The problem with Dark Fate is that it *wants* to be something new and exciting, but hits all the familiar beats of the previous Terminator films. The only new things in Dark Fate were the Rev 9 and Grace, but Grace was not directed well enough to be memorable. The Rev 9 is the real star of the show here, but they shoukd have taken more liberties with how it acted. This Terminator was almost human in its understanding of people, psychology and manipulation. The scenes where it manipulates people is where it is most chilling. They should have shown the Rev 9 being more intelligent than humans, because whats scarier than something stronger, faster and more durable than you? Something that is also way smarter. If the movie led us to believe that the hydroelectric dam was going to be the place it ended, maybe had Sarah be injured but still kicking. Had the Rev 9 come out and negotiate like it did before and then REFUSE to fight them on their terms would have been a shock. It woukd have shown the machine was being tactical, that its chances of success were far higher via ambush instead of a head on fight. "Your friend's (Sarah) injuries will slow you down. Your protector's quickly running out of drugs. I can afford to wait..." Cue the sounds of explosions as we learn that the Rev 9's endoskeleton has been setting up explosives in the Dam this entire time and getting to a safe distance while the Sheath keeps them distracted. The sheath smiles, eerily and says "I can survive being buried under rubble. Can you?" Cue last desperate rush to escape the hydroelectric dam and destroying the sheath in the process before getting attacked by the endoskeleton the moment they get to saftey.

The REV-9 was the best thing about Dark Fate. I am a HUGE fan of The Terminator franchise, so of course I have a lot of the same criticisms of the movie that you all probably have... But I can say without hesitation that they did a pretty decent job with their villain. Between designing this villain to be familiar but distinct and setting it apart from a Skynet unit (as much as I don't like the change to Legion), and Gabriel Luna giving a solid performance for what was written, I can honestly say that the REV-9 is what keeps the whole thing relatively watchable.
The Rev 9 almost combines a lot of the elements of the T-800 & the T-1000. Obviously with a more flexible endoskeleton and being able to more easily replicate human mannerisms 🤔😅

The 1st T-800 was foiled for days by a scrawny guy who even blew it in half as his final hail mary. The T-1000 was also foiled for days by a 2nd T-800 and a badass but otherwise normal woman. The Rev-9 was foiled for days by a T-800, the same woman but older and wiser, as well as Grace who was specifically modified to fight it in short bursts. I like how you COMPLETELY ignored the former 2. Terminator's ENTIRE premise is nigh-unstoppable killer robots being foiled by inferior foes till a way is found to beat them. Dark Fate is no different from the 1st 2 films or the ones between them and it.

Rev-9 is also similar to the t-x both are terminators who use liquid metal to sheath their endoskeletons. Except the t-x cannot split into separate units while the rev-9 lacks the former's built-in weaponry. Also the t-x's shape shifting abilities like the t-1000's as mentioned in the video are not as refined as rev-9's. In the end, escalation wasn't the problem of the Terminator movies, a better killer robot is always better, but the premise itself, time travel, the writers have trap themselves in a rabbit hole with this one, because there is so many stories that you can tell with time travel stories without repeating the same stories, The Matrix already have a setting, two separated worlds, the XX/XXI century simulation and the barren wasteland of the real world, there is endless possibilities for stories, because not matter how much they try, the humans always would be underdogs, and so many centuries has pass since the apocalypse, that there would be no way to fix the world, defeat the machines and liberate the rest of humanity, not matter how much they try to.

Other than the fact that they kill off John Conner at the beginning I liked the movie. I do think they should have used an end-of-credit scene to show Dani and Sarah sending back a T-800 to save John. They could have had Carl right before he's destroyed tell Sarah a date and time and the viewers would see in the end of credit scene that it was the date and time he killed John so that they can go back and save him and the scene ends with the viewers seeing the timeline shift and end with John and Dani standing side by side leading the rebellion.

Though this model of terminators likely was just one of a kind, as something this advanced likely would not be capable of being mass-produced similar to the T-X both being specialized role models. Something as advanced as Rev 9 would be way too much of an undertaking to waste already spent resources in the future while Legion is still fighting against the resistance. So if the movie makers want to make more they need to keep back on throwing too many "Special snowflake" terminators in the spotlight. Skynet itself knew that it could not just make T-Xs all the time as that would cost too much. That's why it started with the cheaper and less complex models. Anyone waging war on 2 fronts (that being in the future and in the past) would be far smarter to use cheaper models to keep up with the resource race.
