearly the same if you weren’t sharing some humbling learning experiences with us. Granted, you already possess some impressive skill sets and experience, but you are dogged about getting it right and working your tail off, which makes us appreciate the fruits of your labor that much more. --------------- Thank-you for taking us along this incredibly beautiful and immersive filmmaking journey in Shangri-La🕊

I discovered your videos about 2 to 3 weeks ago and stared binged-watching them. Got hooked immediately. Being a filmmaker myself, I know everything must take twice as much time to do just by setting up your shots every time. But the results of your series is very inspiring on many levels. As I’m wondering what would be my next project, you nourish my creativity to try to surpass myself. Thanks! ✨🙏✨

Looking good. When making my bread, I do the second rise on parchment paper. Lift the whole paper into the Dutch oven. Helps keep it from burning. I also try to just use a bed of coals to bake over. More even temp than open flame. Can't wait until the next video.

I found your channel in August. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lukemia and was admitted to the hospital. Your videos are so beautifully done. They brought me a calm vibe and helped my 21 day stay (covid restrictions were tough). Thank you for what you have created and to continued success 🙌🏼

Great video, Martijn! A hint from a South African used to baking "potbrood" on the coals: make sure you have no flames from the fire any more, just coals.

Yes, I was going to tell him the same thing. The fire was too hot. However, putting coals on top was a good idea. Kudos to him for trying, though! The first loaf was beautiful. The last loaf looked perfect, except for the burnt part. I’m sure it was delicious! Anything you want to bake needs to be on, or around, coals, including pies, if you ever get that adventurous. Martijn, keep trying, because I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it. I absolutely love all your videos! I’ve been binge watching the last several days and I’m going to be sad, when I’ve caught up. Of course, I’ll be looking forward to the new ones!

For the second attempt at the bread🍞, raise the pan 1 inch, so it bakes without burning. But you have to put more stones around the fire so that the temperature is the same on all sides, thus forming an improvised oven. It will work out next time. kisses from Brazil🇧🇷

You’re a treasure. I am a landscaper so I love watching your videos. I love your natural stone approach (especially because it’s what you have available). Here in the big cities United States natural stone is very very expensive. I am about to get moving on the base rock layer of my multi level back yard walk way. Watching your videos helps me think less, not over think the process. And enjoy the process. Thank you
