Plus, I have to say - the set up for awkward 'going to the Prom' and teenage angst, and the whole getting dressed by Aunt May and going over his 'game plan'. Then the door opens and the tone totally switches from the setup of awkward prom hijinks to something completely different. That is just so good, one of my favourite parts of an MCU movie. Plus, Toomes isn't dumb in the movie, and they don't draw out the realisations.

This is my favourite MCU villain by far, it's not just 'who should Spider-Man fight in this movie?' it's totally integrated into the theme of the movie. Spider-Man accepting that being 'friendly neighbourhood' and looking after those close to him is as or more important than 'the big stuff'. He needed a villain who was really trying to do the same, looking after those close to him, and they did that. The blue collar worker being dumped on by all these people in the grand scale, and going down a bad path. Plus Michael Keaton. I'd listen to Michael Keaton sneer through the phone book. This is the first Spider-Man movie I've seen that I didn't just feel the weight of responsibility on a teenager and the conflict of his two lives, but I also felt the sheer joy of a teenager with 'omg, I'm Spider-Man'. The heart of Homecoming to me is Peter adjusting to coming back to NY after Civil War and finding his place in the world and realising that it's as important as the big things. I really love that Tony's message/lesson to Peter isn't the one that Peter learns in the end (even though Peter thinks that was the message). It feels true to Tony's character (narcissist, totally misses the small things) and who Spider-Man is and doesn't compromise either of their characters for the sake of plot.

It's funny to hear you say when he gets his Stark suit with all the tech it "doesn't work" but after watching how Spider-Man has played out through the years and culminating in No Way Home, it hits differently now. With NWH being his "origin story" we kind of get to see a super hero origin story in reverse. Spider-Man who was given all of these crazy tech but in the end, he's left with nothing and has to return to the basics. After all, he was just a kid with new spider powers, he has no spider sense so he has to rely on Stark tech. Honestly, NWH just gives me a new appreciation for the older movies. The trilogy has been one huge coming of age origin story of both Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

I think the whole lesson here is that peter need to believe in himself and stop relying on the tech Tony gave him. And this is the reason Tony seeing him as not ready to become an Avenger. In Civil war, because of Tony suit and how he can almost compete with the Avenger. Peter correlate that because of the suit, he is on Avenger level. In the beginning, he relies so much on the suit and the AI to figure out all the solution to his problem. He becomes more careless as in not exploring himself and his potential. I think this is why he doesn't rely on his spider's sense, but in stead on the technology, the AI. This is also the reason why he think he can take on greater challenges while he is not ready yet. And because he believe in the suit, the AI so much instead of himself, he eventually said "I'm nothing without the suit." and Tony can clearly see this thinking in Peter after the two times that Tony has to save peter and the line of "I'm nothing without the suit." Tony want Peter to believe in himself not become the slave to the technology that was granted to him. This is somewhat of a theme in marvel movie. Who are you underneath the mask? In Thor 3, are you the god of hammer? In Civil war, Captain, without a second thought, drop the shield. Prove that he is not Captain America because of the shield. He is Cap because he is Steve Roger. In Guardian of the Galaxy 2, Star Lord was on a quest of self discover and he found out about his dad and all this godly power that his dad gave him. He got so blinded that he kinda turned his back on his team, and think that the semi-god is who he really is. But eventually, he realized all of that was just an illusion, and he started to believe in himself and gave up on the god power. In Iron Man 3, I know it's not the best out there, but Tony explored this same idea. You see him mostly without the suit in the movie, and at the end of the movie he destroyed all his suits, remove the arc reactor. He doesn't need those thing. He is Iron Man because he is Tony Stark. This is also why Tony can see this lack of self-belief in Peter because Tony experienced it himself.

My biggest problem with Spider-Man in MCU is making him a high schooler again. In the original Marvel comics run his time in high school lasted less than 30 issues. Parker supposed to be a 20/30-something, constantly dealing with failures due to trying to balance his personal life and his superhero activity (something something sequel credits problem). But we always end up with these reboots going backward instead of exploring what an adult, scientist / photographer / hero who hides his true self from even his friends/ closest allies. (Almost) Nobody should know who he is, and that should cause interesting problems. And his suit getting built by Stark massively annoyed me. Peter is supposed to struggle to pay both his rent and the chemicals for webbing. Instead he gets everything handed to him. And as David said, no Spider-sense at all in this film. They're ok films for what they are, but never strike me as great adaptations. I also think the villains don't get the respect they deserve in this (namely Shocker). If we ever see the Sinister Six in the MCU there's likely going to be a big change given what we've seen happen to 2 usual members so far.

So far we’ve had two series of movies where Spiderman has been an older character, at least the actor was older, this movie makes a young Spiderman, we haven’t seen that in live-action action before
@anamtuirseach
@anamtuirseach 4 жыл бұрын
@@voltspc9394 Sure, Holland is a young actor (20 when Homecoming was filmed) playing a 15 year old Peter Parker. Garfield was 27 playing 17, Maguire was 26 also playing 17. My issue is that the bulk of Spider-Man's stories, his greatest hits, are of him as an adult, while the movies we've seen keep starting as a kid. As I said, these movies are fine, but they aren't what I'd most want to see from a Spider-Man film. Honestly, with Disney's production budget, a Spider-Man series in the vein of Netflix's Daredevil could be great if they had the right writers. Effects budget would be expensive though.
@voltspc9394
@voltspc9394 4 жыл бұрын
anamtuirseach it’s easier to have an origin story with a younger kid, especially in the MCU where they can use Iron Man as his mentor, plus having a younger person add diversity to the avengers, so they’re not all middle-aged dudes
@anamtuirseach
@anamtuirseach 4 жыл бұрын
@@voltspc9394 We had 5 Spider-Man films before Holland, 2 of which did the origin story. For characters like Spider-Man, where the origin is so well-known to much of the viewing public from comics and cartoons, can we please just stop doing origin stories? I swear if Disney does an origin for the Fantastic Four a third time I'm gonna lose it. Origins are important, but they're just the starting point for much richer stories. We don't need to reintroduce the audience to these characters from square one every time they want to reboot a franchise. As for age issues on Avengers roster, just make a Young Avengers film or series. Because most Avengers rosters don't feature kids, they're Marvel heroes in their prime. Now the X-Men on the other hand have kids all over the place, which for some reason the movies have mostly avoided using.

@@SpaceStrike The hobbit is related in some ways, but the movies aren't anywhere near as good. The Hobbit also isn't really important to the LotR story, because it's not like a direct prequel story. It's a separate story, with some of the same characters etc. I'd say just watch LotR trilogy. Most of it is explained in the movies, you won't be missing any info that's very important. I personally love the extended editions, but they may not be the best way to go for a first watch, since they add stuff that's not really plot important, and makes them very long (extended 3rd movie is over 4hrs lol). But yeah, if you're interested in them, just watch the LotR trilogy regular cut. Hobbit isn't terrible, but really drawn out with added stuff because they wanted to make a single book into a trilogy for some reason. Watch Hobbit after, if you're interested, but keep your expectations lower for that. The LotR movies really give you all the info you need. Man now I want to watch them again haha. I'm super excited for you if you watch them. I wish I could watch them for the first time again haha. Milan I have one question for you, did you watch avengers: endgame, if not, that’s why you’re confused

@@voltspc9394 yes (I watched almost every MCU movie) but this one in particular was just bad the script was bad, the movie was totally predictable (they didn't even trie to hide Misterio was the bad guy), the science and technology didn't make any sens and if you're older than 13 you should be able to tell that this it's just a bad written movie

@@milan3602 well I'm just gonna say, none of these movies are made by or made for geniuses. They are just stupid fun movies for people to enjoy and honestly pretty much anything is really plausible in these movies because they allways do shit that is litterally impossible 24/7. Otherwise I dont think they intended to hide mysterio at all really, especially to comic book fans, but I think they did him good cause the best stories are where you get both perspectives of both the hero and the villan. I mean he wasn't all that original in his own plot kinda being another syndrome, but he was entertaining and served as a good villan to really mess up spiderman

It's a bit annoying when Riley talks about what Spiderman should be despite not consuming any of the source material.
