We just don't go out anymore. I am soooo tired of having to be careful out there. I just love to cook everything myself. I prep for other people too! They love my cooking and pay me to help cook for them. If we go out somewhere, we also take our own foods. LOL! People look but we don't care. Thank you for this lecture.

when someone makes you food from a restaurant to a fast food, they want profit, they can care less about you. That's why your doing the right thing, it sucks not to be out, maybe just order a tea, something you know is ok.

I eat out so infrequently, that I don't make any fuss at the restaurant and just "gamble" on the best combos I can get from the menu. It's just a tiny portion of my annual caloric intake. Power be with those who have the patience to order this way and especially to the waitstaff and chefs/cooks who happily comply. Thanks for that. The times are a changin'!

I was a sous chef and I can tell you don't worry about asking just know that it will take more time especially if you go out to eat during prime times. It's your body the food is going in so you have every right to be picky about that.

It's so true. I have my favorite restaurants that I go to, and I took the time to explain to them my special needs. Now, I get exactly what I need, and they know me by name: it feels like family.

If anyone needs tips on options at Indian restaurants I can help! They aren't perfect but if you need an option in a pinch, these will do. * Idli with tomato or mint chutney. The chutneys may have a tiny bit of oil but it's a small amount for a big batch of chutney. * Idli with samar. Sambar will also likely have a small amount of oil for a large batch. * dal. Ask for no ghee and no extra oil on top. Like most other things, they temper the food with oil but it's likely a small amount for a huge batch. * chana Masala. Same as mentioned above in dal dish.

The comments here just prove that people like to hear good things about their bad behavior. My husband and I have been WFPB for two years. We don’t eat boring food. No oils. Potatoes are not bad for diabetics. My husband had metabolic syndrome, but off all his meds now.

I'm hoping I can get my friend to make a switch. I just started the McDougal 7 day challenge. (I just started yesterday) But my friend who is type 2 diabetic thinks she can't eat a lot of carbs because "carbs turn to sugar". However, she plans on eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast and she guzzles down HIGHLY sugary drinks. Not pop type drinks but stuff like orange juice and those other fruit juices they claim are healthy. She offered me one and once I looked at how much sugar it had, I refused to drink it. I felt a bit rude doing that but there was something like 70g of sugar!! I love my friend but I wasn't about to put that in my body.

@@fifteenbyfive Not how I expected. I didn't gain weight but I didn't lose any either. But I ate almost 100% rice so I will do it again but with more vegetables. I also want to have potatoes and pasta too. I think a pasta salad would be very tasty.

@@suicune2001 Wasn't the main point of the challenge to see how easy it was and whether or not you'd stick with it? I agree. Loaded baked potatoes are yummy and healthy. Easy to prepare too. I like adding other cooked veggies to top it with. Potatoes are so versatile. I love dishes with pasta (or rice) and veggies together. Good luck to you!

@@fifteenbyfive Yeah but it was a very sudden decision so I didn't have anything planned. I ate rice, spinach, tomatoes, salsa, and corn tortillas for 3 days straight. Lol. Oddly enough, I didn't get tired of that. I can see me doing this long term. I just need to do proper planning. I already put together a nice list of fat free recipes I look forward to trying.

Good tips if you eat out often but for my wife and I, we don't worry about it at all. If something has oil in it or has some hidden other something that the waitstaff doesn't know has an animal product listed as the 14th ingredient that stinks for us but we don't concern ourselves with it. At least 95% or more of our calories come from home and we control that very tightly so we don't have to worry about it when we happen to eat out at a restaurant. Asking for without oils is about as far as we go beyond our normal no meat, no cheese, no eggs, etc.

Yeah, when eating out, there’s really no way to be 100% certain it’s totally vegan, much less low/no oil salt. We eat out maybe once a month. I order vegan, but don’t ask for no oil. I consider it a “wicked” indulgence, like an occasional junk food treat.

I think the best thing to do is keep some ready to microwave home cooked meals in the freezer. I batch cook pasta, rice portion and freeze. I also keep soup, curries, chili, etc portioned and frozen. A couple of bags of frozen veggies and there is an easy meal. When I'm out I will get a baked potato and not eat the skin (due to oil), a tossed salad, etc. If I'm with a group I will pack my own food and just pay a plating charge and tip.

Indian food has a ton of hidden oil. In fact the start of many Indian dishes is melting the onions in oil. Then more oil is added at various points in the cooking to include the final tardka or spice in oil garnish. I know because I lived in India for several years. PCRM has some oil free Indian recipes because they launched their kick-start in India. Idlis are a steamed breakfast food but the condiments served with it may have oil. Sambar has minimal oil. Everything else is loaded with oil.

I eat out so infrequently, that if I'm at an Italian restaurant I'll go ahead and have the olive oil marinara. As long as it's vegan, I'm good with that. I do ask that they use a very light coating of the sauce, and give me a double portion of the pasta. I figure that I'm getting about a teaspoon of oil on my plate, so not a big deal for once or twice a year.

I'd love a consultation! I've finished 7 months of a lifestyle program...lost 70lbs.... but it was very calorie restricted....so scared of eating this way.... but in my research for health, I'm convicted that this lifestyle is best for health. I've read "Eat to Live" and am listening to "Starch Solution".... I've been eating WFPB for about 2 weeks and am terrified to weigh myself because I'm certain I've gained some weight... would a consultation be possible? I have so many questions.....

Remember that the number on the bathroom scale doesn't really reflect your body composition. Assuming you're a woman, you could weigh 160-170 lbs and have 15% body fat if you're extremely muscular, or weigh 110-120 and be at 25% body fat and look healthy-slim, but not muscular. It varies. Don't be afraid of gaining fat mass if you're eating a low fat diet. Remember that the body wants to use carbohydrates as fuel, and fat as storage. Just eat a whole food, high carbohydrate and low fat diet so your body won't have much fat to store in the first place. Also the fiber in whole foods slows down the absorption of energy from them (carbs and fat) and helps regulate your blood sugar levels. Don't lose hope, and remember that true fat loss is something that happens over time. You can either have quick results, or slow and steady but sustainable results. I don't know exactly what type of nutrition you were following before starting WFPB so I can't say much about that, except that calorie restriction is difficult and not a good way to achieve lasting results, because it goes against your satiety mechanism. You're supposed to eat when you're hungry, and if you deny yourself that it becomes an exercise in supreme willpower, which is difficult to follow and achieve. A good lecture by Dr. Doug Lisle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnLHon94a8eHq7M Good luck, and make sure to get enough dietary fiber :)

@@ZenKloom thank you. I'm still reading and researching. Do you think those BMI scales are accurate?
@ZenKloom
@ZenKloom 4 жыл бұрын
@@heidiminett8868 You mean like bathroom scales that show your BMI? I haven't heard of those, so I don't know. But if you mean the BMI scale itself, it's good enough for the average person. It only starts to become problematic when you're carrying a lot of muscle mass, because it doesn't differentiate between lean mass and fat mass. So you could be at a low body fat percentage but have a lot of muscle mass, and your BMI would be really high, but you wouldn't actually be overweight or obese. Ultimately your body composition is what matters, fat vs lean mass.

@@ZenKloom thank you for the encouragement. I took the leap this morning and weighed myself. I've lost 7 lbs since starting this journey 3 weeks ago! I'm thrilled with that!...... but really want to know what effect it has had on my BP. I have a family of 10.... so making this change has been a big change for some of them. I'm doing completely no oil for me. And the rest get it only in the form of what is in bread or tortilla chips..... and not every day. They are being really great about it. Sugar is gone....but salt is still lingering a bit...😂

If you tell them that you are allergic to dairy and oil they will be more careful and often more easily accommodating. If you think about people who are allergic have a negative response to certain foods and eating those things also have a negative effect on all bodies. I’m not downplaying or minimizing allergies, but if a restaurant can accommodate for any reason they should.

If nearly all populations ate mostly plants and starches with the occasional meat dish, what is wrong with modern day humans having chicken at a restaurant every now and then? This eating-out rigmarole in the video is going to be nightmarish for a lot of people. John and Mary McDougall’s careers are all about the McDougall program so of course they’ll find it easier than most people. I think I’ll give this one a hard pass.

I follow McDougall program probably 95% of the time. Stopped my constipation, catarrh, and delayed onset muscle soreness issues. I have similar frame to John and Mary. I've run over 40 marathons with it, and regularly out run much 'beefier' looking guys and gals, I've been told. So there's something to be said for behind slim here, as long as one isn't anorexic (and I've seen true anorexics, I work in the medical field). You can be heavy set on the McDougall program if you like - you just have to increase the legume, nut and seed, and dried fruit input, as well as possibly weight lift, if that's your thing. Some McDougallers have done that.
