Jeff was my youngest brother who died nearly 20 years ago with lymphoma Cancer. As you can see from the video he had a great sense of humor. This video brought back great memories. Thank you for putting this on KZbin. Gary Brown. His best friend Gary Hawkinson was a good friend of our family and they are both missed.

@@TheNorthwoodsman1 Sorry you lost your long time friends.. Always remember the good times. Put boards with nails in front of door and windows, that will bite and maybe they won't come back...stronger window coverings too. There is lots of Elk, Deer, Black Bears in my area....

Martin you honor your long passed friends by sharing with us. You have continued to excel at keeping your strength and repairing the cabin that hosted so many memories. You seem to be the last man standing - a bittersweet time in life. If you have any of your original pack of cabin friends still living, perhaps they no longer wish to or are able to brave the wilderness, as you still have the strength and grit to do. You still amaze me what you accomplish. May your future days at the cabin be blessed ones.

Just think what we could have preserved if such items existed back in the 17, 18, & 19th centuries. I watched this video and tried to remember where I was during that time. I think back on my friends that have gone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing, you have a huge heart with a few pieces missing but huge all the same.

What a blast that was ! The look on your face was good too, when the fellas informed you of the bear's visit as you wheeled in on your bike. Wow. Thirty years ago this fall. It really is a shame that both the fellows have passed on, especially since they were young. Friendship is a wonderful thing, and we often take it for granted. How lucky indeed, that you have that footage to take you back to the memories that were created. Life is great, even with its' ups and downs. It was amazing to "meet" your friends through the magic of videotape that was preserved and converted to digital. Thanks for sharing those precious moments with your viewers. Great video, Martin. My question, only a matter of curiosity, is that 30 years ago, did you rent or own a local farm in the area, and is that how you were attracted to this cabin? In another video, made a year or two ago, you drove home, and your wife brought you a cuppa coffee, and it was many hours drive south where you now live. Did you and your wife and family live up in this area 30 years ago, as I think in this 1987 tape, or in the video, you mention that you only had to come just a few miles to the cabin, as you lived locally at that time? Once again, just idol curiosity, and I guess we have all aged a bit in the past 30 years. :)
@TheNorthwoodsman16 жыл бұрын
All the bits of info over the years cause some confusion. The timeline is that we purchased an old farmhouse in 1978 as a vacation spot. Out exploring in 1984 I came across the old cabin. In 2002 we sold the old farmhouse because I favored the cabin and we were not using the house as much as we once did. I have no family ties to the MN area.

I thought I had watched all of the videos, but clicked on the link at the end of your recent video. This reminds me of my best friend and I going to a similar cabin in Potosi, MO for a week at a time. We made several trips to that cabin, surrounded by 2700 acres of private land, all wooded. Logging trails, no cell phone distractions and great memories that only exist in our heads. I wish I had a place like that again to take my son, but it's hard to find in Indiana. Instead we have a cabin tent that sets up wherever we can find a sweet place to camp. Thanks for sparking great memories of my buddies from around the same time!

You know I started editing for that video thinking it was about a bear trashing the cabin. By the last edit it had become so much more. You have the right idea using that tent, the important think is to be out there with your son.

We did have some good times, at the factory, on the river tubing behind Jeff's big ski boat and at the cabin with the bear.

Glad you enjoyed it, the bear was supposed to be the star but by the time the editing was done he was third fiddle.

Sad to hear about your friends dying so young, but from being in the woods myself I've had several Friends that also died young, but we had some great times back then I wouldn't change a thing for the world, but I still wish they were here...!!!

And now you walk around the trails like no big deal. I would still be holding my gun. You are one of a kind. Love the videos

If a bear ever confronts me out on the trail I will go back to packing that 44 magnum but unless its near dark I have taken my chances and traveled light.
