No one can truly be happy being overweight & having fat in places that make it difficult to move, breathe, sleep, or live! Fat is the word! It is a serious problem and the chemicals in our food don't help the food addiction problem. I love this man! He is honest and passionate about educating the masses! Thank you Chef AJ! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥰🥰🥰🥰

@TheThundercat718 I had a total of 135 lbs to lose, so I was very out of shape. I still have 95 lbs to reach my goal. I started walking 5 minutes a day, and now I'm up to one hour. I eat fruit and spinach smoothies with a little oatmeal and sometimes peanut butter for breakfast and sometimes lunch, too. I eat a giant salad for dinner. I started incorporating noodles, rice, and bread over the last month. I've only lost 10 lbs since doing that but i was getting bored with my food choices. I'm now starting to go to the gym 30 minutes 3 times a week to get stronger. I'm hoping this all sticks as a new healthy lifestyle.

I found Dr. McDougall randomly. I was eating potatoes every night and really enjoying it, not gaining weight (in maintenance 3 years). I began researching veg diets and found him. I remember thinking, “Wow there’s actually an eating plan for potatoes?! I’m in.” ❤️❤️

White rice has a healthy omega 6 to omega 3 ratio while brown rice does not have a healthy ratio. Beans and potatoes have a good ratio but many nuts and seeds other than walnuts and flaxseed have an unhealthy ratio. This is where McDougall shines over Fuhrman. Fuhrman shines over McDougall by stressing the cancer healing advantages of foods such as berries, greens, broccoli, mushrooms, celery, and carrots.

Dr McDoughall brings up a good point. There is a good diet for every animal. Imagine taking a diet that is meant for dolphins and feeding it to insects? We wouldn’t dream of feeding our beloved pets candy bars, caramels, cookies, oil and butter, but many don’t think twice about consuming this for ourselves. I didn’t recognize the connection between food and health for many years. Most people I talk with don’t either and say it’s all genetics. They would rather take medication than change their food intake.

What a great discussion! I never get tired of listening to this man. I would really love an episode that is centred around bread and bread-like foods such as Injera, etc. I always wonder if bread has gotten the same kind of bad press as potatoes and that it depends on how the bread is made and consumed...

real bread, real potatoes at themselves are not unhealthy... it is what we do with them. go to a whole foods store and get the most "whole grain" version of bread. Eat it with natural foods... plants, not too much fat, but also not too little fat! I think "as low fat as possible" is dangerous... but i am all on board for plant based eating!

I didn’t find this convincing. Yes, it seems obvious that humans historically ate starch, and even more obvious we historically ate meat. We were driven by the need to survive, not ideology. Why deny that and pretend that a healthy diet omits the meat? Having said that, congratulations to the people who have lost weight on the starch diet. Excluding the processed foods of the modern world is the single best thing we can do for our health.

I had gastroparesis almost all my life. Only times I did not was when I was eating only plants or when I at least as thoroughly as possible separated all animal products from all high starch and/or sweet foods. Fit for Life advice helped me go from taking 16 HCI tablets and barely feeling a burn to not needing any and digesting just fine. It also helped me to realize that it is so much easier to eat just plant-based. When I did that, I had regular bathroom times. I had met people who would say things to me like "I do want to go on a walk with you but let's do it after 9 a.m. because that's when I'll need to use the restroom." and I was so weirded out. Well, just eating plant-based foods or even mostly eating only that, I was one of those people! And, there was no pain or shame in the process!

I respect most of what he’s saying, but at one point he makes it clear that if you drastically overeat carbohydrates/sugar, your body will burn the extra calories by increasing your basal metabolism (around 34:00) and you will have a really hard time ever gaining weight. Later in the lecture he says that drinking fruit juice or eating dried fruits is bad because “calories count” and it’s one of the things that “fat vegans” fall victim to, as it will make you gain weight (1:14:30). Make it make sense.

Surgical menopause from uterine cancer I had for longer than known. Congenital hypothyroid, hashimotos, Mononucleosis, insomnia, pre- diabetes, autoimmune issues, excema on finger tips. I've tried raw vegan, it helps, except winter is too hard, I love having hot satisfying food when its cold out. Raw only isn't sustainable for me. Evolution...is a theory!!! And only a theory! I went vegan a week ago. I've gained 4lbs in that week. All I eat for breakfast is Oat groats and fruit with Oat milk. Dinner I eat a starch like potatoes or beans or rice with veggies. I do not cheat. I do not eat nuts or avacados .. I don't understand why I'm not losing weight or at least maintaining my weight I was at. This is why I went back to eating meat the first time I tried going vegan...I do not want to be fat. Sigh.. I'm wondering if it's because all I ate prior to this was meat and veggies.. and I only ate dinner then. I heard something about people gaining if they were on a low carb diet.. I'm diabetic too though so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It's so frustrating.

@weevil8025 Жыл бұрын
Too many calories. Measure your food properly. Oats are pretty dense in calories, oat milk can be too. Beans and rice can add up in calories pretty quickly. You really have to measure them properly. Also, it's a week, that's not enough time to lose weight. You're eating carb rich foods, which will cause you to have more water retention. This isn't weight, but it will show as weight gain on your scales. Once you start eating more carbs, you will naturally put on water weight more easily. I recommend weighing yourself after waking up, same time every day, when your body hasn't eaten or drank for at least 7 hours. Don't eat or drink before weighing yourself. This will give the most accurate results. If you're a woman, your menstrual cycle will affect your weight too. You will gain weight and lose it throughout your cycle. When I started WFPB, it took me ten days to notice any actual weight loss. You need to give it more time, a week is not long enough, putting on 4lbs is not a concern if you are truly in a calorie deficit. It will be a fluctuation or muscle gain. The general rule for any diet, including this one, is to give it at least 4 weeks of consistent weigh ins before you decide it isn't working. Human body takes a while to adapt to new diets. As for diabetes, I am not experienced in this, but you should find a good plant based nutritionist or doctor to give you advice on this. As far as I'm aware, wholefood carbs are generally safe for diabetics but you may have to reduce your fruit intake. Again, not experienced in diabetes, you should definitely see a doctor before you make any dietary changes. Your doctor will be able to give you more personalized advice for your specific body.

Amazing! How did humans survive until the development of agriculture, thankfully we can do that now by eating starch! I shudder to think of the tens of thousands of years that people had to struggle to survive before this guy came along to show the way! I do have a question though, how is it that diabetes, obesity and heart disease were so rare a hundred years ago and now our only hope is to eat potatoes and rice? Yeah, great grandmother ate potatoes, but she ate lots of other things like steak and chicken and ham and bacon and butter, but she was muscular and thin and died at 102?

I love the Adventist hospitals. Unfortunately, they've changed over the years so those packets of seasoning were not SDA recommended and that's due to a mixture of doctors in their hospitals who do not follow the book. One thing I can say about them (religious & diet wise), they follow the Book - well....some of them do. As a group they've always been named the "People of the Book." I have learned a lot from them and that's where my journey began. Glorifying God in our body also means feeding our temple as He prescribed. I love it! We Christians are so fat & sick today because we believe we can eat outside of God's word with no consequences. It ain't working!

On the old website there was a free programm that you could click through to get the info, to get you started. I had a look at the current website and it doesn't seem to be there anymore, unfortunatey. But still, all the info is there, just have a good look at all the articles, etc. :)

Dr McDougal you are amazing! The misinformation in diet culture is terrifying! I have been led my whole life to believe carbs are “bad” and the reason for weight gain. Yet any form of potato is my favorite food! I’ve always used potatoes as my “cheat” meal. Thank you for spreading this information to the world 🌍 you are loved and appreciated more than you know 🤍🤍🤍

I have found the only way to keep the weight off long term is to eat a high-carb diet. Any time I try to eat something like nuts, I am left feeling hungry because I've taken away alot of my calorie budget for the day (1500 calories), and I'd rather be eating things like fruit, chia seeds, etc., all of which have alot less caloric density. You have to really watch nuts and oils because they contribute very little to a feeling of satiety but they pack alot of calories. When I was a kid, nuts were rare and we really only ate them at holidays. Now many people are eating nuts as a "superfood".

I am pre-diabetic and my physician told me to cut back on starch and eat more protein. That is all fair and dandy but tofu and tempeh are higher fat foods (and they are processed foods), so I am not really sure what to do. Anyone out there who is in the same predicament?
