You have perfectly captured the sound of wind overhead in the crowns of the trees while the air below is relatively still. It transports me to cool altitudes in the high country of southern Montana in the summer. Boy. Haven't spent a lot of time with those memories for a long while. Thanks.

I am not sure what will be left but when I can see it on the old air photo it keeps me searching. One old logging camp I had a hard time locating. Old roads came in and a grove of old Jack Pines were right where it should have been. I finally figured out that a dozer had been used to shave the ground and push everything into a nearby swamp.

Where you're at and what you're doing is so much more than what the videos show us. I nearly wish I could trade places with you, except I'd get lost. Oh my gosh, I do miss going out into the woods. I miss the woods like missing a friend. I do hope you see me commenting someday and saying that I've been out and about in the forest again. That would mean I'm feeling like my old self. Stay safe, and that saw will be really handy for you out there, but you already know that I'm sure. Have a good day! Take care :)

It is surprising. I have an old map that shows homestead sites but not ones put up after 1930. The later cabins are in what land was left which usually means swampier. The trick is to bushwhack and get into any island areas out in the swamps.

Nice little trim saw! Those are safer to use for brush because they are designed to be more balanced while using with one hand. Cheers from the lower 48...and thanks for the relaxing journey into the wood to find old homesteads!
@TheNorthwoodsman16 жыл бұрын
The saw does work well for that but it is not something I would ever show in a video. You really need to understand the kick-back risk with these top handle saws.

Congratulations on the saw. Glad to help :). I let the commercials run out on certain channels (yours being one of them) to ensure you get properly compensated. I would like to see that little saw in action. For instance what do you do with stumps? I am thinking more of choke cherry that are a nuisance and trip you up. As usual. I enjoyed this one!

Your cabin and life out there reminds me of one of my favorite books, Walden by Henry David Thoreau. I love being in the woods, the solitude. I get that from my grandpa. He used to spend hours in the woods by himself. He had spots he'd hike to just to sit and enjoy nature. If you went looking for him you'd find him sitting on a stump feeding a squirrel or some other animal he patiently befriended. Great video, as usual.
@TheNorthwoodsman16 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it will be a few weeks but a video is coming that your grandpa could have recorded. It will not appeal to everyone because I linger in some of my favorite places and just let the camera run.

Martin, I live in Washington state. Came off a ranch farm and I can relate to your enjoyment.Use to look at the old homesteads in our area and imagine the lives these people endured to exist and thrive or ..move on.100 years ago the flu epidemic and the US looking to Europe as the First World War was taking some of those young men into the services.So these homesteads were mostly logging based? A milk cow and some chickens and a garden type of existence?Whew! Or maybe wages and a country store?My imagination is pretty good also.Your narration is so enjoyable.. If you get a chance a story on the CCC and the the lumbering or ranching they did in the area.I am from 20 inches of rain in the precipitation . From the amount of water there I'd guess considerably more .That are had to be remote then.A little history of that are is always appreciated.Love the ingenuity and simple pleasure you exhibit.Very glad to see you in good health and " back to the front ol' top"I enjoy your every post and reading your followers comments.I got a kick out of the mystery good wife. The hand that gives you .. "Peach pie honey"Love subtle humor.
@TheNorthwoodsman16 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marc, I will add your suggestions to my list of future video topics. The area gets more rain than you but the clay soils add to the wetness. It really holds the water close to the surface. A lot of these homesteads were started in the dry times of the 1930's.

That is why it's so important that you pick a good Steward of the land.Have a great deal of confidence in your choice. How far is the old homestead away from the cabin?
